As Wii trudges through a drought frightfully rememniscent of that of the gamecube (RE4 Wiimake is the only thing I'm playing right now... Still one of the greatest games of ALL TIME but...A last-gen title.), Nintendo sits on top of their old cloud of arrogance. IF PS3 drops it's price, Microsoft may do the same. IF Microsoft drops it's price 50 bucks for the core and premium, Nintendo loses its price competition. Hard-drive and qireless controller or not, 360 has some monster titles, and it's all about the games. The possible resultant 360 price drop would make Nintendo's price advantage seem alot less significant-- and while price was far from the ONLY that that has led to Nintendo's success, it'll start the regaining of ground against Ninty. Hopefully, Nintendo will choose to act and start actually planning to get a stream of decent titles throughout each fiscal year.... because if not, they're taking a step backward while the competition walks forward.

If price is the only thing you're basing this on, you're overlooking one huge fact. Nintendo makes pure profit on every Wii, and therefore could easily afford to match price drops with Sony and Microsoft, and I'm sure they'd do so if they started losing steam.

Eh, it's summer. Very few high end games are ever released in summer. They'll have a pretty good second half schedule though, just as the 360 and PS3 will.

Who are you kidding TC? We've all heard a few of the big games announced for the Wii, and in all honsety, metroid, SSBB, and Mario would keep all the hardcore sheep happy, all the while casuals would continue to eat up the Wii. Sales aren't ever going to slow down for the Wii, if anything they'll increase...because beleive it or not, the casuals buying the Wii like hotcakes aren't interested in buying a 360, no matter how cheap it is...plain and simple. And as far as a "steady stream of games" coming out...Wii is where the money's at, and this E3 will prove it when nintendo shows off a ton of "suprise games" that are also...suprise...not made by the big N at all, but in fact made by big nae 3rd party devs. Wii=won this gen...without question. Sales=dev support=more games=better selection=higher chance of triple A games=console war winner.

You only got one of his points.

I understand his point about the game drought, but it's only going to be a month long. In August we get over 10 games. Gamers don't expect much in July in the first place. In case you didn't notice, most of the recent PS3 released have been 360 ports and last generation remakes.

Here is the problem, all we can talk about nowadays in gaming is "this holiday season" or "this fall". Wii could very much so end up in third place, with only a handful of legendary titleslike its predecessors. As Nintendo is faced with the challenge of satisfying both the casual and the hardcore consumer, they've got to use some of that profit and step things up-- Wii sure ain't no PS2 when it comes to 3rd party support.

Wii isn't a PS2 when it comes to third party support....yet. You have to remember, the Wii took EVERYONE by suprise. NOONE expected the Wii to do this well, and keep momentum going even through the summer drought season. Its crazy, and really doesnt make that much sense, because as a Wii owner i'll be the first to say that there isnt a damn thing to play on it right now. But its simple enough: Sales equal developer support, and devs have been jumping on board for a while now, and E3 is where we'll see what they've been working on for quite some time now. The rushed ports and cash ins will slowly decline in favor of quality, well thought out games that make good use of the controller. But hell...everyone knew that would happen eventually, kind of like when the 360 first came out *GUN cough*....lol

there are two points here. It is garbage that these recent price drops mean a thing to the wii. People will consider buying the wii because it is cheap, but it isn't WHY they buy it. All you people who think price is everything are deluded. The wiimote is the real deal. As for lack of games, I agree. The wii will slump very soon. There just isn't enough ELITE titles. The big 3, no more heroes, disaster, NiGHTs2, and the online Madden 08 couldn't come soon enough

All this is is wishful thinking. If posting this has helped you sleep better that is fine, but as it stands the Wii is pushing into the lead month after month in worldwide sales figures.

You're not the first miss Cleo like analyst who foretold doom for the Wii since launch, and u wont be the last. You can put all your if statements on a .java file and it wont compile, Wii will continue to sell.

But post like these are therapeutic and help die hard sony fanboys sleep well at night, so keep em coming.

First of all Nintendo could easily match any price drops as they are actually making profit (MS might be as well but I'm not sure) and its not just the price theres also the mass appeal, media buzz and (IMO) excellent line-up that the wii has that neither PS3 or 360 do (not saying wii is better just saying that the other two don't appeal to as large an audience).

Launch to August is a pretty huge drought.

And that Launch to August drought matters HOW much again? Whoops not at all it seems, according to sales, well from EVERY COUNTRY. So whats your point? The drought is ending, and the drought had no effect. End of story. You should be worried about the massive damage its about to inflict now that it actually has GAMES coming.

I never understood what good a 360 is without a HDD. It always seemed to me like you're handi-capping the hell out of your self by JUST buying a core.

I don't think 360s price drop will kill Nintendo

There's no way to know what's going to happen down the road, but I do hope you're right because the only way for the industry to keep moving forward is if Sony wins (MS isn't bad, but they have no chance at winning because they can't tap Japan).

And every nextgen console could turn into a magical singing gumdrop and do a tiny, tiny dance.

But I wouldn't hold my breath waiting on either of those.

You (TC) seem to think like the RIAA, by that i mean you assume a non-buyer off a Wii is a buyer of a Xbox 360 or PS3. (The whole RIAA thingy is about how they believe that if people couldn't download stuff illegal then they would buy the records, thus they would sell several billion more cds a year). But that isn't the case, for most Wii buyers its that or nothing. The gamers that i know who use to play games before the Wii all own another console beside the Wii, however, all the new gamers i know, only own a Wii. If there wasn't a Wii, then they wouldn't be gaming at all. And it is these people who are causing the Wii to sell out. When i was waiting in line for my Wii, i felt out of place standing next to abunch of people who didn't look like gamers and from what games they got, i could tell weren't gamers (really, why was that kid buying red steel, i should have stoped him, but i didn't want to leave the line). Anywho i have ranted on long enough, just remember 'gamers' like you and me arn't the reason why the Wii is selling so well.

Did you think this post through?

Nintendo is on a cloud of arrogance because....? They didn't drop the Wii's price when they didn't need to?

Wii is in a Gamecube drought? Are the other consoles also in a Gamecube drought?

You assume Nintendo will never drop the Wii's price? You don't take into account that the Wii has gained so muchmomentum, that all it would need is to stay $50 ahead, just as it is now?

The wii is very VERY cheap to maufacture. People are saying pricing at $249.. is like robbery because Nintendo makes so much profit off of each wii sold. So if MS and Sony see a price drop, you bet your butt Nintendo will easily set the Wii to 199.99. Not to mention SSBB, SMG, and MP3:C will sell many systems. Nintendo depressing releases of childish mini game collections will sell consoles. Soul Calibur Legends, Manhunt 2 (IF IT FRIGGEN COMES OUT!) Dragon's Blade, Final Fantasy and other hardcore games will keep hardcore sheep buying games.

All we can say is the wii is looking good in terms of money money money..getting better in the game department.

Wow, it fascinates me to see how arrogant some people allow them selfs to be, cuz you see even if microsoft drops the 360's price, it waln't affect the wii greatly. People seem to constantly forget that the wii and 360 are completly different. Thats like saying just because apples are 50 cents cheaper, more people will buy them than oranges. People have diffferent taste, and the 360 and wii definently appeal to different crowds, so a price drop on the 360 wouldn't really have much of an effect on wii sales.

if you don't think that the wii will have the lead at the end of the year (baring supply issues) then you're not being realistic.

and with being #1 it'll get ps2 like support. it's only natural.

What a..well just a BAD post. Once again a gamer who doesn't understand the Wii. No price drop of the 360 or PS3 is going to affect the sales of the Wii. People who want the Wii, want just that a Wii. They don't like videogames, they don't play videogames, the 360 and PS# are the reasons why THEY DON'T PLAY VIDEOGAMES. So why on earth would a price drop on a console that doesn't interest them affect the Wii's sales? You can name off every game coming out for the 360 or PS3 but the simple truth is, MS and Sony make games for MS and Sony fans, whereas Nintendo makes games for EVERYONE. So no, Halo isn't going to bite into Wii sales, MGS4 isn't and neither is any other high profile SONY/MS game, or price drop...sorry to bring you inot reality.

I am sure Nintendo is in a position to drop the price of the Wii real soon, especially when their heavy hitter titles get released later this year. All 3 companies will no doubt have a post E3 planto lower the prices of their consoles some time before the holiday season.

[QUOTE="TDLlama"]Ooh... the drought. It ends in August with Metroid Prime 3... not that big of a drought, really.wmc540

Launch to August is a pretty huge drought.

so zelda, paper mario, re4 aren't good games? sure theres a drought but every console has one now and then. mp3,smg,ssbb, and i'm sure some surprise hit will be plenty for most

End of July actually, Mario Strikers ^.^

Mario Strikers sucks. Sega Soccer Slam was way better.

But the Europeans said it was awesome! And it gives us something to play... online!

Then we get Metroid Prime 3, then we get BWii, then comes all the awesome games for winter!

Look, the game is out in Australia and it rocks. The single player isn't that great but the real fun starts online. The ranking system kinda favours people who play more than people who play better but its a great system with rankings.

well alot of people prefer the RPG Paper Marios and wouldn't buy a soccer game (especially one that looks like a wiimote-"enhanced" rehash of the gamecube game) even if it DID have Mario in it. Only so many folks even care about Metroid Prime. Wii need variety, Wii need a stream of decent titles instead of just waiting for Nintendo giants. The only games you fellas could come up with as "drought enders" are first-party titles-- and that's a sign of the old times. Wii need 3rd party support. Hopefully E3 shuts me the **** up, but it may not, and if Nintendo proves that they want to be the most prominent dev on their own system, then we won't get the revolution we were promised.
