The Anti-Graphics Thread

Okay,so I'm absolutely SICK and TIRED of seeing those pointless,countless and redundant "graphics king" threads on System Wars,so I've made this thread. Why? Because I thought that SW needs a breathe of fresh air away from those boring graphics threads. Please,let this thread be a place where we can just peacefully talk about the ACTUAL games and not some pointless extra pixels on a TV screen.

Graphics only seem to matter to PS3 fanboys and PC guys looking for something to justify the price of their rig. Graphics were pretty important to me...last gen. This generation has delivered great graphics, but even better gameplay, and even more important to me: Great online play! I own all 3 systems, but dont play hardly anything but my 360 since its got the most fun games to play with friends (IMO). I think Sony failed in that aspect, they focused so heavily on power and graphics while the other consoles passed them on fun and making it easy to play and connect with friends. I think the 360 has a great mix of fun, graphics and community.

Crysis...

...has large levels which give you many ways to attack a given situation, tons of environment interaction, and good physics. It makes for really intense gameplay, especially if you use the sandbox editor to stack some more fire power against you.

there's a reason PS3 and PC guys talk about graphics I mean just look at the graphics on the games for each system.

if I only owned a 360 I would also not talk about graphics as theres really nothing to talk about.

Crysis steals the show too much. How come no one talks about, say, Arma 2? The engine is a bit clunky/dated, but it's hard to argue with how good the game looks.

I just finished Crysis. That was disappointing. Went the exact same way as Far Cry, first half is good and then the second half turns to crap. It dosn't do much differently from what Far Cry does. Under the gloss it plays almost exactly the same. Maps are a bit bigger, and stealth is more viable and you get a fair bit more freedom, but it's not any more fun. One of the most overrated games I've ever played. And the story was complete crap, it was like a parody. If the game had kept the momentum it built up in the first set of missions it would have been a good game, but it fell apart when it became about the aliens. It really is all graphics.

Yeah,I started a couple of graphics threads,just to find out that 9853612 people have started graphics threads 2 minutes later on SW,that's what annoyed me and made me stray away from making any graphics threads again. And the comic in my profile is actually meant as a joke on this whole "graphics king" thing.

It dosn't make much of a difference. Strength is used for punching the occasional door or doing a big jump. Speed is useful for moving between points quickly but it isn't radical either. Armour is, well, pretty standard. The cloak is good though, that was probably one significant difference. Aside from that it wasn't radically different. It was just like every other play as a marine and kill the aliens shooter, with a few tweaks.

i like graphics

but i hate how people focus on it with tunnel vision

can you imagine watching a movie for the first time with it muted? that's what graphics whoring comes off to me as - tunnel vision, and totally ignoring the other equally as important parts of what makes a good game

if good graphics were all that made games good then everybody would be producing AAAA games all the time

Let's try something interesting. What game is "combat king". Basically what game of yours has your favorite combat. I'd have to say Demon's Souls or Batman: Arkham Asylum this gen.
