Not having to actually build a rig to play it. :) Look at so many PC exclusive games like The Sims 3, I guarantee most console gamers here can run games like it on the computer they are using right now.

Or look at the "Most Played/Popular" PC games according to the GS main page, top three are: WoW, FM 2011 and SC 2. All these games can be run on most not-ancient computers out there.

So many great exclusive PC indie games are just as accessible to console gamers as well, this is why PC gaming is so great. On a side note, all console-only gamers here should go check out the great PC exclusive Gemini Rue. ;)

I wouldn't be surprised if plenty of people here can run Amnesia too!

The problem is some people here might claim this accessibility does sort of defeat the purpose of building a rig. Some might even claim that this accessibility is a weakness because if you already have a laptop for work/school, getting a console would be the best choice because you would have access to console exclusives and multiplats and a good amount of great indie/blizzard PC exclusives as well. Anyways, I don't know what to think of this last part.

Before I built my new gaming PC I played sims 3 on low with according to Pass Mark Software the 653rd best GPU in the world XD.

Even now with my pretty low-medium 5670 I get an average 67fps with everything maxed out.

going by my forays into sims 1 on PS1 yeah they completely suck and take away half of what the sims is about. It was nuetered much like Sim City DS was a neutered low res port of SC3000 with a bastardised feature set.

Subtle but still a bit too obvious, much better though. Just for asking sake, what if you want to play the more demanding PC games? Why would you buy a console?

I have no idea what you are talking in your first sentence. Anyways, about your question, I think those people wouldn't deny that there are still plenty of PC exclusives, they would be arguing that a good number of them are accessible to them even if you don't have a gaming PC. They would argue that getting a console gets you access to console exclusives, multiplats and plenty of PC exclusives, as opposed to getting a PC and just having access to PC exclusives and multiplats. I can't tell what they would say for sure tho, you are better off asking one these haters personally.

What other system is the Sims 3 on?

EDIT: I looked it up. Ouch, the console versions scored a 7 whereas the PC version got a 9.

Oh and The Sims Medieval is still only on PC. ;)

If you had a computer that could run Amnesia, why wouldn't you just upgrade the PSU and the Video card for probably less than what a console would cost? Then you'd be able to play all the PC exclusives which is more than the consoles have.

When I built my first PC a month ago, it gave me a sense of empowerment.

No longer was I just some consumer victim subject to whatever MS/Sony/HP gave me. It was usually substandard hardware.

I was so excited to play something on a machine I built with my own two hands. I was giddy. :D

I can only recommend one thing to you, man. Actually build one and see what it's like. Running crazy high-texture mods on most cross-platform games with 8x AA, throwing it into 1080p, then getting FPS at 60+. There is absolutely nothing like it. My consoles are collecting dust ATM and it's likely to stay that way.

PC are like consoles nowadays anyway, they hook right into your HDTV like a console but have more freedom.

I will repost the last part of the OP I'm talking about:

"The problem is some people here might claim this accessibility does sort of defeat the purpose of building a rig. Some might even claim that this accessibility is a weakness because if you already have a laptop for work/school, getting a console would be the best choice because you would have access to console exclusives and multiplats and a good amount of great indie/blizzard PC exclusives as well. Anyways, I don't know what to think of this last part."

this should clear the misunderstanding, they are hating because they are claiming PC is perhaps not that great of a deal in terms of exclusive games.

I was praising PC gaming by pointing out one of its positive aspects. I also said haters of PC gaming might try to downplay this as a negative aspect when it is actually a good thing. Espada inquired about this and I replied by explaining things further. Then you came in and asking me something about upgrades.... thats pretty much how things went down. How am I making stuff up when all I'm saying is there might be some haters out there claiming PC gaming is not that great of a value?

Well to these hypotetical haters that are not present in this thread i would say for them to try to play Starcraft II competitively on their old home PC with 15 fps and low resolution, and laugh at the results.

Cheap laptops and old home computers aren't even good enough to play games from last gen, let alone this gen.

Unless you want to limit your PC gaming experience to small indie games and point and click adventures.

I know who the TC is, and I know his tipical trolling on the PC.

But he's not entirley wrong. And I do think this is a strength of PC gaming. There's a lot of range in PC titles. Enough that ANYONE cna be a PC gamer.

Enough that MOST gamers ARE PC gamers.

There was a study a year back where they asked respondents who self-identified as primarily console gamers how much time they spent playing PC games, and on average console gamers said they spent more time playing PC games than console games :)

Also Sims 3 actually requires a discreet graphics card. It cna run on a low end GPU, but not an integrated GPU chip. And the console version is a pale shadow of the PC version. It's like am unholy mix of Sims 2 and Sims 3. The whole point of Sims 3 on PC is the open world that continues to evolve with you. THAT'S the big change from 2 to 3. And that's entirely missing form the console version.

The negative aspect of being a PC enthusiest is the money involved.

Sure you can go to best buy and purchase an HP desktop and toss a video card in it and run games at the same level or higher level than consoles, it's doable.

However for enthusiests it is expensive. But it's not just about gaming, if it were I'm sure all of us would tell you we'd rather just buy a console. Being involved with the PC is more of a hobby, tinkering with different parts, setups, overclocking etc. Yes it can be expensive, but like any hobby if its something you enjoy, paying for it is acceptable.

For those who come onto system wars and just bash the price don't understand the enjoyment we receive from building our own pc, they only see the dollar signs.

He says it himself in his own troll threads, and is passing them off as "they". Laptops selling more than PCs... big deal. Desktop is where the most potential is met regaurdless of what scrub already has a laptop. I have a laptop and a desktop, and no im not rich. I just didnt waste an incredible ammount of money on a laptop that will always do an inferior job, only last a few hours on the go and ultimatly feel like a cheaper experiance than consoles. Bragging about laptops selling more means nothing.

i'lll even say its a better experience on PC...by a long shot.

Bunj84

The console version is a complete waste of time compared to PC.

the sims is a complete waste of time on any platform.

It's not like you learn something useful when you play other games.

All video games can be considered a waste of time but then again pretty much regardless of what we do its not like anyone will remember us in 500 years.

ironically, the best part of pc gaming for me was building my pc. it was just so dam fun finding all the different parts I wanted, then putting it together. :) what a rush. i don't however game much on it at all, I spend 99% of my playtime on consoles. I just prefer them. but I've found other good uses for its power that my old cruddy pc couldn't do :P I will never ever buy a pre built again, you're losing money and you lose out on the experience of building your own.

Birdy09

Who is hating? Who said this? Who are you referring to? It sounds like you're just making up stuff.

Bragging about laptops selling more means nothing.

the haters might not be here but trust me, they are out there, they are always out there, and I'm not one of them.

You don't have to buy a new console every year either.

The best thing about PC gaming is that it's not on consoles.

Alfredoo!! A post of your I completely agree with. The barrier to entry for certain PC games is actually really really low.

Most SWers with a cheap vid card upgrade could be playing *most* PC games.

Agree. Minecraft is another great example of a great PC game that doesn't require a gaming rig. I wish more console-only gamers would try out some of these great pc exclusives.

The best part about PC gaming is mods, look what i did with mods :) all played with a PS3 Controller with working six-axis

nitrous, hydraulics, neons, drift mode, manual

telekenisis, superman mode, devil mode

lcpd police mod (amazing!)

matrix mode, 55 custom weapons, all cars replaced with 60+ extra vehicles. Some vehicles have hq interiors with dashboard camera

weather mod, hd textures, etc

too many mods to list :P
