There must have been a game you were really looking forward to right up till the point the devs killed your hype completely with an announcement. Maybe it was tons of day one DLC, or features you expected that weren't going to happen, or you saw the latest screen shots and thought oh dear. Whatever the case, we are here to listen (and probably laugh).

My own heart-wrenching tale involves Everybody's Gone To The Rapture. It sounded like a great change of pace for me, it looked terrific and had a genuinely intriguing premise and promised deep story and heavy atmosphere. Great.

Then I listen to a dev interview and discover it will take five or six hours to finish. Five or six fucking hours, to fucking finish. Right. So the day I buy it I will be done with it. Splendid.

What happened the day your hype died?

When Slender became popular because of Youtube.

FPS and horror are a bland mix now.

Might put the hype in COD then hypa an FPS horror game.

Evolve. It looked like a game I would enjoy, but then the whole DLC thing happened and I refuse to play it.

Tomb Raider is coming back with a new AAA title? Hell freaking yeah!

Tomb Raider rebooting itself into an Uncharted styled TPS heavy QTEfest? Womp freaking Womp.

When FF7 Remake was confirmed to be on PC as well as PS4. I cried for a reason to own a PS4. I still am crying to this day outside of Bloodborne

XCOM 2

I died a little inside when I found out it was PC exclusive. That was easily my most anticipated game announcement of the year.

My PS4 weeps.

I don't do hype.

Hyping yourself up for something you have yet to play creates unrealistic expectations and sets you up for dissapointment.

Hype is for children.

Being excited about a game you are really looking forward to is natural, an involuntary reaction.

Hype is naturally generated you don't artificially create it. Saying hype is for children is basically an admission that you never get excited about anything. You keep your dull life, I'll live with the hype.

The Forest. Was my 3rd most anticipated game until I heard that not only it's going to be on Early Access but the version on Early Access is 0.01. Will take decades to finish... So, right now,,, No interest at all.

Splinter Cell Conviction: Hype was through the roof for many years and we finally got the game after several months of marketing and hype. Didn't impress me at all. It was just OK at best. Never trusted Ubi ever again.

Splinter Cell Double Agent. I went completely mental about it when it was announced. Then there were reviews. And then there was the terrible PC port.

Splinter Cell Conviction. The story went in a direction I didn't like at all.

Being excited for a game is fine i get excited for plenty of games

Hype is different, hype is putting something on a pedastal and creating the illusion that its better than anything else out there with little information on the thing being hyped or without knowing anything at all about it,thats why its childish.

WatchDogs and Destiny are perfect examples.

Questioning my personality because you are too fucking dumb to know the difference between excitement and hype..

HYPE - definintion 1. promote or publicize (a product or idea) intensively, often exaggerating its benefits., hype is basically propaganda, the difference is that being genuinly EXCITED for something is pure and free from outside influences it's personal and hype isn't., but please feel free and continue to give me a personal psych profiling.

Being a pleb as always blue, congrats.

If you get hyped up about something it's something you created not a media creation. If I read that Witcher 4 is coming as an i.e. I am excited and create my own hype it doesn't mean I'm some halfwit that needs to read gaming sites which tell me what to be excited about.

Your ire appears to aimed at gamers when it should be aimed at gaming sites who create artificial hype that is not what we are discussing here we are talking about games WE were excited about that let us down. For us excitement and our own hype for games we really want to play are the same thing.

You call me a pleb, classy, let's not forget you opened by accusing gamers excited about games of being children. You started the aggression, suck it up.

If you want to ignore the definition of the word then thats fine but you are getting bitchy with me because i stated its true meaning?

Hype is not and has never been a personal thing, whether you say it is or not.

Considering hype and excitement are not the same thing sherlock, saying Hype is for children does not mean that i said gamers who get excited about games are children....are you comprehending any of this as you seem to be having trouble with basic english at the moment?

My ire is aimed at gamers? i have no ire, i know you would love to think i do but sorry to dissapoint, now suck it up.

And like i said, stop being a pleb.

I came back at the end of the E3 week to see that NIER 2 was announced.

To put it lightly and highly understated... I was surprised.

Then today I found out it was PS4 exclusive.

My heart almost gave up on life.

The delayed Two Worlds the week of launch. It might have been even sooner but it was delayed several months. I was so ducking hype for that game and to think I would be playing it "this week" only to find a last minute delay. Majorly pissed off.

Hype is not and has never been a personal thing, whether you say it is or not.

Liike i said, stop being a pleb.

In gaming terms from a gamer when we say we are 'hyped' for something it clearly means we are really looking forward to it so we have created our own definition of the term.

You are too fixated on any and every negative connotation related to the word itself to see past it. Maybe you have a really bad life experience related to hype that we all don't understand or maybe you're just an obnoxious twat out to derail a thread because you've had a bad day and from your comments I'm guessing you have a lot of them, joyless and completely devoid of excitement as your existence appears to be.

Regardless you have successfully derailed the thread and transformed it into a discussion about your own personal misery and inability to take pleasure in anything wary as you are about being 'misled' by the terrible hype monster that you know is out to get you.

Its not my fault you used the wrong meaning of the word and i made a statement about HYPE based on its real bloody meaning which you got salty about,if your excited about something then why not just say IM excited anout this!, instead you are giving me shit now because i responded to Phrase or term and accidently took it for its real meaning.....i mean why would i ever do that right?

I did not derail this thread you did by your pissy response to my first post, all because you cant use the englishfucking language properly you darwinian **** wit.

No more derailment at least as i cant bear your drivel anymore.

And please buy a fucking dictionary.

Buy yourself a dictionary and look up the word 'context' so you will understand what the word implies in THIS discussion.

Context does not change the meaning of all words some have only one meaning...if you are hyped for a game you are saying you have let word of mouth, advetising, hyperbole and other outside influences influence your now overblown excitement for a game....if you are looking forward to it solely based on the games merits and because its the kind of thing thats right for you then you are just simply excited for it.

Terribly sorry i didnt get your meaning of it.

And you call me the simpleton?

Mind, Blown.

Anyway it was fun im Towel now......(towel in this context now means going, because i fu**ing said so)

Xbox One is essentially worthless in Japan, and the PS4 is much more popular in the West. You can't expect many Japan made games to make its way to the X1 these days.

Spore. Oh god how I wanted that game to be so good. Then I played it, realized it was nothing but several demos strung together, none of which lived up to Molyneux's promises, and had the DRM destroy my computer.

Ive been bitter against EA ever since.

Last Guardian. Yay something from Team Ico... *plays cricket sounds for five years* ...wait we are still developing it *plays crickets for five more years*... Yeah, I dont care anymore. And it still looks like a bloody PS3 game.

My overall ability to get hyped took a big hit with the Wii U. Since 7th gen was so great, plus I expected some return to glory for Nintendo.

And not just Nintendo, this generation is full of stumbles. I can still get hyped, i've just learned not to expect much.

Hmm, I don't understand why duration is an issue, if the price reflects that duration. (Journey and VoEC were 20 euros at launch, bought both at launch knowing their duration)

I played NIER on 360 (and in Japan there were two different versions, the 360 got "Father Nier" NIER and the PS3 got "Brother Nier" NIER). I was expecting it to at least be on PS4/Xbone and given how PC happy Square Enix has been lately, I was expecting a PC port later down the road.

But nope.

Now I have to consider the prospect of spending $400 for a single game. Which really depresses me.

Xbox One is essentially worthless in Japan, and the PS4 is much more popular in the West. You can't expect many Japan made games to make its way to the X1 these days.

The game was popular here as well.

@Gue1: I'm just a whore for turn based so I always hope we'll get another FFX but XV seems solid now that I've played it

Usually my hype dies when I actually start playing the game in question and realize it sucks. (MGS4 and FFXIII were the biggest offenders ever, taught me a lot about keeping my hype low).

Though I guess the recent Metroid announcement killed my hype pretty quick.

Then there is stuff like TLG. I'm still mildly interested in playing the game, but at one point it was among my most anticipated games.

i dont usually get super hyped and super disappointed. but there have been minor let downs that i can remember

1.dragon age inquisition- was a little let down when i found out main story isnt about grey wardens. and awesome game, but still would have loved to have grey wardens to be the focal point of the story. oh and when it got delayed

2. titanfall - i was all hyped up for this game, then i found out it was never going to come to the ps4 and it had no single player campaign. i had a ps4 already but i didnt have an xb1 . I pre ordered it on xbox 360. Thank god i got an xb1 titanfall bundle as a bday present . gameplay got boring though =/ . i really could have used a single player campaign on this one

3. starwars battlefront 3 - no single play campaign

It would likely be when HL2 came out. HL1 was one of my favorite games of all time, and HL2? well it had so many issues that were not present in the first, that it almost made me give up on it. Never understood those scores it got ^.-

I'd say the reveal of Mario 3D World. I think I was expecting something far more grand. Ironically the game ended up being masterful when I eventually bought it.
