Why are turn based strategy games bascially non existant in the consoles? Maybe they could add to their player base if one of them tried to break the mold and added some TBSto their libraries.

True. But it is wrapped around a role playing game, which sort of makes it a genre of its own.
Well if you want to split hairs. I say you should take what you can get.Point taken. You pretty much have to take what you can get in this day and age.

I can't think of something thats turn-based-stradegy and not RPG, SRPGs are very very different from RPGs though.

I know how you feel and if you're really in a rut then you could always grab Shining Force on the VC.I don't believe there really are many Strategy games for consoles, outside of the SRPGs. For the most part they dominate PC, turnbased and real time, alike.
I wouldn't mind seeing more turnbased strategy on consoles though, I think they would work better than real time; I dislike RTS on consoles, they tend not to work well, imo.
But I also like SRPGs as well... at least some of them anyway. But I am an RPG and strategy fan, so that might have something to do with it.
Perhaps part of the turn-off is the American desire for action. Look at it this way: Americans are not big Go or Chess fans. Those two are essentially precursors of turn-based strategy games. We like a more frantic pace, which is why Americans seem to be more into RTS than TBS. Besides, RTS more reflects reality (in its own way) and is considered more challenging.I don't believe there really are many Strategy games for consoles, outside of the SRPGs. Which makes me think. Tell me if it's been done before: a strategy game closer to real-life, in which you as a commander get to plan your forces before the battle, but once things get under way, your perspective is limited and you can only make so much adjusting during the battle (and that these actions are delayed by communications lag). I'm guessing something this close to real life may have been determined too challenging to make a good game.

I can understand why there's few TBS. I probably wouldn't play many of them even if more were made; I tend to find them too slow at times and I really have to be in the mood to play one.
I think there is a game somewhat like the one you are describing, but I can't be sure. It would be interesting, but probably not something I'd play. I'm more of a Starcraft person.
