This is something that is not really funny regarding the 3DS. If the lower screen would scratch the upper 3D screen could that possibly lead to worse 3D effects?
I'm leaning more and more towards a 3DS redesign at this point.

Its not a wide spread problem, only a few people have reported this happening to them because only a few actually had this manufacturing error. Definatley not a big enough problem for a redesign!
I had it leave a faint dirt mark once but scratches sounds like rubbish to me, it's pressing against the screen very gently so unless you're smashing the top of your 3DS I don't see how it would scratch, you could leave a knife resting blade down on the surface of your skin and it wouldn't do anything unless you put pressure on it.bobbetybob
I've seen multiple youtube unboxings where they just smack it all the way down instead of gently closing it.
Just because you can does not mean you should people.
Parts of me die inside when I hear the CLACK sound :/

It's a Nintendo handheld.
You know, the system that has been the choise for young kids all these years. It's not a bomb.

Damn...did Nintendo rush this thing out or what? Bread_or_Decide
It's seems the typical errors with first shipments, it happens all the time, even with the Wii, i'll be fixed in no time.

I'll give you the last one as that could have left a mark on the screen. The previous ones were simply closing it normally.
You also has to keep in mind that this is the first time a problem like that has happened on a DS system so it's not like they knew about it.
This. I have one on my standard DS Lite for my touch screen.Screen protector problem solved.

Kind of defeats the purpose of a clamshell if you have to buy a screen protector for it.
Hand helds...lol. I wouldn't be caught dead playing video games in public.percechYes its so better playing games hiding in your room.
I don't get how that works even, but I don't own a 3DS either. If you consider the other DS systems, they have never had this issue, or any reported, so maybe perhaps this is just a few unlucky people somehow causing the error in some unnatural way? The source says "few" people, how many is "few"?
Regardless, I'm sure it's not an issue that's widespread and people who have this happening to them must have really oily fingers or something and touched some part of the system that the screen can touch, or I have no clue still. :|

Playing around with an i-phone is an easy way to get laid. :P

It probably has something to do with the upper screen being much wider than the lower one.
If you have DS (Not 3DS) laying around you can see that the upper and lower screen are inside a plastic crated rather than being inside the system like the PSP. This creates a plastic edge around the screens. When you close a DSPhat, Lite or DSi these plastic edges are matched and never touches the screens. On the 3DS though you have the upper screen being wider and thus comes into contact with the plastic edges of the lower screen.
There is an element of truth to this. No woman is going to wander up to a guy with a gaming handheld and ask him what's up. But she sees an iPhone, she'll wander over and ask if he's playing Angry Birds.Playing around with an i-phone is an easy way to get laid. :P

let me guess, youre in high school :P
I'd chalk that up to one of those launch flaws on just a small amount of units, but that's the price you pay for buying launch hardware. I'm not waiting for a new design, but I will wait a few months for better software and allow for better units that weren't rushed for launch day.

Meh, I've used my ds rigorously for years and the touchscreen doesn't have any scratches on it.
As long as you don't have dirt or something on your hands you shouldn't really need one.

I've completed all EBA stages on 4th difficulty, after wiping it clean it was like new. Just a sidenote, I HATE the way you have to do those spins, why would they include that, even being Nintendo published? :/
People use their hands on DS's touch screen? :O

lol posts like this always make me laugh.
You're on a gaming forum dedicated to arguing about computer games.
I know what this is talking about.
My 3DS I believe has them but it's not hindering the 3D Effect (so far).
I need to get some Screen Protectors before it gets worse.
This type of thing always happens with the launch models of handhelds.
The DS lite had that cracked hinge problem and the psp had those dead pixels and defective square buttons.
It's why it's generally better to wait.
Hand helds...lol. I wouldn't be caught dead playing video games in public.percechSelf conscious much? :? Use a screen protector. Its not rocket science
