Isn't what he's saying about how 4k reso eat more hardware power, in the progress limiting graphical fidelity. (example: Polygons, textures, etc)

I guess we are through the looking glass... Back when I started PC gaming, the adage "There's no substitution for resolution" was considered infallible. I say, if anything is holding back graphical advancement, it's simply economics. Big AAA companies play it safe when they greenlight big budget games and safe games don't need crazy graphics because familiarity is what sells.

@True_Gamer_: 4K is awesome and so is ultrawide, but stop trying to bullshit us with the 7970 claims. That card is shit and will struggle even on a regular 1080p monitor, let alone an ultrawide.

I have essentially the same card, an R9 280X and I have a 34" Dell 3440 X 1440p monitor so I can comment on this thread with some hands on experience. I disagree with you that the 7970 is sh!t and will struggle with 1080p. That's exaggerating a quite a bit there. I can run practically any game at roughly med with a lot of things set to high and I only turn the res down to 1080p in more demanding games. Otherwise I run them at the native 3440 X 1440 resolution.

I will also disagree with the OP's claim that you can run any game maxed out at 1080p ultrawide. That's a bit of an exaggeration as well. You can run everything pretty darn good but you can't max out everything even at 1080p wide.

280X is shit too. No wonder why you think the X1X is good. LOL

First, upgrade your piece of crap CPU before you open your mouth criticizing my rig. Second, get on your knees and apologize to me for being disrespectful.

LOL. I bought it when it came out and it is still one of the best gaming CPUs you can buy. Nice try though. Also, you should not be talking about CPUs since the X1X CPU is absolute shit. As for me being disrespectful, that is because I have no respect for you. You are a joke.

Your CPU is dogsh!t, it shows how clueless you are that you are actually trying to defend it. You can buy for only $225 a Ryzen 1700X and that is an 8 core 16 thread ***BUDGET*** CPU. What you have is dramatically worse than that. Now go get your f@cking shine box!

A 1700x is $360 on newegg, with a release price of $399, 7700k was like $350. And the 7700k still beats it in a lot of gaming situations

Performance per core sucks on 1700X. Not many games make full use of multi threading and more than 4 cores. The 7700K is better overall for gaming. I am not going to replace my 7700K yet, but if I was to buy a new CPU right now, it would be the 8700K. It has 2 extra cores over my 7700K and maintains the high PPC unlike the Ryzen offerings.

The 8700K is a decent CPU, miles better than the trash in your bottlenecked garbage PC. The reason I brought up the Ryzen 1700K is not because I think it's the best sh!t out there. It's because even though it's a budget CPU, it murders the trash in your PC. And yes the performance per core is not as good as the 7700K but it has TWICE AS MANY CORES AND THREADS, did you miss that? It's a lot better than the trash in your machine and it's a budget part. Upgrade your sh!t box already!

In the past what we had was simple graphics steps:

- Textures

- Polygons

- Shaders

and other graphical settings advanced and people had to upgrade in order to benefit from the improvements

This gen we see a pathetic scam of 4k ruining any hardware advancement for simplest of reasons:

Pixel per inch density

Espesially on PC where it is beyond moronic to pay for a 4k monitor when an amazing ultrawide will deliver insane immersion while not hitting on the frames

A buddy of mine who is on a 7970ghz 3gb from 2011 SEVEN YEARS old dinosaur can run on a ultrawide 1080p at 75 frames anything he throws at it....maxed

Hell my 1060 6gb pushes even more insane frames

And my fear is that if devs use 8k as yet another scapegoat to have games using pathetic graphics just on 8k this will prolong the life of dinosaurs like 7970 into teens...

I'd say some PC gamers are to blame. They've been ramming 1080p and higher resolutions down everyone's throat all throughout last gen.

I'm not one to blame inanimate pieces of plastic and circuit boards. So, why aren't PC developers pushing the envelope? They can always make that decision whenever they want.

@True_Gamer_: This should be in a PC hardware forum as it mentions nothing about games or games' qualities. It's just tech talk.

Gaming should be done on small monitors. If you play on big TV you are casual. TV are for movies not games. On a 24-27 inch monitor the difference from 1080 to 4K is minor, unless you wanna put your face on the screen. I can imagine 4k to 8k is gonna be silly. Maybe good for a 100 inch TV or something lol

I wouldn't say 4k is a scam but 8k simply wont be as noticeable unless you have a pretty large screen.

I know it's blatant trolling but...

In this article, we focused entirely on gaming using the new AMD Balanced power plan. Of the 14 games we tested, many of the tests the AMD Ryzen 1700X was able to hold it’s own against the Intel Core i7-7700K. There were times where the AMD Ryzen fell behind the Intel i7 by as much as 10%. However, the inverse is also true, sometimes the AMD Ryzen 1700X took the lead over the Intel i7.

Otherwise the difference between them was 1-5% in most cases.

You can't rightfully call the 7700K which is a very good gaming CPU a piece of crap and then proceed to recommend a 1700X which gives the same performance and was released later. The 7700K won't be a bottleneck even at 1080p. I had a 4790K and it slaughtered at 100Hz.

I think that's partly why this place is so dead now--nothing but pc tech talk and Microsoft resolution/feature threads.

Turning into one of those Steam forums...
