Bioshock Infinite- 95 Metacitic and hailed as a game that trancseneds the medium and developers in teh future will look to this as a turning point for the medium
Spec Ops: The Line- 76 Metacritic and has almost no recognition
Â
Â
Why does one game get hailed as one of the best games ever made if a game that came out a year before and did every thing Infinite did and did them very well. Without even arguing too strongly about thequality of one of the other I wouldnt say one pulls away from the other in quality in any of the categorys I listed yet one is way higher regarded by everyone. Why is this? Its purely the greedy media who was payed off and hype. They influence consumers with this crap and it only hurts the industry.

Well, might as well join him, Infinite is the first PC game I ever bought that's broken to the level of unplayability, witn no way to fix it, and the worst thing is, I bought it at full price... one of these days, should try to get a refund from Steam... there's some material on Irrational forums that could be used as a fairly convincing argument.
because infinite is actually a great game and altough spec ops deserved a bit more recognition is nowhere near.

What makes Infinite better than Spec Ops?
The problem with gaming journalism is that people get employed based on how long they can stay confined to their basements and not on actual qualifications such as how a write a damn article. And the whole console war doesn't help the situation either. Very few gaming publications are professional imo.

Off topic, but now that I know where your sig is from, I can never look at it the same way...I can imagine Gabranth trying to come up with new ways to "subtly" bash Infinite, all day long every single days.

Gaming "critics" have a big effect on peoples views on the industry wether you realize it or not.
_Judge_Gabranth
That's not the fault of the critics though; it's a fault of the people reading their content (or in many cases not reading it, and just looking at a number)

im too lazy to explain but apparently most people also feel that way. Also i don't need anyone to validate my opinion.
If it ever becomes possible, TC will be the first to marry a video game, and it will be Bioshock Infinite. Calling it.

I wouldn't be surprised. The dumbing down is probably texas, trying to throw people off the trail.

but will it be on par with arbiter and his ps3?
TC, just because you really enjoyed Spec Ops probably more than Bioshock Infinite and that the gaming media doesn't agree with you does not mean it's falling back 10 years. Way to be all dramatic.

i don't care about the hype i played both and have made my own opinion about them, and i don't see any reason why should i explain it to you, you already showed you are increidbly dumb by thinking someone can't like a game you dislike with a random reason like "its the hype". Every post you make you sound more like an alt from texas.
Gaming "critics" have a big effect on peoples views on the industry wether you realize it or not. Their reviews are so blatantly paid off and driven by hype. Lets look at a couple of games that are very similar but due to hype one is regarded much higher than the other. These two games being Spec Ops: The LIne and Bioshock Infinite
Â
Both have mediocre repetitive gamplay
Both focus on atmosphere and a fleshed out world
Both were praised for their challegning themes
Both noted for their story
Bioshock Infinite- 95 Metacitic and hailed as a game that trancseneds the medium and developers in teh future will look to this as a turning point for the medium

Probably because Spec Ops' gameplay was pretty mediocre, whether on purpose or not

I think Bioshock's infinites gameplay is a lot more fun and varied compared to generic gears of war wannabe TPS. Â Spec Ops excels in a great story but that's about it.

It's the mystical thing called........ "opinions"....
Look it up.
It's an opinion bro. On the other hand I do partially agree--not with corruption but with the ratings being out of whack and gamers/reviewers being bias--including myself and you as well. With their standards of 9.0 to Bioshock, 9.5 to Gears of War 3, not quite sure why Spec Ops was given a 6.5. If they wanted to be more accurate on a even leveled scale--Spec Ops would've at least scored an 8 or a 7.5. But again, gamers are bias and so are reviewers, and topping that off with that it's an opinion--it's fair to score any game any number. By the way, I thought Spec Ops sucked hard.

No. Look at Homefront, that game was hyped to hell and back yet got bad reviews from sites and users. In fact i would say hype can lead to worse reviews due to higher expectations.[QUOTE="Rocker6"]

Not the gameplay or anything, the short portion I managed to play is highly enjoyable, I can definitely see why everyone loves the game.
My issue is with the stuttering, an engine flaw that affects almost everyone to a different extent. Some barely experience the issue, some can't play the game without huge repeating stuttering in a lot of the spots. Here's the thread on IG forum about it:
http://forums.2kgames.com/showthread.php?222176-Stuttering-Hitching-Pauses-even-on-high-end-PC-hardware
There are a lot of solution attempts on the Internet, but nothing helps for most of the people, including me. The dev acknowledges the issue and they say they're working on a patch, but a month since the release has passed, and nothing yet. Here's the statement from the developer:
Hello folks,
I want to assure you that Irrational Games is actively working on fixes for this issue and others. In particular, the stuttering/hitching issue been one of my personal priorities for the last week or so.
We've made good progress in improving the problem, but we need to do a lot of testing to make sure that any fixes we consider releasing to our customers don't make things worse or cause new problems. This testing and iteration takes time, so that's why we cannot provide a date right now for when any fix might be released.
Thank you again for your patience!

That was posted 2 weeks ago. I'm running out of patience here, and for the duration, I'm left with a broken game sitting on my account. It sucks, since I really want to play the game, but don't want to tarnish the experience with stuttering and technical issues. Want to play the game, instead of thinking when will the next round of stuttering start.

if it's in the engine, does it effect consoles as well?
if it's in the engine, does it effect consoles as well?
lostrib
Reports say it does, actually. However, if you lock the frame rate to 30 FPS or lower, the stuttering is far less apparent. But if you try to play the game at 60 FPS, it often drops down to 40 for a few seconds, causing the stuttering. There are lots of YT vids with FPS overlays showing the drops, look them up if interested.

Indeed, it makes playing the game a mess... and you don't want a playthrough of a great game like Infinite to be a technical mess.
I use Adaptive VSync, so for me it goes from 60 to 40, and yeah, just as awful. The engine has some invisible loading walls that trigger the stuttering, and every time you walk through one, the shit happens. They're placed all over the levels, often in the middle of combat.

Dude, I liked Spec:Ops the line, but its not as good as Bioshock Infinite.
_Judge_Gabranth
Â
Why?
It's:-longer
-the combat is more varied thanks to weapons, rails and vigors
-the enemies are more vared and more fun to fight against
-Has advancement system
-the story is both better written as well as better told
Columbia is more unique and much more varied setting
-The companion adds new unique mechanics into the game, can't say the same about Spec Ops' buddies
This is why I never buy sp games at release. Patience results in fully patched games at much cheaper prices.Cranler
I tend to do the same... but I was really excited over Infinite, and since the dev said they're paying special attention to the PC version, I expected a working product. After this, I'll be far less trusting about the quality of their products...

Both games have pacing issues so this is a weaknes
Â
-the combat is more varied thanks to weapons, rails and vigors
Guns are generic and boring in both
Rails were a neat idea but you barely get to use themÂ
Vigors didnt really add much
Â
-the enemies are more vared and more fun to fight against
This was a weakness for both games. Infinite had a few special enemies but they almost never show up Crow, Fire, Handyman
Â
-Has advancement system
It doesnt significantly change anything
Â
-the story is both better written as well as better told
Infinites story telling is crap. It has terrible pacing. Nothing happens like 70% of the game then there is a 20 minute cutsecene telling you everything that happened. Also a story as convuluted as Infinite is not well written. I felt like I was supposed to hate Comstock but I dont know why I should. Also Ifinite uses one of the most annoying tactics in games the old princess is in another castle trick. "He get the ship and we are free!" You get attacked. "Hey get the gun smith" He is dead so you have to jump through 10 dimensions. Spec Ops story is not great but it gets the job down.
Â
-Columbia is more unique and much more varied setting
I think Columbia does have some bright spots but as a whole its kinda weak. Its supposed to be this great citybut you spend most the game walking in straight lines. Spec Ops doesnt have the highs Infinite does(Like the begining) but as a whole it is much more consisitant Also Vigors made no sense in that world
Â
-The companion adds new unique mechanics into the game, can't say the same about Spec Ops' buddies
The companion wasnt that great
Â
Â
I am not saying Spec Ops should be called the greatest game ever cause Infinite is. The point is why is one rated so highly over another if they are so similar in what they do well and fail
