It is not something I think about. How long now has online gaming existed? I have never encountered a situation where I wanted to play a game online and the servers were disabled.

Usually support is ceased when a game loses popularity, any company who stops server support for paying customers for a very popular game is going to get a backlash from customers. I have yet to see this happen even once so far....not for a game I played anyways.
