That Would Be Dumb if Halo3 Got GOTY

Halo2 is basically a multiplayer game. It doesn't deserve to have any points knocked off for its average campaign mode because the multiplayer was excellent. Same with Halo3.

You don't see game-reviewers who love atmospheric single player games reviewing stuff like BF2 or UT2k4. They don't get any points knocked off for absence of the ever-important campaign mode, but Halo2 and 3 did, and that's ludicrous. There are a lot of people like me who can't play much other than Halo multiplayer anymore because it's so much better than anything else in our opinion. Not everyone likes Halo online multiplayer, and I respect that, but it's something you can't really find elsewhere. It's in its own league and deserves to be considered more special.

If you know of a game that gives you an experience like Halo3 multiplayer, please tell. I don't see myself ever playing in lame-ass PC shooter pubs again, even if the core gameplay is more responsive and possibly better. There's no incentive for your team to win. And there's no way I'm joining a PC shooter clan. Trying to stay in one of those would be near torture.

Well forge is a big boost but its not innovative enough, not to say it dosent rock. Mythbuster4ever

I suppose saved films and screenshots in game are innovative, but Halo3 didn't have to be the first game with them. I wish they saved time for more important stuff.

I've probably played more multiplayer FPS than you and Halo 3 falls in the same category as all the great titles multiplayer titles. The only real difference is the community behind the game and the boundaries that are set by the game itself.

These boundaries do not exist on the pc. Anything is possible, this is probably the reason I enjoy pc gaming as much as I do.

Halo 3 althouigh a great game is not innovative enough to be game of the year.

I want even comment one the Killzone joke since it was well a joke. Had me going for a second though.

What does global standard mean? So you've contacted everyone who has played Halo and recorded their opinions on it in comparison to other games? Lets not make up phrases or ideas here because not every site gave GOTY to Halo but some did and many people feel it deserves GOTY, how many? Who knows. These sites like GSpot, 1up and IGN do not hold anymore truth about a game than our own opinion so trying to say theres some global spectrum of which every gamer has agreed upon just because Halo never won GOTY is a major copout because you have no idea..and you will never have an Idea how many actually feel a certain way about these games. So your theory of minority/majority reception is just not true.

What makes these sites opinion worth anything? Nothing at all aside from bragging rights.
And if I wanted to take a shot at HL2, the proclaimed greatest game of all time, I could just say that it took 5 games to match Halo 3's score on here..

I think the only games that are even considered GOTY are

• Mass Effect
• Halo 3
• Assassins Creed
• Bioshock

OB cant be a contender for GOTY since Half Life 2 was out like 3 years ago and EP 1 was also out a year ago.So that means only EP 2,Portal and TF 2 could win GOTY but cant since 2/5 games in OB where already release before 07.

EP2- is pretty awesome and makes you want another episode

Portal- is addecting but a 2 hour game getting GOTY would be stupid

TF2- a MP with what 3 maps and 2 modes shouldnt even be nomination worthy.

-.- I dont mean unique to the genre, I mean unique to the franchise.

Orange Box = Best Single Player FPS experiance + 2 expansions to it ( Those 2 alone are as long as Halo 3 ) , an amazing small adventure puzzle FPS thats very unique and has very good humour ... and then Team Fortress, one of the best balanced class based FPS we have ever seen, its art-style is also unique to the genre and is adored...

Crysis = Only similar FPS to Crysis is Far Cry (Naturally) , this has expanded HEAVIULY on Far Cry ... no not a small ammount, a TREMENDOUS ammount in all aspects, well it should do, the team is 10x the size and abcked by all the major companyies .. EA/Microsoft/Intel/Nvidia .

Its already been said that Crysis Single-player and Multiplayer could of been sold seperetly they are so complete, Crysis majorly improving on BATTLEFIELD MP ... and the single player, like I said is a TREMENDOUS upgrade to Far Cry.

Mass Effect = Il let a Lemming explain this one, I havnt been whoring the media on it, but I loved KOTOR ... this also expands onto Kotor GREATLY in many areas.

Theres 3 examples for you, your having a laugh if you think Halo 3 has done anything near these spiritual sucessors to thier previous games.

there are deffinetly a lot of high profile RTS's this year...C&C3, Supcom, Opposing Fronts, World In Conflict, Galactic civ....etc.

Yeah I tend to agree, but they are not getting much attention.. Not to mention 2 of those you mentioned are expansions, 2 (C&C3, and Supcom) were good games to some but alot of peopel were disapointed.. World In Conflict I have yet to play, but yeah that has definite possiblity of being goty with a 9.5..

Look at the critic score, according to the information collected from other sites Twilight Princess scored better than Halo 3. And don't say that becasue this is the gamespot forums that their scores are the only ones that matter.

....Exactly what did I say that was a lie?? I'm pretty darne sure everything that I stated was the truth, and yet you say that I'm lying. Go look for yourself on this one, even the "User Score" is lower, a 9.0, this is from people who own the game, and that is thr truth from Gamespot users.

I'm just saying that games that receive GOTY usually do something very new to push the industry forward, and are a ton of fun to play and receive very high scores. We have some great games coming out this year that should fit all of these descriptions, and not all of them are FPS. WhileHAlo 3 did score well over all cross the board, and can be an enjoyable experiance online....it really is the same thing as the last one, but just looks nicer.

On SW Gamespot scores are the only ones that matter. Mods rules.

Before anyone calls me a fanboy, let me 1st state this, just because I have a different oppinion from you doesn't make me a fanboy, it just means that I have different tastes in gaming.

1. 16 bit era: Owned Genesis and Snes

2. 32/64 bit era. Owned Ps1, N64, Sega Saturn and Virtual boy (yeah I know :P)

3.128 bit/last gen Owned Gamecube and Ps2

4.This gen, Only Wii at the moment, but I've been pc gaming through all this as well.

So based off my gaming pattern I am anything but a fanboy, consoles are a little more expensive this time around so I haven't purchased my 2nd one yet.

Seeing as games as low as 8.4 have won GOTY, score does not matter nor popularity.. Halo has done nothign dramatic nor can it really be undisputed champ in any way shape or form when it comes to shooters out there..

Gears of War was completely different compared to the average shooter.. With third person perspective and cover system.... RE4 was entirely new take on a great franchise which resulted in new AI ideas where enemies could climb ladders go through windows.. And the new aiming interface was genious for a survival horror game...

I not so sure that it would be "dumb". First off if you asked me which game I think should get GOTYI would say Mass Effect (pending play obviously) however I can fully understand why Halo 3 could get it. First off yes there have been few changes but the formula for the past two games was widely loved by users so why change it? Instead they added and improved as could only be expected. Also considering how much you can play this on Live £40 is a bargain and a half! For me the only area of Halo 3 that I felt at all let down in was the graphical dept. It was beautiful but it could have been even more so.
