Can someone explain to me the appeal of the DS? I owned the DS twice(TWICE!!) and both times I traded it in to buy psp stuff(first time to buy the psp system, the second time to buy psp games lol)!! That's right, psp games...as in better graphics...better sound...ps1 classics....better games period...And now i hear they are making a DS with twice the screen size! they actually wanna amplify this crap they call graphics? No wayyy i am buying a DS for a third time. Fool me once or twice, shame on you, fool me uh..three times, shame on me(something like that lol). And no i am not just flame baiting(well maybe a little), but the DS is an overrated piece of crap and history will prove the psp is a superior handheld.

Maybe the DS is a bit overpriced. But at least it has the support. Look at the PSP! How often do you even get a release? How often is it a quality title? I'd say they're about even. The PSP has much better online/online store, but the DS is more original and has better exclusives. Seriously, we have Mario, Zelda, Starfox, Metroid(kinda). What have you got? Dead or Alive: Paradise? (Ok you got MGS Peacewalker) So in the end, they're even.

Games are more fun. PSP games feel like handheld PS2 games. Handhelds appeal mainly to kids. DS games are better to just pick up and play than PSP games.

I love the DS. Lot's of great games, excellent battery life, easy portability. Graphics and tech have never been my concern as far as handheld gaming is concerned.

You're supposed to actually play games on it. That probably explains why you didn't have any fun. Silly boy.

penumbra13

Thats the thing though. I don't play handhelds like a kid.. I am 31 years old. I play my handheld games at work on my lunch break, on the toilet, at family functions after the meals over, and even just sitting at home. The thing is there are great games on both platforms. PSP has games like crisis core, FF tactics remake, Cla$$ of Heroes, 1/2 min hero, Brave story new traveller, crimson gem saga, Lunar remake, 2 star ocean remakes, Jeane D' Arc, 2 Full PS2 quality GTA games, a ds port of a GTA game, Rock Band Unplugged, 2 Loco Roco Games, 2 Patapon games and 2 Holy invasion of privacy games, 5 Metal Gear games, FF disidia, LBP, GT, AC, Motorstorm, Lumines, 3 Star Wars Battlefronts, P3P, Persona, Disgaea 1 and 2 (which look and have more content then ps2 versions), 3 Castlevania games, Resistance, Killzown, 2 Syphon filter , 7 Tomb raider games, and a crap ton of ps1 games

The Ds for games I like are: SMT: Strange Journey, SMT: Devil Survivor, Dark Spire,Shiren the wander Knights of nightmare, AGe of empires mythology, Civ rev, Eterian Odessey 1 +2, Clash of Heroes, Orcs and Elves, 3 Castlevania games, FF 3 and 4 remakes, Advanced Wars, ffta2 and 3 Dragon Quest games. All the

DS games I like are Console sized games, just like the PSP games that are console sized games. I prefer them. I don't care for Cooking mama, dora the explorer and the countless other junk kid games and shovel ware on the DS. I love the games I listed for the ds, but frankly they would all look and play better on the PSP..

The PSP rocks for graphics and sound and it feels like a SNES controller i love it! It also has pick up and play games the minis and gmaes like Half minute hero, lumines, Pinball Heroes, Creature defense etc..

Bottom line is both have great games (DS has more shovelware though) But If those DS games i like were made on PSP..they would be better. None of the games I own for the DS do I use the stylus...except for nights of the nightmare which actually uses it well, and still remains hardcore.

Obviously you are more concerned about other things beyond the games. The handheld is loaded with many incredible games, not only just from Nintendo but so many others. The thing is bursting at the gills with amazing RPGs and has alot to offer. Also I love when people talk about the appearance of the PSP compared to the DS, and how they are mature gamers and want mature games. Last time I checked gaming wasn't about maturity, it was about fun. If I'm having fun with Elite Beat Agents, I couldn't care less about someone thinking I'm a kid for playing it. Heck I'm almost 24 years old and I'll glad get down on games like Professor Layton and the like. In my eyes, the PSP just can't compete with everything the DS has and it seems like Sony is treating it like a red headed step child with the amount of games it sees a year and how they handled the PSP Go launch. Plus graphics don't make a game, controls and gameplay do. If you can truly sit there and tell me something like Advance Wars would benefit from being on the PSP, I laugh at you. Also I love how the TC's name is pspfanboy6, because this person obviously is coming into the DS with such an open mind.

Because the PSP plays PSone type games, like games that should be played on a console.

The DS plays like it's supposed to, games meant for a handheld, portable.

Yeah even tho the PSP doesnt get a whole lot of support any more, the games it has (and games coming soon) are great. The PSP is great system and I prefer it over a DS anytime. The DS has no games that I want, none of the franchises it has appeal to me, and most of the games on it are the same thing over and over again. I dont understand the people here when they start saying that the PSP is a failure and that SONY should drop it, when it has sold extremely well with great games on it.

Ds sucks. All it did was collect dust for me. I did enjoy one game on it, Professor layton...but if i wanna solve brain teasers, I'd buy a friggin brain teaser book! Phoenix Wright...it was ok, gets boring really quick trying to look for clues and reading text... New Super mario...ok, nothing special...and...that's all the games i remember that were actually decent. and oh yeah, mario kart(even tho the online blows).

The games i have for psp blows ds games away. SORRRRYY i don't wanna play uh, pokemon or..or..princess peach game.

These are the type of games i wanna play:

God of War

FF tactics

FF Crisis Core

Lunar remake

soul calibur

patapon

star wars battlefront

AND...not to mention all ps1 classic games like ffvii, resident evil, metal gear solid, etc

And if you think the psp is a failure lol...psp is the #1 selling hardware in Japan(the 2nd biggest game market in the world). So there will be more great games coming for psp. The DS can look forward to pokemon Platinum super gold edition lolololol

those people are just fanboys or they are mad Sony made a handheld so their gameboy brand has some competition. Nintendo being the only handheld was a monopoly with no m rates games. The psp came out and delivered where the tg-express, gamegear, and neo geo pocket failed. Both systems have great games, especially Atlus games and jrpgs/srpgs. I do like the psore though just because I like analog stick more then touch and the psp 4" widescren is like having a muni HD tv in your hand, with more uses, much higher resolution, better gfx engine and games that rival ps2 games. If the ds games I love were done on psp with the psp OpenGL hardware accelerated engine they would be even better.

You made several mistakes in this post:

a) The PSP is not the #1 selling hardware in Japan. It has actually #2 behind the DS in total sales.

b) Japan is not the 2nd biggest game market in the world. It has since fallen to #3 behind the United Kingdom.

c) The DS is expecting several high-profile games other than the next main Pokemon games (Black and White).

b) You are comparing japan to like 15 countries? why? My point is that Japan is a major player in publishing console games, esp for a system like a psp.

c) Oh..goooood for you.. lol :p

This statement made me go "LOLwut??" The Nintendo DS has, to date, sold approximately 15.8 million units more than the PSP in Japan. World wide, the DS has sold over 71 million more units than the PSP. I'm not saying the PSP is bad... I have a 2000 model myself... but you really shouldn't be posting false information to try to support your fanboyism. Btw, I love pokemon.

You made several mistakes in this post:

a) The PSP is not the #1 selling hardware in Japan. It has actually #2 behind the DS in total sales.

b) Japan is not the 2nd biggest game market in the world. It has since fallen to #3 behind the European Union.

c) The DS is expecting several high-profile games other than the next main Pokemon games (Black and White).

a) yeah thats why i said 'selling' not 'total sold'

b) You are comparing japan to like 15 countries? why? My point is that Japan is a major player in publishing console games, esp for a system like a psp.

c) Oh..goooood for you.. lol :p

If you really want to be a douche about it, look at it this way...

the majority of "fantastic games" on your PSP are ports from the DS, or remakes of games from older systems. When you can come flash a handful of fantastic new IPs for the PSP's lineup, then you can be as much of a jerk as you want. Until then, all you're doing is showing how much of a blind fanboy you are.

Instead of bringing up the European Union (which is an unfair as it is a economical bloc), I will replace it with the United Kingdom that has since replaced Japan as the #2 game market.

DS has a significantly better library than PSP. Also, it's a lot more convenient to carry around. With DS, I don't have to worry about the screen scratching since it folds up nicely, and I can play anywhere because there aren't 3+ minutes of load time like with UMD games. Also, the battery life on PSP is crap, and the game library consists of downgraded ports of console games. Why would I want to play a crappy version of a game I have on my PS3/360?

The PSP don't have some of the greatest games on there. If you were to do a list of the top games this generation with console and handhelds you may see the first PSP game in the top 30 or top 50. Besides PSP dont have Ninja Gaiden

The DS can look forward to pokemon Platinum super gold edition lolololol

ok flame on lol

So you like FF Tactics, yet didn't play FF Tactics A2? First mistake right there bro.
