I think the crux of the argument is that PC gamers like to tout Crysis when benchmarking PCs vs Consoles. The common logic here of course is that for quite a bit more investment than a console one SHOULD have a better gaming experience. The best gaming value still resides in the console, which is probably why so many millions of people chose to game on consoles rather than PCs.

The reality is that, to have a gaming rig capable of playing Crisis in any respectable state, even if upgrading, the average PC owner would need Direct X10 (Windows Vista), and a graphics card and RAM upgrade. If we`re just talking normal games than I think we have a more solid comparison, but I still think the value proposition still speaks in favor of the console. Chilaxing on the couch in front of the tube, headset on, friends list set, and controller in hand is the way most people like to game. Couple that with the fact that console gaming is closed system, meaning that everyone across all platforms has a unified gaming experience, and you see why people opt the console route.

No hate on PC owners though. If you have the means and want the experience, more power to you.

PC360Wii

Really?hmmm... I have my doubts on that. I'm thinking W.O.W. in mind right now...

Vista is not needed to have the best crysis experience.

Nothing new and done on PC just as well.

Of course I am assuming that not many PC gamers enjoy their games from the comfort of their living rooms. Correct me if I am wrong, but I seldom, if ever, see a PC gamer enjoying his hobby anywhere other than in front of a desk (laptops not withstanding).

Also, I respect the power of WOW, )but its subscriber base is right around the 10m mark. Consider that Halo 3, for instance, sold through $170m on opening day (the largest one day gross in entertainment history). With that kind of selling power, right out of the gate, its no wonder why gaming companies like Sony, MS, and Nintendo are focusing on console markets for their bread and butter. Xbox Live membership, alone, is upwards of 12 million subscribers as well.

In fact if you look at the top 10 best selling franchises of all times http://videogames.yahoo.com/feature/the-top-10-best-selling-game-franchises/532199-2 you can see that the lion`s share go to consoles. It`s not even close.

There`s a reason people prefer console gaming, folks.

WoW sold as many Units as Halo 3 did on day one, something like 2.4 million units, 1.7 million of those activated within the first 12 hours.

Really? Where can I find that information?

Whoa..hang on there, killer. I don`t think anyone said the PC gaming market was `dead` here. In fact, I just stated the opposite above. Those figures also include online Java and Flash games too, I imagine. Let`s try to compare apples to apples.

it's not possible. A "hermit pc" will cost you $1000ish without the moniter. Gamerman12362

Show me a PC for $600 that can run Crysis at max with AA at 1366x768.

HDD, case, PSU, CPU, Mobo, Ram, k/m, GPU, and OS.

CB4McGusto

What console game looks that good?

It should be more like "Crysis at High at 1440x900" at 30+ fps.

For $600 thats VERY possible.

HD 4850 $175

mobo - $60 (gigabyte)

CPU - e7200

ram - 2gb oz2 ($60)

harddrive - 160gb $40

CD/DVD- $10

Power Supplies - Corsair 550w $90

Case- Coolmaster $50

Find me a console with the functionality of the PC. Here's the kicker, you've got an unlimited budget.

Yes, you can't find a PC as cheap as a console that will max Crysis. You'll probably need to spend a few hundred dollars more. Of course, for that few hundred dollars, you get something which is vastly superior in value.

What the hell... what happen to all the PC people saying PCs were actually cheaper then consoles? They were showing us half assed rigs for low prices and everything. Did they finally stop? (I notice none of the cool hermits like VV made threads like that, only a few very annoying ones.)

The real question is, why would you want to build an expensive PC to max out a single game? Seriously, graphics aside...Crysis is just another OK shooter. I'll take TF2/COD4/CS:S/Stalker over that game any day of the week.

I doubt this. All their other data was derived from regular retail and online sales, I can't see why they'd suddenly consider Java and Flash Games in the 263 million figure.

Fact is, the PC is the single most popular platform.

They were never cheaper than the consoles, only very comparable in price (usually a few hundred dollars more expensive).

Its impossible. I really don't care what people say, but you really need a top of line pc to run that game at high settings.

Edit: To be honest its not even worth running at medium setting cause it looks like garbage.

No I wouldn't say that at all. The bottom line is PCs are just as good and at time better with games than a console is.

Thats not true. Maybe you need to look at todays technology. A 4850 is around 180, and can easliy get high at almost all resolutions. At $180 you can build a rig around that 4850 that is $600. It might not be the parts you want, but it can be done.

Maybe the word garbage is a little over the top and maybe I have to fittle with my settings a little bit more, but it looks far from great. I just can't get mine to look good and then again it could because I have an ATI card in there.

OH really???

He offered up stats on the US and worldwide PC games market, saying the former (not including casual games) in 2007 generated $2.76bn revenue, a year-on-year rise of 12 per cent, accounted for 30 per cent of gaming revenues in the territory, and was set to make $9.6bn - a rise of 16 per cent - in 2008.

Crytek said that they ran Warhead on a $600 PC at high settings, so I'm guessing you hermits can manage to put together a $750 PC that can run the game at max w/ AA at 1366x768.

It's really this simple. At the resolution the TC quoted, I can run Crysis maxed out on XP (apart from AA). It will run at a very good fps. Trust me, I have completed the game twice. It runs sweet. I havent even OC'd my system.

Now, if I was to sell my pc on Ebay for example, $600 is about what I would get for it. So there you go TC.

PC's aren't cheaper than consoles. Well, at least the system itself. With console games being more expensive and console gamers having to pay for things like XBL, DLC, etc, etc, it can actually be pretty even.

Consider ourselves quite bright don't we? No, I don't get 60fps but whoever said maxing a game meant 60fps. We're going by console standards here right? So in that respect I think 30 fps would do just fine.

Maxing the game is having all the settings at their highest level and achieving a stable frame rate. If I was going to counter my own argument, I would take issue with the fact that I'm not using any AA, but I've already conceded that. I think a lot of you consolites are really missing the point...

I classify maxed out as having all the game setting turned up at your native resolution; after that it is up to the person, some people won't accept a game is maxed out till it also has 4x AA while you yourself demand 60fps. But the way I see it if the game is running at a playable frame rate with everything turned up at your monitors maximum resolution, it is maxed.

I know this is one of the most frustrating points to get across to people. Crysis at medium settings is like most other games at maximum settings. It still easily surpasses almost all console games. Would anyone care to ask how much us hermits could build a rig that would crysis at medium settings?

True maxed out is when the settings are set to max in the game and the resolution is the standard for this gen aka 720p. AA, AF, higher resolution is premium. otherwise any console game not having 4-8xAA, 16xAF, running at solid 60fps and at 1920x1080p is not maxed out then going by the flawed logic.

Its impossible. I really don't care what people say, but you really need a top of line pc to run that game at high settings.

Edit: To be honest its not even worth running at medium setting cause it looks like garbage.

xscrapzx

Like garbage eh?

Maybe the word garbage is a little over the top and maybe I have to fittle with my settings a little bit more, but it looks far from great. I just can't get mine to look good and then again it could because I have an ATI card in there.

Yeah.. It almost looks as bad as the best looking console games out there.. Awful I tell ya...........

Show me a PC for $600 that can run Crysis at max with AA at 1366x768.

HDD, case, PSU, CPU, Mobo, Ram, k/m, GPU, and OS.

CB4McGusto
We don't need to. We just need to build a system that is more powerful then the current consoles (and that can be done with $600). Crysis doesn't need to be played on max to be fun.

[QUOTE="SilentNight_"]Consoles are better for gameing, PC for everything else (which is pointless here)Kez1984

Opinoin's are great.

So are grammar and spelling.

[QUOTE="DAZZER7"]

CB4McGusto

Maxed out is 60fps and you get those frames with a 8800GTS 320MB?

Depends on Stream Processors, Pipelines, Type of DDR used, Refresh rate etc. You have to look deeper... But usually ATi are the place to look where those specs matter.

who cares if you cant build a pc that will run crysis "maxed" for 600 bucks... mods for pc games alone is a reason to love pc gaming. i had a 360 and ps3 both, and must say my choice to rid of them has been probably the best choice gaming wise i have ever made. i run crysis pretty well i must say :D 35-50 fps very high settings with the new texture mod,and x4 aa i must say its very niiiiiiiiceeeee :D

8800 gt - 150 $

motherboard + cpu - 250 $

3gig ram - 100$

hdd- 70$

case -30$

cables to hook it up to your tv - 5-10 $

kb+mouse-gamepad - 50$

= ~ 700 $ and you can do ANYTHING. not just play games. Can you create game with your console ? no

can you make animation or movie with your console - no?

can you run your own website through console - no? etc

for just little more expencive device you get EVERYTHING.

+ DONT FORGET GAMES ARE CHEAPER ON PC.

So when you have 10 console games its allready more expencive.

+ dont forget how much big HD TV cost.

You can have monitor with bether resolution for like 1/5 of hdtve price (games are actualy rendered at high resolution unlike console sub720p games stretched over screen)

MAXING OUT CRYSIS IS RIDICULOUS!

MAX OUT = 16 X AF 16 x AA BEST RESOLUTION POSSIBLE (lot more than your console sub720p game) NO OPTIMISATION OF TEXTURES ETC.

But you can deffinitely run Crysis on high with this setup.

Hell even on low it looks bether than some games out there lol (just look how bad models are in Killzone 2)
