The biggest game of the year reach half million pre-orders.

Nintendo Co. Ltd. on Tuesday said it expects upcoming video games "Pokemon Diamond" and "Pokemon Pearl" for its hand-held DS player to be among the top-selling U.S. games of 2007, based on presales of more than 533,000.

 I think its funny you're comparing a handheld's sales (not to mention a handheld with a monopoly on the industry and a significantly larger userbase, to a game that had no card game or cartoons preceding it and a 21 mil userbase where 1/3 of the owners bought it. Now you tell me, which is more impresive.

First of all, by the stage Halo 2 came out, the Xbox had sold far more then the >10 million that the Xbox 360 has sold. Fact: DS has a far, far, far larger install base then the 360. Fact: Japanese are crazy about pokemon. Fact: Casuals love pokemon, as do many gamers.

I'm pretty sure Pokemon will outsell Halo this year, by a comfortable margin, too. And I'm not just saying that to piss you off.
