Consolites trying to rationalize subpar frame rates. Movies aren't filmed at 24 fps because it's magically better than higher frame rates. It was minimized to keep costs down and has become a standard.

parkurtommo
No, like i said the refresh rate of projector based theaters is based on 24 fps and 48 fps, anything in between would not function. monitors and TVs can display images at 30 and 60 fps because their refresh rate allows it, 120hz displays are also capable of displaying native 24 fps.

I'm curious then, will screenings of the next Avatar movies need new projectors since it will be running at 60fps?

Agh, I'm on a mac right now so I can't really copy and paste the link, but the CEO of Ubisoft said himself that the game was under development for 3 years. It was one of the reasons why I was hyped for the game.

soulitane

I don't believe that.

Not hard to believe, ubisoft (especially the AC teams) have a lot of staff, whether those 3 years were put to good use though is another story.

Didn't the 3 years include making the new engine?

Nah, I don't expect any time in the X1/PS4 lifecycle where the majority of games will run at 60 FPS. On consoles, for most games, a rock solid 30 FPS is good enough, it's better to use the extra power for more eye-candy.

clyde46

Especially in games like these where the 30 fps can be beneficial for a more cinematic feel. Even as a PC gamer I can admit that 30 fps can be better in some games.

The only game I've played at 30FPS that didn't feel awkward and that was GTA4.

Why are you buying both consoles then?

It was called Anvil Next, it was supposed to look really "next gen". AC III did look really good on consoles especially with all the AI and weather effects, so I can see why that would take a lot of dev time.

That would explain 3 years then, most of the time spent making a new engine :P

In that case I believe it would be 60i frame rate (interlaced). 60 fps is not a factor of 24 fps and 48 fps and thus would not be a native framerate. However, most or at least a large part of theaters now are digitized and can display 60 fps, like any TV or monitor would. I'm clearly not an expert on the topic, though. :P

Ok, will be interesting to see it in the cinema, watched The Hobbit at 48fps and to be honest I just stopped noticing a few minutes in.

I'm aware. But this is only so because it has become the standard. They could have arbitrarily selected another number. There's nothing magical about the number 24.

Yeah, it's basically an industry standard. They could change it, and they are attempting to with 48 fps. But doing so would require a lot of adapting from the audience, people aren't used to different framerates, unless they play games that is!

Our early analysis based on the presentation given at the Sony E3 event gives a result that appears locked for the most part in the 30fps range, with absolutely no tearing.

I thought it was running at 60fps:(

where is the freaking x1 version at

# M$ get a grip will ya, sort it out

Cuby_Finest

There is a reason why they don't show any multiplatform game so that a comparison could be made,it would not surpise me if developers were actually NDA bound to not show the xbox one version if they show the PS4 one.

We would have to wait unti release to know.

Remember when this series was about blending in with crowds, tailing a target, and inconspicuously murdering that target?

Wrong. Its an international standard now but back in the old days, it was the slowest speed that film could be run through a projector and not feel choppy. Add to the fact that roles of film cost studios tons of money so they wanted to use the least to save money.

No actually he is completely right on that, 24fps was to keep costs down and because of its wide spread use has since become the standard. Funny when people say its the cinematic experience, more like people are just used to it. I was unaware real life moved at 24fps.

If you want 60fps you go PC for multiplats everyone knows that. It does disappoint me but I it's not that the new consoles lack the power, it's just that the devs don't fully know the consoles yet. tagyhag
Yup. Games will get better both in fidelity and performance and the generation progresses.

I'm not sure if this has been proven or not, but I think when you watch something in 24 fps, it acts as an unrealistic reality if you will, you know that it's fake but you like it. 48 fps makes it noticeably fake, as in you start to realize that the actors are real people moving in realistic ways. But eh that-s just my opinion. When we get used to things, changing them can affect our enjoyment.
