Played it, beat it, played some strikes, did some grinding. Anyway, can someone explain to me what the improvements to this game are compared to the first game aside from some of the padding to the story? And why the heck did they take away the ability to unlock upgrades for your weapons and armor?

@lifelessablaze: I'll let you know what Destiny 2 improves over the previous one when the PC version release next month and no way I'm playing this game on a console! (PS4 version was one thing but PC version is another story)

Well they added more options to waste money. It's almost revolutionary to replace a great feature of a title (shaders) and turn it into a money printing machine. Why use a middle ground like Guild Wars 2 if you can go all in?

It amazes me when majority of users saying already nothing is vastly different than original and i read some reviews/previews how Destiny 2 nailed it and is way better than original because they listened to community.

for example one of the previews says

"Destiny 2 has all the makings of a brilliant sequel that addresses almost all the chief issues that plagued the original Destiny when it was released in 2014. Our time with Destiny 2 thus far have been wonderful. "

This is a mess. I cant trust anything coming from Activision/Blizzard anymore or certain sites favoring games based on preference ( or money maybe?) I need to play this myself i guess.

TFW you realize the game is published by Activision.

And you are surprised the sequel is a side step.

Damn, Bungie really shat themselves with Destiny.

Once a respected studio, now a pathetic slave pumping out utter crap for their Activision overlords.

I don't normally agree with you, but this is looking dead-on. After the good critical reception, I took a "wait and see" approach to this game as opposed to "Hell NO!". . . It's looking increasingly like they shortchanged the post-campaign content to shoehorn expansions. They're not fooling me again! I'll admit, I thoroughly enjoy the style of gameplay in Destiny, though. I'm truly hoping that Anthem steps up and scratches that itch.

@Shewgenja: Fair enough. I don't normally agree with you either.

I like your use of buzzwords and fancy jargon though. :)

Its a console first game and consoles don't do new very well.

Unless it's innovation in how to milk the idiots without having to work for it, then no effort is spared.

If you've played it then why are you asking us what's different? You should already know unless you're full of crap.

The skill tree design/synergy is a huge part of this kind of game, its one of the biggest draws for me just like when I play a Dibalo game the very first thing I do is look at the skills and plan my build. Then you have the items and equipment design, it takes a while to play though to see how all the changes impact the game, may not be obvious at first.

I only played the vanilla version of Destiny but this game feels to be as much of a sequel as most any other game. The story is told much better and of course it continues from the first game. New locations of course as well. Not sure how much things progressed with the dlc from the first game but there are a lot of quality of life improvements to many aspects in this game. There is much more benefits for solo players then there was in the first game.

If you don't have an interest in playing this game then that's perfectly fine, not every game will appeal to everyone, however some people's comment are so unbelievably childish and pathetic that I have to wonder how some of you even make through life dealing with others who have different tastes and preferences.

Destiny already got your money. The time to complain was before you bought it.

Destiny the poor man's Halo.

"I love buying half a game while Halo gives everything for free."

"I love Destiny and hate Halo because it is soul less."

for real though, Halo 5 is 10x better than Destiny or Destiny 2 (and i havent even played Destiny 2, hahahaha)

When I played the "Beta" or as I like to think of them glorified demoes. And the Beta was just meh. The expanded on the classes just so slightly as to make them feel the same but refreshed. Also them keeping that light system is a big no no for me as well.

It's very familiar to the first game no doubt, buy I'm okay with that since I liked the first game.
