The big problem with this gen

The 360 - is cheap, has better versions of multiplatform titles, has an amazing download service, has a better joypad, has quite a few defacto exclusives as a result of being released a year early.
The PS3 - is more versatile, has free online, is BC with PS1/PS2 games, has better first/second party and KB/M support.

Looking at the games coming out on only one console this year the picture is similar. I am REALLY anticipating Ninja Gaiden 2, Geow, Halo Chronicles, Infinite Undiscovery, tales of Vesparia and Alan Wake. I'm also anticipating Little Big Planet, White Knight chronicles, Valkyria Chronicles, Resistance 2 and MGS4. Fable 2, Too Human, Infamous, Killzone 2, Metal Gear Online, Banjo 3 and Halo Wars might be OK as well.

It's a tough time to be a gamer

But to the poster, multiplatforms do not all look better on X360 and the PS3 is not backwards compatible if you buy a current PS3.

It's the perfect "second console" but as an alternative to the 360 or PS3 it sucks

lie is such a strong word. If the infomation has changed just say that's wrong....technically for it to be a LIE I have to know the information to be wrong. did Sony change it recently? They said all current 40 gig PS3's are not BC. Did some kind of software release because at first Sony stated it could not be upgraded to BC.

For someone with games not being their main hobby you sure did put a lot of time in to Guild Wars.

The problem with the gen to me is easy to identify.

Handhelds = Japanese Dominated type games

Consoles = Western Dominated type games.

Japanese devs need to step it up with their console efforts. Aside from Nintendo I feel like I'm playing on two different xbox's from last gen.

well, if you hate the wii, then the problem with this gen is that the wii will be the dominant console. There will be no mega budget games announced anytime soon. Last gen, sales proved that there was plenty of room for a newer console that was more expensive to develop for, but none of the current high end consoles are in the position that the ps2 was in last gen, so all that is put into question.

Me personally, I like the wii so I dont really mind, but I can't deny that there is a lot less room for investment for a game on the wii.

The problem with the gen to me is easy to identify.

I don't like japanese games....At least new ones and by new I mean 3D. But I agree they are very focused on handhelds.

The only BIG problem with this gen is that Mother 3 is STILL Japanese only. Hopefully the Starmen seige will be sucessful.

On topic. I have a PC, 360, and Wii. My 360 was my main console there for a while, but the Wii with SMG and Brawl, not to mention the games I haven't gotten yet ( No More Heros and Fire Emblem) plus with Mario Kart around the corner, the Wii has easily become my primary console yet again.

Agreed. I wish I hated the PS3, 360, or Wii. Dang "reasonableness". If I were a fanboy, I would have more $$$$. :cry:

The reason it is a problem is because a lot of people only want one main console. There's a few reasons for this , including but not limited to

• Most good games on both systems are multiplatform. If you double dip you're doing it for exclusives (which are in the minority)
• 2 consoles fragments your online experience. You need 2 sets of friends, XBox live fiends and PSN friends
• Both consoles are fairly expensive. You add in the price of controllers, cables, joysticks, play + charge kits etc you're pauing a lot. Paying twice as much for a handful of exclusives isn't an option for most people
• A Lot of people only want one console under their TV

If you wanted a console last gen you bought a PS2. It was really the only choice and it excelled in every are. It dominated sales and developer support. From a consumer's point of view it was simple, this gen is complicated if you have to choose one consol.

A good second console? Honestly this baffles me. There is a 360, Wii, and PS2 in my house (me and my roomates) and the Wii, yes the "so called secondary console" gets the most use....by far.

If there is anything wrong with this gen its the fact that there seem to be more neurodic fanboys than ever.

There was a news update on gamespot about it. They said it had something to do with cutting the price down (they got rid of the hardware/software that made backwards compatability work). They also got rid of some extra usb and sd slots i think.
