You know there is usually a brief cutscene before most games? In the title screen or on themselves sometimes, well what do you think is the best? My vote goes for Red Alert, seeing it again reminded me how awesome it is.ONLYDODAlthough i'm not a big fan of CoD4, I always remember the awesome opening scene once you pop in the disc. Also Valkyria Chronicles demo had an awesome opening scene. Guess we'll have to find out about that one.
Oh yeah the MGS2 intro was just insane.MGS2 or MGS3 had killer intros.
Seeing FFVII's intro re-done with current gen graphics is drool-worthy.

I've played so many games and never before has a game blended gameplay and cinematics so well. Not to mention, it just kicked butt! That was one heck of an opener.
You guys, GO TO YOUTUBE and watch ONIMUSHA 3 intro.
It blows away this thread.

Not bad but how does it compare to the intro found in MGS? Or Vice City?

MGS games blend in gameplay and cinematics better especially MGS 4 it transitions from cinematics to gameplay perfectly and naturally.

Yeah we know it's one of the best and kicks ass LOL.
Other than that one, I have many in my top list. FF VIII, MGS, all of them, Tekken 5.
The others are slipping from head right now.
The first MGS on PSone. The first time an interactive intro had been done. Credits rolling over the game as you play like a movie. Same for the first Half-Life with the monorail ride.
For more recent games The Darkness has a great intro that jumps you straight into the action with a kick ass car chase sequence. Bioshock's intro never gets boring "Welcome to Rapture..." que awesome music. CoD4's first level and execution sequence is great and of course MGS4's with all hell breaking loose as the geckos show up.
Even though the ending was incredibly dissapointing to me... I thought GTAIV had a cool intro. The music, the way the credits were blended into the background, etc... it was all pretty cool. Too bad the ending was the polar opposite if you ask me.
Also, the first couple of cutscenes from MGS4 were awesome. I know there are peices of gameplay scattered in the middle of the first cutscene, but when Snake is avoiding the Gekos, and they're tearing stuff up and he's hiding and stuff... it's intense. I remember when I first bought the game, after I saw that I went to YouTube and watched it like 1,000 times. Pure awesome.
Start watching at 4:28. Epicness.

If we're talking about intros after the main menu then God of War takes the cake. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MRfzZRE2iE
It transistions instantly from the menu to the cutscene not to mention watching the main character commit suicide at the beginning of the game was shocking. Its epicness set the tone for the rest of the game.
