The man had to cheer himself up.

Saying that the plebs themselves help facilitate microtransactions, loot boxes, pre-order dlc... etc.. etc.. etc... So I guess **** them? Haha bozos?

Bungie CEO Pete Parsons reportedly spent over $2.3M buying classic cars after the Sony acquisition This was uncovered the same day he made a statement saying they laid off 220 employees because the company has been dealing with 'financial challenges'

I always think back of Tripwire, their CEO shared the wealth (from the succes of games like RO 2 or Killing Floor 2) with his employees. They all got to buy new houses and new cars, not just the guy up top.

Then the internet came after him because he said something about abortion being baby murder and against his religious POV, which is his goddamn right. In a democracy every voice should be heard, meanwhile on the internet we just bully away every voice we don't like.

And he had to step down.

It's a dog eat dog world.

... Watch this, now he's gonna say: "Sometimes I have to make hard decisions that frankly are not decisions I love," he explained, "but decisions that somebody needs to go make."

A lot is geared towards the supreme goal of making money, not compelling games.... The phase of calling the hobby Art may be over.

Sony bought a real whale on this one... But not the kind of whale they were hoping for.

@R4gn4r0k: Bullying on the Internet isn't new. We have a whole section pushing cancel culture for games considered "woke".

Anyway, live service games are a gold mind and some developers want a piece of that money making pie. They tend to be the shittiest folks leading game dev.

Bullying is ok if the person is weak and you can get away with it.

That company has been a shitshow since the launch of the original Destiny, and when they left Activision, it became extra shitshow.

thats bad, but still only enough to pay what, 20-25 employees for a year? Maybe a few more depending on their role? obviously a bad look but wouldn't have made a truly meaningful difference to their financial situation with a company of that size.

When you sell your company you get money, that's one of the incentives to do that, otherwise no company would ever get bought out.

The gaming industry is big enough for larger companies to be attracted to the market and try to get involved. Larger companies usually won't start projects internally but want to get into something that already seems to be going in the right direction, or that can complement their other assets and goals, and that's why they will strategically buy out smaller companies.

People get into business to make money, news at 11.

I don't think that's fair, when I see "woke" games called out it's normally along the lines of "don't buy this woke trash" etc. which is fair enough it's an opinion it's a product in the market place, that's not cancel culture in my view, Cancel culture would be same scenario but campaigning to prevent the release of the title in and of itself, then it's cancel culture, you might be thinking of something particular but just my POV I see a lot of "don't buy for (insert reason here)" rather than "this game shouldn't be released (insert reason here)."

Tell me you're a shitty person without telling me you're a shitty person.

Look, I don't begrudge anyone buying a nice car that has the money to do so. I consider it a waste of money, personally, but you do you.

But to do this immediately after, or while in the process of, laying off your team just looks bad. And never mind if it looks bad, the simple fact is a lot of those people could have been retained with that wealth.

You know what the difference is between $2.3 million and a $60,000 salary? About $2.2 million.

I suppose the counter-argument is that 220 employees is a lot more than $2.3 million and therefore the whole thing is being blown out of proportion, but then you sort of have to wonder if he got paid that $2.3 million just by firing those people, in which case that makes him a shitty person.

If this guy ever leaves Bungie he would probably start a new Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for his next game project. Poor guy.
