I think that few tablets are actually more capable than alot of cheap note/netbooks and low end laptops.
The most notable series of tablets are the transformer ones by asus. I currently own a tf101 and it's a great tablet for it's price. The tablet itself has a great battery life. With the keyboard dock attached it lasts for 2 days of heavy and light gaming with internet browing. The screen is fantastic however it is pretty reflective and is pretty annoying outside in the sunlight. The tablet with the dock feels like the weight of a note/netbook aswell. The pre installed office apps lets you create and edit word, excel and powerpoint files. The keyboard dock with the trackpad makes it easier.
The camera is meh and pictures come out grainy which is a downside. The build quality of the tablet is somewhat questionable. Me and others who own the tf101 have issues with dust getting under the lens. There is a slight gap inbetween the camera and the back panel which allows dust to get in. The build quality of the dock is great compared to the tablet but the tablet is more important

The nexus 7 looks good and it's got a tegra 3 processor at a low price which challenges the kindle fire. Too bad the nexus 7 doesn't have a micro sd slot for more storage, other than that it's looking like a good yet cheap tablet

As for gaming on phones and tablets it's good sometimes when playing games like angry birds, world of goo and some driving games. Other games like the modern combat series and anything similar, the controls are just horrible and hard to use.
