[QUOTE="AB_Uppercut"] Thats right, 2008 will be the year the battle will properly take place. PS3 and Wii are relatively new consoles and they need this year for developers to understand them and learn to use them well. The reason 360 is getting more exclusives and better multiplatform titles is because the 360 has been out for well over a year, the developers know the 360's architecture pretty damn well, and its only fair for you to give PS3 the same oppertunity. Heck I'm not implying that we forget about the sales altogether but we don't rush to conclusion this early. 2008 will be the year the PS3 goes to the next level, I guarantee there will be a difference between PS3 and 360 graphics in PS3's favour.
Do you guys really expect that PS3 will sell 10's of millions and gain 100's of exclusives in its first year out :|
I'm betting that the sales difference between PS3 and 360 will be minimal by year end and 2008 is when PS3 PWNS 360.

Yep by then Halo3 would have come and gone,we would have a a Christmas with all consoles on a equal footing and MGS4 and FFXIII hit the PS3.Blu Ray should be well on its way to win the format wars by then as well.
This is awesome. Every other month, the date of the "true beginning of the console war" begins. So now we have to wait till 2008, because Sony couldn't get its act together any quicker? C'mon, the 360 is outselling the PS3 right now, and considering that the PS3 is still new, this shouldn't really be happening (look at the Wii, for example). The argument that by then the PS3 will have games which finally push system sales?
Hmm.
First of all, March was supposed to be the month where that happened. Motorstorm was supposed to be a killer app racing game which showed off the graphical prowess of the PS3, and gave fans a compelling reason to purchase the system, along with Oblivion and a bunch of other games. When this didn't happen, surprisingly the story became "just wait till September, when the PS3 gets like 20 million games!!!"
In response to this quote "Yep by then Halo3 would have come and gone", I think that's being optimistic, at best. Halo 3 is THE biggest-hyped game this generation; hype for the game has been building since Halo 2 came out. To say that in 2008 the "Halo 3 effect" will have died down is extremely unrealistic. Think about it; what game do you think everyone is going to be purchasing as a gift over the holidays? HALO 3. What game is everyone going to be seeing all over the place after the holiday season? HALO 3. Everyone who doesn't have it will want it, so they can play with everyone who does. This is not to knock MGS IV or FF XIII, by any means; both will sell well, and be big hits for the PS3 (whenever they're finally released), but you can't really compare those two games with the game that'll probably be one of the biggest sellers this generation, and possibly the biggest online game as well.
In short (ironically, I know), the console war already began, and to be brutally honest, Sony is lagging behind. While 2008 may bring some change, a lot of what happens in 2008 will be decided by what is already happening this year (what system 3rd parties develop for, what system sells the most, etc.).
