Could be playing the other versions to make sure they aren't jacked
Which is good, because I'd like to know what's up with the PC version.
Thanks for the heads-up.Yo, Giant Bomb is livestreaming in 5 minutes.

Talk about a mixed bucket of reviews damn!
5/5 from giantbomb, then C+ from 1up.
The videos ive seen looked MEH, but I think ill give it a try sometime. Still I cant hope but shake my head at one of my fav series turning into a FPS o_0
I will say this though.. I give all game sa shto so I will try this and see how it is, teh coop does sound interesting.
[QUOTE="Miroku32"]After they changed the original gameplay to another FPS this game dropped immediately from my Want List. Way to go EA, you killed Bullfrog and now you killed Syndicate just like Command Conquer with Tiberium Dawn. LostProphetFLCL

Would you like it if they took your fav series and turned it into a generic FPS?
Imagine if they took Shenmue and make it into a FPS? Shenmue fans would not be happy!
Ill give it a try, but when you take one of hte greatest videogaem series ever and turn it into a FPS thats gonna upset alot of people.
Why does every game gotta be a shooter these days?
Why does every game gotta be a shooter these days?

Because that's what sells, so that's what will make publishers listen to you.
Anyway, this game looks pretty awesome for a linear shooter, and I for one am still ready to enjoy that.

Starbreeze are the people behind the project and they make some awesome FPS so don't dismiss the game just yet.
It is sad that they did change the design quite a bit but I think the FPS idea still works and you can maybe think of this as a spinoff. Pick your poison, an incredibly bad sequel that stays true to the design (a TBS) or a spinoff game that changes the design quite a lot (a FPS).
well after actually playing it i must say the coop is awesome , i think i might get addicted just like i was on resistance 2s coop , didnt try the single player yet but i mainly got it for coop anyways so ill like the game regardless how it turns out , if you like coop fps and are tired of the same old ww2 and modern warfar (in general not only cod) games it sure is a great alternative , since the demo is free you can even try it before purchase
Joystiq gave it 4/5 (technically 8/10 since they use half stars)
http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/21/syndicate-review/
The original was a beautiful and brutal affair, set in a cyberpunk world filled with corporate conspiracy. In its reboot, developer Starbreeze manages to hold onto some of those elements that made the original such an intriguing beast.Syndicateshowcases its own beautiful brutality, shaking off the label of "just another shooter."[...]
Syndicate's story is all but standard for games revolving around the familiar dystopian theme.Syndicate's faults don't lie in a worn-out premise, however, but rather in its execution. Twists and turns in the narrative have the subtlety of a freight train.Syndicatedoes a great job of introducing so much promise, but doesn't do a lot to differentiate itself from other stories based on similar ideals. The ending is also rather abrupt, wrapping up so neatly and quickly that you're left wondering if something more interesting was left out.Purely from a narrative perspective, the game is disappointing.
What's not disappointing is actually playing insideSyndicate's wondrous, kinetic world. It's a matter of personal taste, but developer Starbreeze has a solid track record in my book. Here the developer's sense of styIe and devastation translate into yet another gritty, beautiful thriller. The guns handle extremely well and offer interesting secondary functions. Kilo can run and slide into enemies, knocking them back, and even land gruesome melee executions -- an element Starbreeze fans have probably come to expect. There's also a cover system similar to recent FPS titles, but I rarely ever felt compelled to use it.[...]
Starbreeze may have opted to go the route of this generation's most profitable genre for itsSyndicatereboot, but the soul of the series has survived. Its well worn narrative trappings hold your attention for the most part, but the real treat is in the execution ofSyndicate's gameplay.Syndicatemanages to mesh the spirit of the old with the styIe of the new. It's not the return some fans would have hoped for, but it expands the franchise into new territory where business is booming.Xav de Matos

Pretty good score all things considered.

Yep. A weak story isn't that big of a deal when it's co-op focused IMHO.

As long as it's not like Brink's campaign which was, imo, just AWFUL and should NOT have been in the game at all. I can understand putting it in there to add on some hours to your play but for crying out loud, when your campaign is that bad you should really look towards TF2's idea of a heavy multiplayer only game because your single player just absolutly SUCKS and detracts quite a lot of points from the game.

Is the co-op actually really replayable? Like I know it's impossible to be L4D2 level but is it more than most?

the horribly laggy MP was what killed Brink for me, if that weren't such an issue I think it would have been a lot better, I thought the few times rounds went smooth without a hitch were quite fun, but those moments became few and far between[QUOTE="Goyoshi12"][QUOTE="OB-47"]

Still, I found multiplayer to be fun for like...maybe a day or two before it got a little tiresome. Even the appeal of unlocking everything in the game sounds more like a chore than actual progression.

Maybe not L4D level but it is damn good and very fun. Nice change of pace for the FPS genre.
Teamwork is VERY necessary and you need to think about how you approach things.

Yeah I tried the demo it really has potential from what I've played. Are they any stealthy ways to play in any of the co-op missions?

First off, this is not a generic FPS. I know people here seem to have a hard on for hating on anything FPS, but this so happens to be one of those shooters that does something DIFFERENT.
Secondly, I would be damn happy to see certain franchises get SOME attention because maybe then they could be revived. Just look at Kid Icarus for example. Pit gets in SSB and now his series is being revived due to interest.
I am just so sick of this stupid, entitled whining from the gaming community. You can't ******* win with them. Try something different with a property and people *****, but then by God there is incessant whining about games being too similar to their predecessors.
Seriously, people need to shut up and just enjoy this quality game and be damn happy your forgotten franchise is getting some love.
well it seems most reviews say weak sp but everyhthing els is great which doesint shock me since me and my friend had a great time with the co-op. Ill proboly get when price drops.
... and I didn't just guess the hype, I guess the score as well ;) High-five, Talking-Headsian fella :)!Correctly guess hype, I'm a boss.

No, stealth is not an option. One of the areas where they can improve for a sequel I think.

I agree. Maybe coming back as an FPS will create some brand awareness so they can make maybe an old school RTS that otherwise might be suicide in todays market. Seriously people quit cho whining.
Game looks fun as. A bit of a personal sleeper hit
I'll at least rent it and play it based on the following reasons.
-Starbreeze made Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
-Starbreeze made The Darkness
Both games I enjoyed a lot.jg4xchamp
I love how Starbreeze games all share somwhat similair feel to them. I would descrbe other shooters as 'plastic' while theres are 'metal'
Just finished the campaign and co-op. Gotta say I really enjoyed it.
I actually felt the first half of the campaign was really great and felt like Syndicate. You raid an enemy corporation, engage in espionage, gun down boatloads of civilians, the production values are great. Agent Merit is very convincing and is your fps bro character. Then of course half way through they decide, lol wait a second, this isn't Syndicate this is generic first person shooter #54. Through the most unconvincing plot twist you decide being a part of a badass corporate death squad is lame and its better to stick it to the man and save the world all for a poorly conceived albeit strongly voiced Alyx Vance knock off. Not only that the side notes you find throughout the game paint the freedom fighters as being no better than the corporations they seek to topple. At one point toward the end after a boss fight you actually get to see Kilo and he actually displays remorse for killing a fellow agent. As a mute protagonist it really just felt hard to buy his sudden change of heart and desire for revenge.
Co-op is a lot of fun and actually is pretty challenging. Mostly because your teammates will be retarded. Number 1 Rule: If you're not shooting, you're healing. If you're not healing, you're shooting. We wiped so many times on boss fights simply because there was no teamwork. Probably because they went the Battlefield route so there's no ingame chat. Dumb. The unlocks aren't as satisfying to get as other titles because 1. It's co-op. and 2. Everything is unlocked on the weapons in the campaign so if you run through that first the only surprise you'll get in co-op is the stripped down weapon you start with.
Those are the main negatives. The bottom line however is that the game is a lot of fun. It's got tons of flaws and I have my doubts about its longevity in multiplayer, but I don't feel like I wasted my money in the least.
Missed the BRINK discussion earlier but here's my take
BRINK was god awful, it did nothing well.
A.I was just stupid, Character Figures were hidious, I'm not asking for Uncharted quality but Jesus Christ, SP was tacked on garbage, Customization options were a huge letdown, MP was repetive trash, and the S.M.A.R.T buttpm was just a glorified jump button. Worst 60$ ever spent
