It's called a difference between what they SAY they do, and what they actually do. Sony SAYS they support their consoles for ten years. What they actually did was count the PS2 as supporting the PS1 in that lifespan, because when my PS1 decided to die again during that time, the only choice I had was to get the PS2... and throw out a fair few still-working accessories (gameshark pro, I will always miss you  ). If anything, I'm stunned they're still supporting the PS2, both because it's been so long, and secondly because they had their chance to nuke it with the PS3's BC. codezer0

So you're saying that what they stated was wrong? Yet what you say should be taken at face value?

Them ceasing production on a product would likely be the truth, otherwise employess would likely have leaked the story had they shut down production of the PSX earlier (seems as we're playing the hypothetical game here). Why are you using anecdotal evidence to come to such a resolute conclusion?

The PS1/PSX lasted an almost 11-year lifecycle and the PS2 has passed its 10-year line. By that, I can safely conclude they support the consoles for the 10-years. Whether the PS3 will be supported for such a long time remains to be seen.

It's the truth because you say so? I showed a link stating production wasn't stopped until release of the PS3. So far, you've provided nothing, so I don't understand where you're going with this.

Don't support Sony, i'm sure they won't mind :?

You obviously didn't look or you live in a remote, obscure place. I bought a PS1 in 2001, a year after the PS2 launched and saw it at my local store for many years after that. chathuranga
What retailer did you buy it from? And I seriously doubt Orlando, Florida is that remote. Best Buy, Circuit City (before their bankruptcy), Gamestop, you name it. None of them had or carried PS1 systems around then here. And none of them carried PS1 anything by year 3.

Relax with the blind hatred and listen to reason! Why buy a PS1 when the PS2 played PS1 and PS2 games? It was a 2 in 1 console. Why sell the PS1 anymore when the PS2 will bring local stores more revenue and not take up space in the stock room? They didn't stock up on PS1's because nobody wanted them. Nobody but you I guess. So while you were too afraid to embrace new things you began to hate sony for making you...dare I say...buy a superior console. It's not Sony's fault. Blame the demand for cutting edge tech.

Except I couldn't afford an xbox 1 then. So the only thing that really affected me regarding the xbox 1, was the lack of titles that were in the "BC" list for the 360. Thankfully, a lot of good Xbox 1 titles were still available even after microsoft abandoned the Xbox 1.codezer0
Hmm... I gotta say I'm not surprised by your calm explanation. I think we all see through it now. Good night.

I bought it from Best Buy. And like I said, I saw the PS One at many retailers like Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Circuit City well after the PS2 was released. I bought games for the PS One from Best Buy and Walmart well after (Even in 2002 and 2003)the PS2 came out.

They can say that all they want, but you could not buy a new PS1 anymore when the PS2 came out. And that's the truth. codezer0
No it's a bold faced lie.

Between the launch of the PS2 and the discontinuation of the PSone in 2006, Sony shipped roughly 30 million PSone units.

I bought a few as well from Gamestop after I heard you can play PS1 games on the PS2. I never owned a PS1 so it was great for me. I got my PS2 in 2002 mind you.

No it's a lie since his local stores didn't carry them. Sony called Orlando and said don't sell anymore PS1's especially to that CodeZer0 guy.

They also sold over 30 million PS2s between the PS3's launch and the end of Fiscal 2009. Impressive stuff, that's almost as many PS3s they've sold.

Here's another link directly from Sony regarding the 2002 holiday season:

"In its eighth holiday season on the market, Sony Computer Entertainment America extended its commanding industry lead with the original PlayStation game console posting sales of nearly one million units for November 1 through December 31 timeframe. Fueled by the ultimate PS one™ console pricing at $49, with more than 1,200 games to choose from and an optional LCD screen for convenient portability, Sony Computer Entertainment America continues to deliver a wide market for its existing PlayStation business."

LINK

It directly states they sold almost 1 million PSX systems in 2002. This is after the PS2's release date of Oct of 2000 in NA.

It seems TC doesn't have a leg to stand on with this argument.

Someone may need to retract their statement.

LOTS of PS1 games in 2002, 2003, 2004, and even 2005.

The PS1 wasn't discontinued until the release ofd the PS3 (link). Production still continued well into the PS2's life cycle, and up until the release of the PS3.

What a company does regarding it's stocking of systems is up to the company. They can choose not to carry a product, though I believe you are probably just making this up.

codezer0

They can say that all they want, but you could not buy a new PS1 anymore when the PS2 came out. And that's the truth. When it came time that my third ps1 went out, there was no choice of getting a new boxy model or a PSOne - it was only the PS2 that was available. The last thing I was able to get that was PS1 related was a set of PS1 memory cards once my 24-page one was finally dying out on me, two and a half years after the PS2 came out. And even then I had to go to about five different stores before finding one that had 'em. Whatever. between Sony's boneheaded moves this generation, I'm just going to choose to save my own sanity and not support them anymore.

I saw new PS1s and PS1 games well into 2004 at my local Target, so I highly doubt Sony killed it if production continued into 2006. Did it ever occur to you that maybe stores stopped stocking PS1 consoles and games in order to use their shelve space for the PS2, Gamecube, Game Boy Advance, and Xbox? Even at my Target, the PS1s were no longer in the display cases with the other systems. They were generally stocked in a back section of electronics where they were placed alongside older games for the PS2 and Xbox that were on clearance.

i replaced my ps1 in 2004 with a slim ps1 infact the last game available was nascar thunder 2005 chase for the cup! nascar 05 which came out in 04

so your wrong on that plus i have nascar 04 to prove you! were wrong

on subject

yeppers 10 yrs for ps3 360

wii hd coming in the middle of the next 2 yrs

( no offense but boy that would be bad for microsoft if some way wii hd came and mopped the floor !) cause not only is sony catchin 360

what a sight to see if nintendo can hold 4 spots on the chart-ds 3ds wii wii hd with it lookin like this by the end of wiihds life time!

1 -ds 150-60 million plus

2 wii 130 mil plus

3-ps3 100 m plus -goin on the track their on the ps3 360 are 30 mill short of wii sales with that number always getting a little more higher0

4 wii hd for 7th gen when really its an 8th gen console!)-100 m plus im asuming all wii owners upgrade!

5 - psp-100 mill plus

6 360 90 mill plus

dang wouldnt that be bad

ps2wouldnt factor in becasue that would be even sadder!

then on the 8th gen charts

3ds

wii hd

psp4000 all thas either rumored or confirmed! and the wii hd is inevitable

nintendo already has wii 2 in development and is lookin into putting 3d into it already hints now about it

so by next yri expect to hear about it

so not only is this 10 ys life cycle gonna back fire on microsoftand love tap sony a little

its gonna be money in the bank for nintendo dont blieve me! they would do 3 things by the time this gen is done

1-revolutionize handhelds controls

2 revolutionize console controls

3 revolutionized handheld graphics by adding 3d and adding more controls to the already succeful ds line

and 4 would be sad stock to every one who ever doubt nintendos ability to go hd

---bring out wii hd fully bc with everything! and still have 3d and gas to spare!
