@Pray_to_me Its going suck in the next few months for sure
About time they overhauled old clunky animations. Looks great both in third person and first person now. They finally did it. Was a huge challenge for both views to share same animations. .
Someone would have to be a complete moron to think they were never going to improve the animations
This, animations are not a priority when building the core of a game, they can always be done later in development.

"Oh yeah, well, Drake can pick up ammo 350 different ways!"
Awesome progress.
"Yeah! Drake's 200th pick up ammo animation he does it without using his pinky!"
Can we move on away from comparing it to UC4? SC should be pitted against ultra UT, Battlefront, RotTR, and DX.
UC4 isn't even recognized as the top 5 anymore after the last gameplay shots.
Who thinks that aniamtions wouldn't improve? Still a long way to go
this shit is still jank central
Nope, but, it's not possible to have 100% fluidity with SC. Unlike 3rd person games, SC is first person, and has to sync the animations in both views.
And it's not even just that. You can prone, crouch, lean left or right, run, slow run, walk, interact with tons of objects, eva, etc, it's only natural that some animations will jank here and there.
The devs already said that during fps combat sequences, the gameplay takes priority. But for slower scenarios, fluidity is easier.
The animations are as sterile as the art direction. I mean seriously, would it have killed them to hire one guy with a bit of artistic talent? Get a little awesome in there.

make more excuses please.
Nice to see they are finally fixing their animations. Naughty Dog still destroys them in this department though.

Just wish it had as good gfx, for such a small/linear game.
@casharmy: The explanation for the sudden drop down after EVA is that the platform you land on is generating gravity that's a few metres tall. It's why ships stay grounded on the platform and don't float away.
@m3dude1: Show me UC4's animation detail in first person. If your excuse is "it's not a first person game", then lol
@casharmy: lmao. The drop is the exact reason why it's working.
the character and it's animations are transitioning between zero-g and gravity zones perfectly.
But then again Nate flalling it's arms around during a nromal jump in a basic gravity environment is more impressive
Looks like shit. No seriously. 4+ years, $100,000,000+, infinite PC power and this joke of an animation display is all they have to show? Lol at blaming it on teh "space physics". Can't help but feel a little bit embarrassed for the Hermits that are proud to show this off, like toddlers who smear their feces all over the wall and proudly show their parents their new masterpiece. Sad.

Why does it need to? The whole its the same animations in first and 3rd person view isn't a technical achievement at all. It just means there is a single set of animations that look incredibly stiff to compensate for the first person view. Say what you will about the rest of the game, but UC4's animation system is still more visually impressive, the contextual/procedural animations that interact with the physics and the environment without limitations to make first person work end up being more visually impressive.
That drop down occurs because those landings pads are generating gravity. If you approach them from the top, gravity will pull you down and make you fall. Not bad for a massive multiplayer online universe.
Sorry bro it looks dumb.
Creating gravity wouldn't omit the fact the he's still in 0G 'outer space'! He just wouldn't fall like that in space, period.
Being pulled toward the surface is one thing, but flopping down like you just fell out of a bunk bed as if you were on earth and no other forces are in play is another. Their physics system is completely lacking for a game who's biggest draw is flying ships in space.
Having a graphically impressive setting is one thing, but having that setting create an authentic experience while playing is another, graphics aside, that doesn't give good a representation of being in outer space
All you Star Trek nerds will be in heaven. I'm not seeing what is so great about this game. It's basically gonna be a MMO right?
@casharmy:
Why are you even saying sorry, ? No one is asking for your validation lol.
I'm explaining like it is, save your "how space works knowledge" for the NASA guys. It's a game, they are just showcasing tech with that video, it's a tiny portion a online universe to be played with millions of players at the same time. And while you're ditching their physics system you just showcase how inept your knowledge is about how game physics actually work. I could be here all night writing a essay about it but I think a simplified video will do a better job:

there's an actual SP version of it I'm looking forward too. Most space sims have an issue of being a generic sandbox, piled with generic misssions, and a lot of trading. They are basically time syncs with not much going on. This looks like they are putting some effort into a sp campaign for people that don't want to play bounty hunter missions for 40 hours or trade for 40 hours.
obviously this game has the best graphics you have ever seen. I'm just waiting for when it's a full game
Yeah, cool, game just keeps getting better and better given its perpetually in development; however, are they ever going to finish it though?
This game reminds me of that one episode of Malcolm In The Middle where Brian Cranston starts painting his masterpiece but it's never finished snd just keeps adding layer after layer buckets at a time and by the time it is done it falls apart under its own weight, literally.

You seem to be taking what I said personally and have responded with an angry passive aggressive tone and rant and crying about what I do and don't supposedly know. *Sigh*
Grow the F up.
I gave my opinion, I never asked you to agree with me nor for you to "validate" what I was saying. You posted a video about....if, supposed to be, should happen, trying to do, aiming for...to prove, what exactly?
Who's the one looking for validation for something here again? Because it isn't me. Spare me your desperation acting like a clown because someone isn't praising a shItty looking part of a game you're hyped for. If you can't deal with varying opinion of people who aren't emotional fanboys of the crap you hype to the moon then...don't quote those people with you shitty attempts for VALIDATION of your 2bit opinion.
TFOH!
Looks still better than uncharted 4

@casharmy: You are clearly emotional when posting about a matter you have little to no knowledge about. Therefore you overacted into a frenzy of a pre-hormonal post with the obligatory curse words followed by the advice to "grow up". It's cute if you look at it from a psychological sense but unfortunately it also makes you look like a douche.
When "Star Citizen" is delivered a broken dishevelled mess, after all the years of Chris Robert's propaganda, PC gamers should definitely apologize.
All you Star Trek nerds will be in heaven. I'm not seeing what is so great about this game. It's basically gonna be a MMO right?
The game isn't for you anyways casuals wouldn't last a minute dogfighting which is probably more complex than any corridor shooter offers

So I take it you haven't ever seen how long it takes to develop a game, let alone rewrite CryEngine and form 4 game studios from scratch at the same time.
They are 2.5-3 years into solid development. They work 24hrs a day thanks to timezone difference between offices. Dev builds can get patched multiple times a day, sometimes multiple times per hour. They are doing things in tech that no game has ever done before. They are making two games, a 20-30hr campaign and an MMO.
Tell us why you think this is slow compared to other games that do far less and take 5-7 years of dev time.
@wis3boi: I really have no solid opinion on it, just that it feels it's been in development for quite a while, but you make good points. Though, I don't have a gaming PC, so not like I have any solid expectations for it. Though, I've come across others in the past that expressed some dismay like they expect it to release sooner. Guess maybe I got a wrong impression.
Though, I do wonder if they haven't bitten off more than they can chew given the level of ambition in what they're trying to accomplish, even a very competent well known studio might be hesitant to take on something of this scale. I imagine just the scope of what this game will offer will mean longer development time, but that's a worry too.
Since this game's announcement, it seems space sims are gaining in popularity so much so even consoles have them to look forward to, Elite Dangerous, Eve Valkyrie, No Man's Sky, Everspace are coming. Maybe that means one of these turns out to captivate the wider market and Star Citizen when it releases suffers as a consequence. Maybe all these other games turn out the junk and/or simply over-saturate the space sim market. Or maybe these other games streamline the sim experience in a more casual manner making sim heavy games more deplorable with casual gamers.
It's not that I truly feel like knocking them on development time, now that we're discussion it, it does make me curious..

Another point to add is that they are full steam ahead for Squadron 42, the campaign, which is understandably hidden from public view because spoilers. The public part of the game, Star Citizen, the MMO, gets features when they are finished being added for SQ42. Naturally FPS guns, one man fighters, etc are the first stuff we see because the campaign revolves around military service and dog-fighting rather than space trucking or exploration/science activities.
In 1-2 months we will have server persistence, alpha currency, more quests, clothing and weapon as well as ship purchases, etc. It's moving at quite a brisk pace this year. CIG has had to not only make a game, but make tools used to make the game. Once you get basics down and have a library of things to use, building with them is a lot faster and easier. Like we only have one gas giant and some of its moons in SC now. Once they get that fleshed out, it's a walk in the park to make more systems (hitting about 100 on launch).
It's gone from horrible to acceptable territory. If hermits wouldn't parade the game around every update as console ownage and wait until the game was finished, people wouldn't have shit on the animations.
I still don't see anything that impressive with the game in any area, but it'll be a respectable game when it's done.
