And it's.....(drum roll please.....)

the....DVD!!!

Neither format (hd dvd or bluray) is really needed, not for a while, in my opinion.

I think majority of the world is fine with regular dvd. I think that HD-DVD appeals more to regular people simply because it has "DVD" in it. You'd be surprised how much familiarity means to a sale.

My tv is far away from my room. And I can't see it that much, so with Hd I'll probably don't need any eye glasses. Oooooo I can imagine it. :)

The truth is that the majority of older people aren't going to want another format change right after they've thrown out their vcrs.....

standard DVD is doing well for me, the other formats won't start becoming mainstream until atleast next year when the price drops further

Agreed to the utmost. DVDs look fine. I'm not among those who need movies to look "ultra high resolution". Especially when the latter involves a great deal of additional cost.

HD formats are too expensive and provide way too little to usurp DVD anytime soon.

I think I'm going to bring back the walkman. Yea, screw the ipod. I'm kickin it old school. As for the format war, I still record using tapes, and I watch most of my movies on tapes. So VHS wins.

I'm glad others agree.

I'm perfectly fine with my dvd player and dvds.

Ill convert when it's needed.

I may get an hd-dvd player for the living room (dad will play for it :D ) but it doesn't bother me that my house is getting one, but it certinally not needed.

DVD is doing just fine, and that's cool with me

is it just me, or do the blu ray and hddvd boxes suck?

HD-DVD & Blu-ray cases >>>>>>>>>>>> every single DVD case

I'll team up with any Blu-ray fanboy on that arguement

I can replace DVD with VHS and HD-DVD or Blu-ray with DVD in your post, and boom it's like we're back in the past

VHS is just dying worldwide so DVD is far from dead.

Steven Seagal still makes money and makes his budgets back on unknown foreign movies to us through VHS rentals alone worldwide believe it or not.

haha when I go to best buy or where ever, I just think the regular dvd's stack better.  I like the color differeance and how they are trying to change it up, but the rounded edges just don't do it for me.

I feel the same. Jean Claude Van Damme has the same thing to just off rentals alone from VHS.

van dame, segal, and chuck noris, should all make a buddy movie.

Do you realize what type of epic reaction that would make? What ever format they chose to put it on would win.

So much kick assery...People would cry and their eyes would explode.

I love how everyone who doesnt have an HDTV just automatically thinks that HD format movies is unnecessary because they cant use them.  Grow up . . . some people like this stuff, and just because you don't use it doesm't mean its stupid or unnecessary like your thread.

Why are people so ignorant, they really can't fathom that DVD is getting replaced in the next couple of years but at the same time it isn't going to die overnight. Blu-Ray is the next optical format, it will pass DVD in 2-3 years, stop with this DVD IZ teh Winn3r Crap!
