Poll System Warriors...A question for all of us. Do you buy digital or hard copy games? (90 votes)

Digital 42%
Hardcopy 58%

I was curious as to what all of your preferences are as far as buying your games digitally or actually going to a store and getting a hard copy. I personally have drifted over to buying my games digital. In my opinion buying hardcopy games unless you are a collector is useless. Many people say what if your HDD crashes? Well, I say what if your disc gets scratched? Digital purchase is simply too easy and conveinient to have to go to a store, wait in line and get back home to play a new release!

Both. Digital for the smaller cheaper games, Steam sales and hard copies for games that are like 30 gb and over.

Hard copy. Digital ones are usually twice as expensive where I live

I don't mind buying digital when it's cheap. But if it's $60 right out the gate, I will get physical first. That way I can resell and then later on when the digital copy is really cheap, I can get it then.

I buy console games predominantly as hard copies. Plus when you pre order hard copies you often get bonuses and $10 back lately

PC = 99% Digital (Only Blizzard and Origin games are physical)

Consoles/Handhelds = Physical (I don't trust the companies with digital content)

Answer is basically

Console = Physical

PC = Digital

On Console digital games are often expensive, so its not overtook physical yet

On PC physical games are generally not sold on high streets, not many anyway so services like steam for instant download and play dominate.

I'd bet the poll just reflects the ratio of console and PC gamers

100% digital on PC

90% physical on consoles.

80% physical on handhelds.

I like having the physical copies more than not. I'm a collector so I'm wired that way. But for remasters like GTA V I have no problem buying a 2nd copy of a game digitally. My biggest issue with digital on consoles is the terrible download speeds and how unreliable the services are. PSN seems to go down or partially down every Tuesday a big game releases. There is no excuse for that. And the hard drive sizes are a pain but not a deal breaker obviously.

Depends on the platform.

PC digital.

Out of the current gen platforms, I feel like only the Wii u retains that value of owning physical. On the X1 I don't really care if it's physical or digital.

Mainly hard copies, but with some digital sales on PSN that started changing.

Then I downloaded Smash for 3DS rather than purchasing retail so I always have the game with me; to do that I had to buy a 32 GB microSD card. Now I have all this space so i'll be downloading Pokèmon and quite a few other games methinks.

Both, I wouldn't mind going all digital, but convenients seems to be the only real incentive for doing it.

Size is also a factor for me, if it's a seriously massive file, then most(not all) of the time I will get the hard copy.

Arkham knight will be one of the games that I don't care how big the file is, I'm getting it digital because I want to play it as soon as the clock strikes twelve.

Both, but if given the choice, I'll always buy the physical game.

Case in point yesterday, I just bought a couple volumes of Ducktales on DVD for my daughter and remembered they released the NES classic all prettied up on PS3 last year. I looked it up on PSN and decided to check if Gamestop had it on disc. Sure enough, they did so I picked it up. Great remaster. I recommend it.

If a physical version is available, I always buy the physical version.

I don't trust digital games to always be there. Some day they will shut down the servers that host the digital games, but I will always have my physical disc.

Plus, I like to display my games on my bookshelf and be able to hold it in my hands; it gives me a greater feeling of ownership.

ShoTTyMcNaDeS said:

A disc would only get scatched if you don't take good care it. I've never had any of my games get scratched because I take good care of them.

I always prefer a physical copy of a game. However, I will gladly take a digital version if the price is right (Steam, PSN/XBL sale, Amazon, etc).

I buy hard copy whenever I can because I like to know I really do own the game. A digital version can be removed from a service so that if your version is deleted you can't get it back. It hasn't happened to me, but I do know games get removed from services so this is a real issue.

It really depends. I have no problem buying digital games when I can get them for under $5. I think my mindset is slowly changing to a digital future. A few years ago I would have completely opposed digital copies; however, when I can buy Mirror's Edge for $2.25 digitally or for $13 physically, I think the choice is obvious. Physical space in the home is also another thing I'm beginning to take into consideration. I relegate my PSN purchases to PS1 classics and games below $5 during flash sales.

I would buy lots more digital games than I do if hard drive space wasn't the problem that it is. There's been lots of stuff that's been on sale on XBL for $5 that I've turned down that I would have purchased if space weren't an issue.

I mainly use digital.

I had my flat broken into a while back and had my entire game collection stolen. They stole my laptop with any pics I had of the flat, and for some reason they stole a mason jar that was full of receipts. So, in the eyes of insurance, that collection didn't exist.

For full retail games I usually by hardcopy unless the digital one has a great sale. For example, I got the original Forza Horizon digitally for $14.99, but refuse to pay like $20 for the Rally Racing DLC. Lower that to $5 and I'll grab it. The fact is, I can't resell digital games. So I will get the physical disk.

PC & Vita - 100% digital (excluding the few physical CE I have for PC)

3DS - 100% in terms of retail games, but I have a fair amount of eShop only and VC titles (doesn't really count as only one option)

PS3 - 40% physical/60% digital (I only bought a PS3 this year and made the mistake of not going all digital. Of course sometimes you just can't pass up a good deal. When I get a PS4 I think I'll be going all digital)

If we are talking about current generation games, then I buy hard copy.

If it's an older game, then I prefer digital because I am paranoid about buying older copies. For example, I paid thirty dollars for Pokemon FireRed earlier last summer. After 70 hours of game play, my file was "deleted" somehow. Fortunately, that's one of the few times I've been burned buying a used game, but I am way more comfortable with digital copes for games that used cartridges or are, like, fifteen years old or older.

Digital all the way. Significantly better deals, if you know where to find them.

I also have too many games to allow physical storage anyway, and HDD storage is cheap as dirt nowadays.

So far I've gone digital because I could get credit free or discounted and I'm able to game share with family. I'm a collector so even when I buy the disc version it's been so long since I let anyone borrow my games. Also with features like instant switching and share play, you'll need the digital copy of the games to take advantage of it. But if a game is like $5 or something during the holidays or something, then I don't have any problems getting the hard copy. So in the end, I choose which ever one saves me money. I don't sell or lend my games like I did back in high school days so it doesn't matter how I get the games just as long I get them free or discounted like I have been recently especially with getting free credit to get free games digitally.
