Good news.

With so many devs under their roof now, they could release a console and crush their opponents.

It was inevitable, EA's next target is probably VALVe.

If EA ever decides to release a console it will rip the others to shreds.

Good news.Krigon

Yeah, it is not official yet, but it is looking to be pretty much a done deal. EA has actually turned things around as of late. They have quite an impressive number of quality dev houses under their umbrella, and they are allowing them the flexibility to do their thing as well. I personally have no problem with EA at all anymore.

Rock Star is a division of Take-Two, so yeah if EA buys them out then Rock Star will come with the deal.

This does not mean that EA is buying Take Two, this simply means that Take Two is allowing EA to talk directly with the board in order for Take Two to start to negotiate options, what the possible future between the two companies would mean for them, and to discuss the true value of the company to EA. Its means that they have put aside the hostile tender offer to negotiate a possible acquisition in which Take Two will have more say into how it happens.

as i'm fond of saying, thank god people like this aren't in control at any of the companies. :D and yeah, this is pretty much a given. one nice thing is that if EA and Take 2 end up in a closer relationship, EA has the Alpha Centauri IP while Take 2 has Sid Meier/Firaxis. :D :D :D

This attitude about EA irritates me, in case you haven't notice EA has produced plenty of great games throughout the years, just because they are a big corporation doesn't mean they are evil or something...

Oh and what are you talking about their never being a good GTA? EA will basically just be looking over the companies, it's not like as soon as they get bought EA henchman storm the Take Two offices and fill them with EA staff who produce the same game year after year. What are you frightened that they'd do to GTA exactly?

Given what EA has been doing with it's properties lately, I have to admit that it's probably not a bad idea.

It seems like Activision/Blizzard is the new EA these days.

With EA buying all these companies, I know they are cooking up something. I can almost guarantee they are going into the console market next gen. (with their own console, incase I wasn't really clear.)

I agree that Activision/Blizzard is the new EA but I will still support Activision Blizzard because I like Raven Software (which is owned by Activision) and also will support Blizzard.

This was sure to happen.... Take 2 couldn't seriously afford to not accept the offer. EA had offered WAY more than what Take 2 had been worth. GTA4 may have pushed stock value up but the overall company value didn't budge....

Take 2 just wanted EA to give in and offer more money.

But now that EA has said that they are going to let the offer lapse, Take 2 has no choice but to bite the bullet and just accept it.

There isn't any other plausible business decision...

Then blame the people who hyped and the people who reviewed the game.

Try some free mode online anyway, it gets over looked.

Why would I blame anyone who hyped it? The game was differnet than the last gen games in alot of ways, like it's serious/darker tone, and more realistic themes. I wanted the same good ol humored San Andreas and what not. I dont think it's poop obviously, just think it didnt have the same spirit the last GTA games had.

The online is boring in my opinion.

An EA console would be unstoppable....

Think for a second.

Madden + GTA as exclusives.... Those 2 alone cement victory. Throw in KOTOR/Mass Effect/Dragon Age(Bioware), Sims/Spore(Maxis), Battlefield(DICE), BioShock(2K Marin/2K Boston), System Shock(2K Boston "Irrational"), and all the other properties that EA would own.... And then the possibility of them buying Valve. And who knows, maybe even id...

That is an unstoppable force.

If that would happen next gen, Sony and MS may as well throw up their white flags now.

MS isn't going to invest that much in the gaming market....

They will invest a lot but never the $200 billion that would be needed to pull that off.

wouldn't matter.

All that would matter is the GTA franchise.

EA would probably like to have Rockstar as well, but the franchise is all they would need.

There would be no guarrantee that R* would even be able to strike gold twice... Chances are they would just stay with EA.

fine, that was an exaggeration.

But it would take more than $40 billion.

Activision Blizzard merger was a total of nearly $20 billion. EA is only slightly smaller than the newly merged Activision Blizzard.

EA controlling Ubisoft, Take 2, and Elevation Partner(BioWare/Pandemic) would be worth rediculous money.

MS wouldn't invest that much... MS likes the gaming market but it isn't worth THAT much money to them.

40 would be more than eought to get it done, Ubi and TTWO are not as big as you seem to think they are. EA maybe huge in the video game industry but they really aren't that big of a company, specially for MS. MS would proably be willingto put down the cash if they feel it would give them domnance. They have already bled what? 7B? A few years ago they pilled up so much cash that they litteraly didn't know what to do with it. They ended up giving half to their share holders for a total of over 33B and guess what, that pile of cash has grown quite a bit since. EA would be a nice thing to spend some of that pile on.

I guess nobody has read the article, plus it's one day old. Take Two has signed EA as a consultant of sorts to evaluate it's actual worth. Because EA was trying to pay below it's actual worth.

They milk their franchises: WoW, Call of Duty (Treyarch...ugg), Guitar hero, etc.

Yes, I read it, that is why I said in another post that it was not official. However, the article is titled the way it is, as what is going on is merely a matter of formalities before EA 'officially' does aquire Take-Two. Wait and see.

EA would lose their Madden exclusive license if they made their on console. The NFL would want their sports games to be availbale to all consoles, not just just EA consoles.
