recent trailers I liked better:
Deus Ex : HRhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6JTvzrpBy0
SCII:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_E83GfWM-A
SKYRIM :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPPF9eO5_6U
In the past I liked better: Everything from blizzard, alot of things from Bioware
Awesome trailer. Had me glued to the screen. Some people have been saying they cried/shed a tear...I wouldn't go that far it was good though.

Is it the one when everything goes back in time? Yeah I liked it, but to be frank, I've seen stuff like that too many times already--mostly in music videos.
I hate to be the uncool guy, but seeing a setting about zombies doesn't help either. I have nothing against zombies, hell, I like a lot of works that are centered around that kind of setting; but for me to consider a trailer as one of the best ever, there has to be something else there that makes me think a little beyond the boundaries set by numerous other works. Zombies have been done to death already.

This is why people say this stuff. Sure you have seen it before in music videos or movies and stuff. But never anything this artistic in a videogame trailer. They usually just show pieces of gameplay or stuff like that and hype up the game a lot. But this is extremely effective and any director will tell you the same. Its a very smart trailer. But now I am curious to hear what is the best game trailer in your opinion?
I don't have one, simple as that.
But I have seen trailers that have actually made me much more interested in the product than this one did, and the numbers are too many to name. Some of them, if not most, showed some gameplay at one point or another.
I agree with laus_basic for instance, I actually would prefer the trailers by the new Deus Ex.
Or this

Or hell, even at the risk of being made fun of, this:

And I chose this example as a means to demonstrate how much a trailer based on gameplay alone can interest me more and it did. The first time I saw the Mario Galaxy trailers the game looked genuinely fun, packed with excelent level design.
There is no wrong or right answer here, you talk about its artistic value, I saw little in it in my eyes and have seen this technique used quite a few times before to a point where the trailer held less interest for me, plus the setting. I'm sure some people would downright laugh at me for me picking something such as the Mario Galaxy trailers over something like this trailer, and they're more than entitled to it, in fact I can definitely see why people would think this, just not me and I have my reasons--pretty much stated above.
And sorry guys, it seems like I pretty much hijacked the thread and made its tone a little negative. But there you have it seanmcloughlin, my take on it.
You are entitled to your opinion like everyone else and I am certainly not going to force my opinion down your throat. Too many people do that on this thread. But excellent choice with Shadow of the Colossus because that is and always will be my favourite game of all time. Nothing can top it and the trailer is indeed phenomonal
GLUED! thats how I was too... I think its important to note in this trailer is that there is no emotional connection whatsoever to a back story of these characters. What you see is what you get. period. I think when people throw things like MGS4 and Halo and bla bla bla in to the mix their forgetting the fact that they have already built a back log of perception of what these characters mean to you. Yup, the ME3 trailer blew my socks off... I was jumping up and down, saying "YEAH REAPER B$%^&* SHEPARDS COMIN FOR YA!!!!" but its because my commander shepard is a gun toting BMF. I KNOW that story and those characters. To see something fresh like this with characters ive never met, going from "i dont care" to I completely care about them, and done in this highly artistic and emotional way, to me was something ive not seen from a game trailer. it really blurred the line for me between games and art. I pray the game turns out the same way.Awesome trailer. Had me glued to the screen. Some people have been saying they cried/shed a tear...I wouldn't go that far it was good though.

Wha? I dont even know how you can say that after watching it... especially when you failed to name one better. You need to get out more. If that is the best trailer you have ever seen, you need to watch more then one trailer every 32 years.

This year has been pretty bangin for trailers.
that Killzone3 "Justice" singleplayer trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QdydrzwdM0
The Duke Nukem Forever Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVuuyRGB_BA
Elder Scrolls Skyrim trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzqS1GxdJYQ
and now this trailer.
[QUOTE="madsnakehhh"]ok, my opinion on the dark souls trailer and PLEASE keep in mind IM SPEAKING OF THE TRAILER! It showed a lot of vistas, some sweet gameplay and im pumped to get my hands on it, but it did not evoke any type of emotional response in me, as in, if there wasnt an awesome demons souls game in the world i dont know that i would be as pumped about it. does that make sense... I am excited for the game however!Like i said, i'll take Dark Souls trailer over this one.
Dark Souls
It may not be the most artistic, but it got me excited for the game, Dead Island trailer was amazing, but other than that, the game is not in my radar.

I see where you are going, and yes, it has a lot of feeling, i mean it's an amazing trailer, is just that i don't think is THAT good.
honestly it's a good trailer, but that's all it is.. a trailer for a game I have no clue what the gameplay looks like from developers I have no idea what they've done.
The new X-Men trailer was more impressive to me, and I'm not a Marvel guy... And if you want something game related, the Battlefield 3 trailer was more impressive(and I'm not a FPS guy either)
But hey, if zombies are your thing...
In artistic terms, it's hands down one of the best trailers I've ever seen too... no doubt about it.
BUT the best trailers IMO is and will always be

Actually yeah, this is one of the best game trailers I've ever seen.Although it is pretty cool indeed it isn't THAT good.

Those bashing the trailer for no gameplay obviously aren't looking at this from a cinematic point of view. Some people jsut don't have an eye for things like cinematography and such. I think this video, whether based on a game or not, is absolutely outstanding. I can see why TC is so blown away. I was too.iammasonAgreed, it's better than a lot of movie trailers, especially out of Hollywood(where most of the movies suck anyway).

The whole rewind thing seemed kind of gimmicky is you ask me.
Not sure if its the best trailer ever but certainly the best I can remember for the last few months. Dead Island trailer went of the beaten path, kinda like the Halo 3 diorama trailer did, most trailers follow the strict guidelines: open with title screen, voiceover, action, climatic end, no emotion.

Dude, the BF3 trailer was so freaking amazing. I mean just looking at those graphics, the animations and the destruction i know we are gonna get...I couldnt help but cry! I hope my lappy can handle it :D
this is indeed one of my favorite trailers... I LOVE assassins creed... everything about those games are pure gaming joy to me from story to graphics to gameplay. love it. the dead island trailer is just so damn gripping. people are saying things to the effect of "im done with zombies" but thats the beauty in this trailer, the zombies, emotionally take the back seat in every concievable way.Doesn't beat this trailer imo

I don't get what's so amazing. It's just a zombie attack reversed with some cheesy music being played over it. :? Seriously, we need to invent some new monsters. Vampires, zombies, ghouls... -Yawn-DreamCryotankThere was more to it than that if you pay attention. They kept playing with the footage and tricking you into thinking it was some kind of good time the family was having. Especially right when they rewind to the window crash. It looks like the dad and the kid are smiling and piggybacking. Then it flashes to there being blood and the girl was a zombie. Happens throughout the trailer.
