GTAIV.
Felt like San andreas with everything stripped down and more "realism"
Some people dig that but for me, no thanks :/
Erk, this is embarrassing, but... Super Mario 64. I got sick of collecting stars and forgot what the point was. Why can't they install some security in that castle.
Okami... Okami... Okami... BubbyJello
Really? Would you please share your impressions of it and why you didn't like it?
GRAW . . . Like most Tom Clancy games, I just don't like them. They feel so artificial and soul-less.
God of War . . . I still can't believe a mindless hack and slash is put on the same level as Resident Evil 4 and Metroid Prime. I mean it's not a bad game, it has great production values and is very visceral. I am looking forward to God of War 3, but I don't think God of War is quite as good as many people say. I like the Prince of Persia games a lot more.
Shadow of the Collosus . . . I respect the game for what it does, and I understand why people love it so much. For me personally, I didn't like it. I thought it was going to have an awesome story, but nope, there's almost no story (at least in the beginning of the game). The world is empty and plain. The animation/movement of the character and horse felt awkward. Finally, fighting the various Colossi felt like such a chore to me.
Well, I'm not sure about high-scoring games, but everyone who played Fallout loved it except me...
Though this could be due to the fact that I was 9 years late to the party on it and it simply hasn't aged well...
I wouldn't say that. I just played Fallout 2 this year and loved it.Well, I'm not sure about high-scoring games, but everyone who played Fallout loved it except me...

But I'm not gonna hold it against you. At least you gave it a shot.

I played it for the first time this year as well and just couldn't get into it. I could see why other people could love it, but I didn't love it myself.
BG2, though, I loved to death, though I had only played that for the first time this summer. I felt the combat and RPG mechanics (for mages, at least :) ) were incredibly deep but accessible, and I loved the story and side quests. I guess BG2 is simply an easier game to get into...

You hate a game because another person hates it? Great impressions you got there, looks like you thoroughly played through Okami!

No, he means he explained it there. I just looked at helium's thread after asking here and saw his post... d'oh.

WoW (i dont see how people can waste their life on this it sucks!)
GTA4 (senselessly running around killing people sounds fun right? it actually isnt...and the missions and story suck pretty bad)
CoD4 (just plain out overhyped)
MGS4(more of a movie then a game)
Resistance FoM(just because it was one of the first games on the PS3 dosent make it THAT good)
guitar hero(same thing different song)
final fantasy 8 and up(seriously.......enough)
Halo 3 (seriously overrated) how's that? don't complain about other games being overrated when ur favorite series is the most overrated game franchise. Also, if you've played MGS4, you would know that unless u can beat the game in 3 or 4 hours, it's mostly gameplay and while the cutscenes are long they are skippable and entertaining to people who have ACTUALLY PLAYED MGS1-3.WoW (i dont see how people can waste their life on this it sucks!)

MGS4 -- so boring...BioShockOwnz
If I had a dollar for each time I've read negative comments about Mgs4 from you... I'd have enough for a new psp game :D.
Too bad I dont get those dollars from anyone.
Anyway, Halo 3 or Mario Galaxy most definitely.

To you, perhaps, but not to others. I, for one, loved Mass Effect (it's one of my favorite games this gen), Baldur's Gate 2, KotOR, etc. far more than I enjoyed any JRPG I've ever played. It's all a matter of one's own personal preferences.

Indeed, i respect your tastes but my concept of rpg has been based on chrono trigger and Final Fantasy XI since I was a child, those games called western rpgs are Simply not my thing.

If you do intend to break into the genre, though, I'd suggest something like KotOR-it's a great story-driven game like those you mentioned (and it's turnbased, though it's more DnD turn-based than FF turn-based), but it offers some of the more western elements, such as choosing how you go about things, character customization, etc.
No thanks but maybe I'll give it try sometime, just to see how it works, traditional linear turn based rpgs is what I like.
and a f1rst pers0n shootah every now and then :P

And if you like that, another good way to get into it is to ease your way in via games like Deus Ex and System Shock 2. They aren't full-blown W-RPG's, but they offer enough elements of them for you to get acustomed to the genre...
