Eh... Onimusha 3's intro was decent, if only for Jean Reno. Same with Shadow of the Colossus. Playing the latter, the game is definitely amazing, but that's because the sum is greater than its parts. Red Alert 2's was actually pretty freakin' cool lol. You just have to get past the really low production values though.
A better teenage pant-wetting intro than Onimusha is FF VIII. Squall vs. Seifer was pretty cool, and all the epicness surrounding the relatively petty, but character-defining fight.
The original Gran Turismo is a fine example of a really pumping racing intro.
GTAIV had a really c1assy one too. As carljohnson mentioned though, the story gets lost somewhere around the end.
The original Shenmue also had a nice intro.
The world is coming to and end, 6 damn pages and not even one person named Fallout intro?

Absolute classic and unlike almost every other one named in this thread (Aside from RA2), it's timeless , it's already over 10 years old and will still look amazing even in 2018, while stuff like MGS3 or 4 will look downright ugly by then
I know sports goes over the minds of most gamers here, let alone half of you being from the United States, but FIFA 2002 is seriously one heck of a damn good intro. It's so epic, that it got every football fan salivating at the prospect of playing as all the players that were "snapshot" onto the intro. It captured the intensity, skill, and drama of football all to the tune of 19/2000 by The Gorillaz. FIFA has not topped that intro since.

Um, so? Since when did real gamers care about graphics? And hell Adrian, you're a PC Gamer. You should be the last person to talk about pretty graphics. Or are "hermits" an exception to the rule?
Btw, RA2 is dated. It looks like an 80's low budget TV production, and the CGI looks dated as well.
The Broken Sword games have fantastic intros. Next Life has a pretty cool intro (and it has one of the coolest sci fi stories I've seen in a game). The Experiment also has a very nice intro, setting the scene for an isolated, out-of-use (or is it?) ship.
Those are the more memorable adventure titles that have cool intros. I don't think many adventure titles start off with a big bang, but they're consistent within the game, and usually even peak towards the end :D

Yeah, I had 2001 man it was fantastic. I remember my cousin worked at the local video store, and one day he brought back 2002 for the night saying we will enjoy it. Boy, did I really enjoy it lol. Everytime I played real life football after that I'd have the 19/2000 song stuck in my head like I was the man hahaha.
2002 World Cup, Korea-Japan was the last FIFA I bought. I moved onto PES 3 after that (has one of the coolest football covers ever, and it didn't even have a football player on it lol), then PES 5, then back to FIFA 08.
Wow, it's felt like ages though since I came back to FIFA, but it's only been two games

Lmao... "real gamers", stop with the silly elitist crap.
And sure, gameplay > graphics easily, except that there's no gameplay in intro movies (shocking revelation isn't it?). They're all about visuals. And of course the techical quality isn't the only thing that counts, there's still plot, ideas and atmosphere (altough atmosphere does take a big hit if the visuals are crappy), but tech still counts and it does make even the best and most impressive CGI look meh after couple years
What rule? You're hilarious :DAnd hell Adrian, you're a PC Gamer. You should be the last person to talk about pretty graphics. Or are "hermits" an exception to the rule?FrozenLiquid
Every game CGI movie more than couple years old look dated, but human actors save it from aging as badly as fully CGI intros.Btw, RA2 is dated. It looks like an 80's low budget TV production, and the CGI looks dated as well.

That game was truly something different. It did have a pretty cool intro though. The Experiment also has a very nice intro, setting the scene for an isolated, out-of-use (or is it?) ship.

I also liked the intro shown in The Witcher. It's rather long, but still nice to watch.
Always really liked the Red Alert (1/2) intros.
Nothing gets the blood pumping then hearing the Hell March theme and seeing good ol cgi.
Have to say the Metal Gear Solid introductions are always top notch in exellence.

Hell March has the capability to make anything awesome.
