System of the Year: The Nintendo 3DS.

In 2011 the 3DS launched with very lack luster sales.

Many people considered it to be a blunder with no hope for the system in site, with Graphics being comparable to the PSP and with the Playstation Vita just around the corner, which had stellar current console like graphics and a sleeker design, it looked like it was curtains for Nintendo's latest handheld.

But Hope sparked in the Form of Nintendo's Quick Thinking, with Nintendo cutting the Price of the 3DS dropping the system nearly a full $100 off of the original Price Tag of $249.99. and Giving Gamers who had purchased a 3DS before hand Early Access to NES and GBA games through the Ambassador Program and just in time for the Holidays where Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land were to debut and with Ocarina of Time and Star Fox 64 3D already out, the 3DS was shaping up to become a juggernaut in the Handheld Gaming Industry if not the Entire Gaming Industry.

Thanks to 3rd Party Support for the 3DS over these 2 years we now have loads of Game titles to choose from for the Nintendo 3DS, ranging from Casual Titles like Nintendogs + Cats or Crosswords Plus to Mature Titles such as Resident Evil Revelations and Shin Megami Tensei IV.

The 3DS has had a pretty rough start, but 2013 is the year it really shined brightly.

Not only has the 3DS been breaking sales records by Maintaining it's lead over Major Consoles Month after Month, and Out Selling the Total Units of Wiis sold in Japan, the 3DS has been giving us AMAZING game titles this year.

Tomorrow the 3DS will get this masterpiece and I for one will enjoy the heck out of it.

No one can deny the Greatness the 3DS has given us this year and it's only getting started.

i've been playing both my 3DS and my Vita far more than anything else this year. That has to mean something.

Yeah this was a great year for 3DS. I'm also really looking forward to Zelda and Ace Attorney. Only 13 days until Dual Destinies is out :D

PC also had a lot of great exclusives this year. Not to mention all the multiplat games that run and look a thousand times better on PC than on 8 year old hardware like Crysis, Bioshock, Tomb Raider and GRID to name a few.

All I know is that because of my PC and 3DS I barely touched other systems.

3DS did an amazing job of bouncing back from it's horrific launch. Definitely some quality exclusives there.

3ds had a great year. Don't know if I would say better than the PS3 though.

But other systems will blow it out of the water with their lineups. I talk about the PS3, 360 and PC, btw.

Can't think of any other system this year that's had such a beastly exclusive lineup (outside of PC ofcourse)

My favourite system this year was PS3. I mean GOTY is between Bioshock Infinite, Last Of Us and GTAV. Only PS3 got all of them.

My main hyped PC game this year was Rome II and that kinda sucked :(

3DS 2013 is the single best year that any handheld has ever had. Can't think of one that comes even close

Pretty damn solid year, but the only stand-out title I've played on it this year is Shin Megami Tensei IV. Pokemon looks awesome, Ace Attorney's demo was fantastic, and Mario and Luigi is hopefully more SS or at least BiS than PiT.

There's also some I have that I have yet to play/finish like MH3U. There's also plenty of interesting games that I don't have yet. Overall, it's solid but nothing amazing. Better than the other systems? Sure, it beats the GBA, DS, and PSP for this year.

The PC wins this year, unless the new Zelda game just ends up being the best game ever or something. The 3DS will end up second, imo, and nothing else will really be close.

It's been one hell of a year.

Lifetime Sales for the 3DS Have Now Surpassed the Wii in Japan

3DS is the best system........ for a Sheep.

But PC and PS3 have done leagues better.
Heck, even 360's Halo 4 thwarts anything of the 3Ds.

I think it did a pretty good job as well. Close to PC in my books especially when I get my hands on Pokemon tomorrow. :D

Realistically though without any bias clouding my judgment... PC still had a much bigger and better game library for this year.

If 11 games makes it a system's year, it wasn't a good year.

I reckon this year is a split between the 3DS, PS3 and PC. All done massively well in the exclusives department.

3DS did really well. So well that I'm showering it with tons of expensive accessories like Mugen batteries and leather cases.

However, my PC is going to destroy my 3DS this year, since some very good PC exclusives and multiplats came out this year, and giant titles like Watch Dogs, AC4 and Batman AO are only a month away. 3DS certainly kicked my PS3 into the auction house though.

Well i own a 3DS and the only game of interest is Pokemon X and Y... i was hyped for Fire Emblem but the game was severely disappointing. So for me... this year main game choice of the year would be PC and PS3 second.

I couldn't agree more. 3ds is really going strong. The library just keeps on getting better and better.

Now if nintendo could do the same with their wii u library that would be great.

I would trade rhe whole next gen PC game library just to play the introduction of Bravely Default

3DS is like PS1+N64 (my two top systems of all time) put together, cant get better than that really

Zelda Link in time, Layton Azran and Bravely Default are my top anticipated games right now, together with Dark Souls 2

Based on game output this year: PC>>PS3>360>Vita=3ds>Wii-U for me.

Dont forget to trade your past gen pc library for level 1 of bravely default and while you are at it trade the future pc library for level 2 as well .

3ds and PC was the best combo this year and likely will be next year too looking at the crap thats being released on xbone and ps4...

I'm in the middle of Project X Zone and really digging it, surprised nobody talks about its awesomeness... anyhow, got to look for another JRPG on the 3DS to play when I'm finished. Any suggestions? I never played an Etrian Odyssey game before, are they stand alone games or am I gonna have to have played others? Should I play Etrian Odyssey IV and/or Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millenium Girl?

@lamprey263: Skip EO4 and get Millenium Girl since it actually has a plot.

6 AAEs isn't that impressive. Barring the metagame bubble of e-twattery I will say it's doing very well in 2013.
