This thread bleeds ignorance, especially from developers. PC games sell moderate amounts over a long amount of time, it's all a cycle; hardware prices drop, game sales carry on as more people can afford to upgrade to whatever rig they want. Console games just sell a few hundred thousand/million in a few months, which is what publishers (sup Activision) want in this economic climate.
And yes, most dedicated servers are not run by the actual developers/publishers, third party companies such as jolt or multiplay.co.uk have their own dedicated boxes and users rent them for clan hosting/public communities.
Though, I was never interested in rage - the potential communities on the PC are not gonna happen as it seems. welp !
Edit - And it's not like it will even matter in a few generations, consoles are becoming more PC like, PCs are "losing" features (though the choice of a PC system will never die), the two will eventually become so similar that it's possible things will be ran in the same manner, there will be no competition and everything will be extortionately priced, gg.
