If you've been following the game all the way back to E3, its pretty much the demo that was shown there. Except once you defeat atlas you can fool around in Bresha ruin, talking to NPC to earn sidequest/hunt and try out the monster allies mechanic.

Cattleman revolver takes 2 headshot to kill players because its that bad i guess. But generally it depend how far you are but i agree, it happen often.
