Syndicate hype thread - hype met (A)! / GS review: 7.5/10

I've been stoked about Syndicate back when it was first announced and my feelings and enthusiasm were prolonged by good initial trailer and clips demonstrating various gameplay elements and equipment. The demo however gave such a mixed and misleading experience, because previous trailers had been showing it in more Deus Ex vein, and they looked, if not spectacular, then at least very interesting. And now NO ONE seems to even bother about this title anymore. Which is a goddamn shame, as I love Starbreeze Studios...Do you think the demo put off anyone potentially interested in the game while, arguably, gaining no new audience?? I personally think this game is going to score around 75-80 on Metacritic and 7.5 here, though at its worst I'm imagining 6.5. The worst thing I don't know what's the single player experience is like...I think it was a bad idea to release a co-op only demo (of course you can play alone too, but that's not what I mean)...

Anyway, for those who care, Rosario Dawson and Michael Wincott (Top Dollar from Crow, Elgyn from Alien: Resurrection, etc.), among others, are the lead voice actors.

So, do you care or don't care about Syndicate and why? And what lasting impression has the demo made on you? Do you still feel that there's some hope for this one???

It became a casual FPS.

Don't know why but everyone seems kind of meh about this game. Like they hear about it and it leaves their mind as soon as it leaves the screen. I think it's partially because Syndicate wasn't very popular, and because it is turned into an FPS. I can't remember them stating or showing something special about the game. We have plenty of FPS's that are average.

I hope this turns out to be a surprise hit. I'm still waiting for some reviews though, I'm not fully convinced yet.

Demo was basically Magic L2 Button: The Game (was it even L2? I already forgot). Game came across as streamlined to the point it felt dumb.

Personally I think it's the best gameplay mechanic I have seen, but it needs changes.

L2 actions should be instant, why should I wait to fully heal my friend? Waiting in games is not fun and I think it's not fair that enemies can shoot me while I heal my ally from far away.

L2 SHOULD auto refill your ammo, this isn't the 1980s anymore, searching for ammo is out of date and takes away from the pacing.

L2 should auto heal yourself, while I think regenerating health is a must this could take HP regeneration to another level.

I think Syndicate might be the best original IP of this year, but without these changes the game might be too hard and will lose some points because of that.

The game looks terrible, and that's why I personally don't care.

From the trailers and gameplay it looks like it has several good ideas, but overall it looks very bland. I love that it has four player co-op, but I don't think that would be enough to make me go out and purchase it day one if it doesn't captivates me. Solid 7.0 - 7.5or A. If the game scores higher than I'll be happy to know that I can play a good co-op game with my friends.

Yeah man all FPS games are casual, nothing easier than BF2 PR or Quake.

I've grown tired of FPS games and Syndicate has done nothing to get me excited at all. It looks very average and it is just another blot of grey in the already grey canvas of the FPS genre. I want more variety. So what? You play as some hero who has to stop bad guys who look the same. Nothing special here. And the level design looks bland. I know it is unfair to play a game that is not out yet, but those are my impressions. Pretty much the only FPS games I have been looking forward to this years are Bioshock Infinite and Halo 4.

Solid 8.0, looks like a great shooter.

I'm guessing it will get 8.0. It will be a standard shooter with a few novel ideas while trying to get the depth of Deus Ex (but not quite pulling it off).

Then all we need is some indy-developer to make a "sequel" (i.e. something that looks similar, but isn't :P ) to the original syndicate and it's all good.

I think itll be in the 7. range, it looks so underwhelming that it is staggering, the demo was decent, but nothing unique or different.

To make it worse, Im one of those who loved the first Syndicates, and this entry into the series does nothing to make me love or care about it at all.

On the other hand, everhtying works in the game, it has decent production values (altho appearence means absolutely 0 if the gameplay is bland).

Ther are some good ideas, but I will hold by breath and read about its reception.

The demo was good albeit rough around the edges. I'm more interested in the single player campaign and how that turns out.

It's a generic shooter why should we care? Twelve year olds might I don't. I haven't bought a FPS in 2 years.

Um...it's made by Starbreeze? I thought you people loved Starbreeze.

The co-op demo was pretty underwhelming. I still have faith in Starbreeze since they developed two masterpieces (Riddick and The Darkness), but I don't think Syndicate will come close to that level of quality.
