I don't particularly have any category to add, just a story of when Lair was released.
So my brother and I drive down to the near by Gamestop to buy Bioshock (I think it was). We got in line and the guy in front of us asked the idiot employee if they had Lair.
Guy in line: "You guys got Lair in yet?"
Idiot Employee: "Nah bro, it got pushed back for two weeks. It has some pretty big framerate issues."
My Brother: "Ummm...its right behind you in that cabinet. Theres about 30 copies there."
Idiot Employee: "Those are just displays."
Me: "Oh really? I could have sworn your displays had different cover pictures. Besides they look like they are in shrink wrap."
Idiot Employ: "errr...I guess they did send some to us after all. I still would not buy it cause of the framerate issues."
Guy in line: "Framerate issues?"
Idiot Employ: "Its when the game does not play fast enough."
Me: "...Lair does not have any framerate issues man, the controls are another thing. Where do you get this information from? Making it up?"
Idiot Employee: "Sony."
Me: *Laughs* "Wait, so Sony actually tells you guys their games are bad?"
Idiot Employee: "..."
Me: *Pays for Bioshock at other register and leaves*
These guys get so arrogant. I guess when they finally have a chance to appear superior to some uninformed person, they dont like to miss their chance...
The misinformation(BS) guy
You know what that smell is? It's pure AA grade Bull****. That is what some gamespot employees bent on misinformation will tell you. I'd know whether they're just fanboys or just stupid casuals. Whether it's "the xbox has better graphics than the ps3" Or "the ps3 breaks really easily and doesn't play blu-ray movies" or "the 360 can't do HD" or etc... Such mindless untrue crap that it eventually making you want to strangle the employee and burn him.
that employee sounds like he's on dope or somethingI don't particularly have any category to add, just a story of when Lair was released.

i come in to gamestop to buy smg and brought a ds game to try and get some credit and the game is only worth 2$??wtf???ok so i just ask the employe to take the 2$ out the the 49.99$ for smg. and i have to get in a 10 min math disscusion to tell the guy i just want 2 bucks taken out! 50-2=48!!!

Did the guy ever think that maybe you didn't plan on purchasing any game's they have for pre-order?There is this British dude who manages the EB (now Gamestop) around here and he is terribly annoying about pre-orders. I don't go there anymore because the last time he pushed some pre-order on me and when I said no he started talking out loud to his 4 employees (way overstaffed) about how only an idiot would not pre-order something. He was sweating profusely while he did this. Very weird.

My gamespot is for the most part pretty cool, they gave us free drinks on the Halo 3 midnight release and got a DJ, which was weird since most of the people there were dudes, and dudes who couldnt dance... or liked the music they were playing, either way it was the thought that counted, but, there's this long haired british dude who always looks down on people for not getting RPG's, that's my only complaint, I cant really blame them though, most of the people that go in there are casuals, or clueless parents, and one time I went in there the employee had to say "No, we dont have an Wii's in stock today," over and over for a good 20 minutes, and he stayed polite about it throughout, same cant be said about the shoppers, though. I've encountered the needs-games-more-than-soap guy, the pokemon kids, the comment guy, but that's not the employee's fault,yo, and there are other places to shop.
[BEGIN VENT] Ugh, I run into the first two EVERY time I step into a Gamestop/EBgames. I've had a bleeding tongue quite a few times from biting down on it whenever they made a critique worthy of a b**** slap. And that "Sup bro" crap gets on my nerves too, I mean do I know you? No, so address me formally please, i'm not your friend.
I've also been a victim to that $5 off scheme, I only bought the game [Odin Sphere] due to it being the only copy I could find. Thankfully it looked new for the most part, but that's the only time i'm purchasing a used game with a price so close to the new retail one. [/VENT]
When the staff make you look stupid
I don't have gamestop where I live, so I can't relate to many of those 'things'. But at my local EB, sometimes when you ask when a certain title comes out, or if it's in stock, they repeat the title back to you confused as if you've spoken German to them, or you're request asks the meaning of life.
They give you a blank or 'WTF' look before checking through their catalogue. The absolutely clueless staff will check through their catalogue much longer than needed as people in queue behind you scratch heads and sigh heavily while the staff somehow makes your simple, one-question request a giant, lingering nuisance for all.
Optusnet
I've gotten kind of a variation on that. And you all have to hear this:
They think you're wrong
Maybe this doesn't happen to everyone, but here's my story. I went to preorder Super Mario Galaxy, and they said the game would come out in one or two weeks, and I said, "Yes, I know the release date."
The clerk said, "What is it, then (he actually didn't have a jerkish tone about this, though)?"
My typical response was, "November 12," and I was right about that. However, he went by the date when they would actually get the game.
"No, it comes out November 13." He laughed. I knew he was wrong, but I didn't say anything.
lqtm, this is so true.
Last time I was at gamestop, this morbidly obese chick was in front of me hitting on the guy behind the counter. Iwas laughing so hardI had to leave without getting what I came for .
that reminds when I was at an EBgames/gamespot store in the mall, a fat pale small bearded geeky employee was making this chick a mii, he was leaning on a shelf and he knocks a controller over, looks down, shrugs, and kicks it under the shelf, and that was the only time I sawsomeuse use a wiilqtm, this is so true.

my walmart does that tooThey sell "new opened games" for one of two reaons.
1. It was the last copy and they gutted it so some idiot wouldn't run out of the store with it, not that it stops said idiots from stealing empty cases anyway.
2. There company policy is that they can "borrow" new games to play at home for some variable amount of time depending on the manager and their relation to the employees. So even a "new" game may be used to some degree.
My complaints?
None.
Oh and for crying out loud, why don't we just all get our panties in a twist over someone saying "what's up" or something in that sense of a phrase? For crying out loud these young guys/girls are just attempting to do their damn job for the little amount of money they get in return.
The least you could do is just entertain them with a "not much" back and be done with it. OMG you have to talk, world ending moment. I mean they are dealing with the "Pokemon kids and their (worse) parents", and these "random basement dwelling guy who just wants everyone to hear his two cents" many times through out a day.

I just thought it was droll topic. I do have a question about pre-orders? What is the purpose of them?

You mean what does it gain a gamer? I do it simply b/c I don't need to really keep track of when the games I want are coming out, I just get a call the night before (pick it up on my lunch). I get free stuff. I always get a copy (if you buy niche games this is actually important).
I have a question. Why not? It doesn't hurt and costs no more to do so.
Oh and the employes you deal with are more likely to give damn about you as a customer, I mean one of their goals is to get as many subs as possible. Gets a decent customer:sales rep relationship going, which has perks (random free stuff, calls on when certain shipments of harder to find consoles are at the store that coworkers may be interested in getting their hands on for xmas).

If the game is limited in supply, then pre-orders are kinda understandble. Why not? I don't know. I see no harm in it. It the reason I don't go to those game store because they shove it down your throat. It's like telemarketing without the telephone.

Like I said these kids are just doing what they're asked. It's no different then any other place of business.
Best Buy - "Need any help?"
Fast Food Place X - "Would you like to try?"
Store Y - "Did you find everything you needed?"
Restaurant Z - "Our special for the day ..."
Grocery Store A - "Paper or plastic?"
These are just a small amount of examples of go to phrases that almost all places use to get you to do something they want you to. Why would we expect a game store to be any different?

This dude is whacked out. All I know is he is obsessed with the pre-orders because that's how his store is rated against the five other Gamestops in a 10 mile radius. The craziest thing I ever heard him tell a customer was that Nintendo and Microsoft would share games across platforms. Halo on Wii and Mario on 360 type of thing. He was saying this wiith an absolutely straight face and tone. I ran home to get on the computer and of course found nothing about it anywhere. He was telling this to a soccer mom type. Weird dude.
I don't know why, but the people who work at my local Gamestop seem to have some sort of super-sense where they can tell who they can push pre-orders on and who not to. Whenever I'm there, I just buy my game and leave and never have to deal with that, but I notice a lot of casuals are offered pre-orders and more often than not, they usually buy one. Mine is usually pretty good with release dates and info.
The only times I think there was something stupid, it was when one of those soccer moms was demanding to buy some old pokemon game which somehow, Gamestop didn't happen to have and she just kept berating them. The other time was when the employee said how you fight monsters and cast spells in Mass Effect, which I guess is technically true if you count aliens and biotics as monsters and spells. Still, mine is alright but I can see why they're always kinda pissed. I mean, if you had to deal with stupid moms, loudmouthed frats, and annoying nerds at the counter all day long, I'm sure you'd be disgruntled too.

No way... You expect a:
A customer service representative to ask "Need any help?" or "Did you find anything you needed?"
It's the bag boy job to ask "paper or plastic?"
Why are you trying to sell me something that's not even out yet?

I wasn't giving the specific positions of who was asking what, just where you hear said phrases.
They're attmepting to do that b/c it's part of their business. I reserve is a garunteed sale for them in most cases. It's early money in the pocket. And "a dollar today is better than a dollar tomorrow" for any business. They can turn profit off the early dollar, so it's smart business. Again like I said they're trying to make money.
Also, reserving a game helps them deal with the dozens of "d00d did game X come out yet?" calls. And they often get shipments of games based on reserves. I've pre-ordered many games in which I'm one of the two or three people that bothered to pre-order and that all they got for their shipment.
Why do you care if you spend $5 now on a game you know you'll get anyways? Again what does it hurt?
[QUOTE="xflamedemonx"]The only problem i have is that you should be abled to return a new game in atleast 3 days if u dont like it but it has to be in perfect condition
and i thought when they took the cartridge, umd, or disc out of the shelf and put it in the case it was security reasons
atleast thats what one of the guys told me
and theressome guys that toldme al the info i needed on the game without advertising
Yellow_Rose
As a part-time employee I have to say that is somewhat accurate if not condescending. Not all Gamestops are jerks.
As for the highlighted, what other store would let you do that?
I have a independently owned "Game Co." down the street from me, and you can buy a game and w/in 3 days if you dont want it for any reason you can exchange it, but not completely retrun it.

comment about that. I went on the 12th to get SMG, and for whatever reason, Future Shop didn't have it until November 13! I went to the EB games in the same mall and asked if it actually came out today, and he said "yeah you want one?"

It could hurt when you see that the local Best Buy has the game you pre-ordered for 10-15 bucks less than what Gamestop/EB is charging for it.

Then you have no one to blame but yourself for not doing your research. If you know that it is going to be cheaper somewhere else then you would of saved some money.

That's exactly my point! It's also the reason why I never pre-order anything. And if I can't find something in the stores, then Amazon usually has it.

Well there is nothing wrong with pre-ordering stuff. The only reason I don't do it is the only store in my town is a Walmart and they don't take pre-orders. I really only order books online. I'll orderdvds sometimes and almost never games. And the closest Gamestop is over 40 miles away so it is inconvenient for me. Otherwise I would probably pre order games formGamestop all the time. Trust me my Walmart stinks when it comes to getting games in on the day their released and some times they don't even get in some of the games I want. Sometimes I wish my town would get a Gamestop.

That was a very well written post, thanks.
OH what also annoys me is the grubby hand, snot nosed kids that can;t afford a console so they hang in the store occupying the in store test consoles or peek over the shoulder of some poor bastard sniffling in your face.
