Let this be a lesson to developers everywhere. Focus on making ONE GOOD GAME FIRST, and if the public decides it wants more they'll let you know.

good. in all honesty.. the sequels need to be terminated and the games should be sold as coasters for 4.99, that way they will be able to recoup costs.

Lair and Haze both cost around 20 million each to make and likely sold more than half a million copies, and were better games than that utter trash Too Human. Both developers closed down due to those bombs. It would only be fair if Silicon Knights closed down as well. It's unbelievable such company would waste 80 million dollars and a decade to produce such worthless trash. John Romero's Ion Storm only wasted 40 million to produce Daikatana, most of which went to building their hugely eccentric paradise studio and overpaid inexperienced staff -- who only made doom and quake MODs before. Makes you wonder if Denis Dyack used most of those 80 million on diamond desks and gold plated walls.

And doubters, believe the 80 million dollars budget. Many industry insiders confirmed it ages ago. Microsoft had to buy up all those first 7 years worth of work (that were funded by other companies including Nintendo) in order to secure the rights, and those are not cheap. Not to mention hiring expensive talents from hollywood.

Rumor has it Sega already ditched Silicon Knights over their unannounced game. Wouldn't blame them.

The only likely reason why Silicon Knights is still alive is because they're feeding off the backs of their Canadian taxpayers (work being funded by their government, much like Uwe Boll's work being funded by Germany).

didn't microsoft said they were going to support the trilogy despite low sales and poor reviews from the fist game?st1ka
It's called PR. They made that statement shortly after the game was released. You expect them to speak honestly on how they're jumping ship so soon? That would've cause them to lose more sales.

Even if Too Human dies, I hope Silicon Knights get out of the situation alright. However, if that estimated budget is real, they is rediculous. That budget could fund like 30 DS games or 10 medium sized games. How can a dev eat that kind of money?ActicEdge
No game company blowing through 80 million dollars -- with tons of missed deadlines -- to produce an utter trash that bombed at retail is going to come out alright. Sega supposedly already bailed out of their funding deal with Silicon Knights over this debacle. Microsoft has been cutting expenses by gutting their first party internal game studios left and right, including successful ones like Ensemble. It would be a travesty and utter stupidity for those studios to be shut down just so another Too Human trash can be made. Too Human must have set the record for the biggest videogame disaster of all time, usurping Shenmue's 70 million dollar budget record (which was received far better and sold more copies than Too Human)

For the record, I actually enjoyed Too Human and feel that it was a flawed but fun 7.0 title. That being said, maybe now They'll get off this norse crap and get to work on Eternal Darkness 2 on Wii with Motion + support.

Only in my dreams. *sigh*

Ugh, I thought I was done having to post this:

While yes, technically Too Human took 10 years/$80-million dollars to develop, the reality is Silicon Knights essentially made 3 different games (the PS1, GC and 360 versions of Too Human) for 3 different publishers (EA, Nintendo and MSGS). Although the name has remained the same, the 360 version is far different from what was planned for either the PS1 or GC versions. So even if we're concervative and say MS footed 50% of the development cost and take into account Silicon Knights couldn't have started working on the 360 version until 2004 (when they ended their contract with Nintendo), what we end up with is a 4 year development cycle (hampered by problems with UE3) with a $40 million budget. Not particularly impressive, but not OMGWTFBBQ-worthy either.

So really, the chances of seeing at least Too Human Part 2 are pretty good. The development is much more straight foreward (no engine problems), they're aware of the problems with Too Human Pt. 1, and sequels are generally cheaper to develop. Certainly a better investment than exclusive DLC.
