The 3DS is designed to kill Sony, not to actually succeed the DS

from the time sony started making consoles, EVERY SINGLE sony console was better than the nintendo competition.

relax this is the first time nintendo outsold a sony console. and i could care less about grandmas and moms buying their kids and grandkids ds's. i want to play COD on the psp2, not jump on mushrooms on the DS.

The 3DS is $100 more than what the DS launched at. The games are going to be more expensive, not only for consumers to purchase but also for devs to develop. The worldwide market is in more of a slump than it was back in 2004. The 3DS is ignoring the sort of games that flourished on the DS (2D platformers, adventure games, 2d puzzle games, old-school RPGs etc). Lastly, the 3DS is focusing on N64/Gamecube style games (and we all know that these games only put Nintendo into decline). The 3DS would be incredibly lucky if it sold half as much as the DS. I don't think the 3DS is going to be the runaway success that Nintendo hopes.

But despite all this, I don't think Nintendo cares. The 3DS is aimed at undermining Sony in so many ways. It's a much cheaper 3D camera/camcorder than Sony's Cybershot and HD 3D camcorder. It's a cheaper 3D movie player than Sony's PS3 + 3D HDTV. It's a cheaper Netflix player than the PS3, and it's portable, too. Most of its featues seem like Nintendo thought "how can we really stick it to Sony?" instead of thinking "what does the customer want from the next Nintendo handheld?"

I don't necessarily like this. I'd rather have Nintendo focus on pleasing customers instead of revenge-killing Sony. They tried to do that with the N64 and the Gamecube, and not only did they lose, but they also greatly declined.

The only problem is that nobody who wants a netflix player would choose the 3DS, nobody who wants a 3D camera/camcorder would chooset the 3DS and nobody who wants a 3D movie player would choose the 3DS.

TC, you are stretching it a little far. OK honestly, I hope you're kidding.

If you think a handheld gaming system is competition to a REAL CAMERA with a lens that's 100 times better, you're crazy.

If you think the experience of 3D on a little screen is the same as 3D on a 50" 1080p TV, you're nuts.

This is even worse than Steve Jobs saying that the iphone is direct competition to PSP and DS:lol:

Yeah Steve, playing MGS Touch where you can't even move the character was so fun, NOT. It was like taking MGS4 and reducing it down to a crappy shooting gallery. So crappy.
