There is no arguing the fact that a keyboard and mouse are the best input devices for FPS games. What has occured with Halo is now beginning to occur with RTS games for consoles: compromises are to be made. Less options in RTS games and an overalldumbing down of the genre. Same is happening with RPG's too. They are becoming more simple as well.

Auto-aim, increased damage zones, streamlined gameplay, lower online participants in games, smaller game worlds, lower resolutions, less choice, all attributed to the contraints of consoles and theircontrollers. Playing with your thumbs just doesn't cut it.

Don't kid yourselfes: PC>Console for FPS, RTS and RPGgames. Its too bad the Xbox is dragging the PC down.

I like playing fps on xbox and pc but you make a good point

However all of the issues you listed are the fault of half-ass game makers not the console IMO

Uh...the Xbox? Even if your argument is correct, I don't see why 'dumbing down' can be blamed on any one console. Anyway, it is not as if these changes are making their way to the PC. Consoles are more limited to PC's in certain aspects, so it is a given some things will be different.

There is a sudden stench of denial. The above is FACT and has been proven. Go find the links for yourself, I won't do your homework for you.

Conversely, racing, fighting and platformers are superior using a controller. That is FACT too.

I primarily target the Xbox based on the observation of its game line up and the games that MS has coerced onto the platform. No doubt the Xbox shares the same games traditionally found on PC.

How does the PC limit consoles?

It shows off its obvious superiority and thus dulls what would otherwise be an amazing console experience ;).

I upgraded my PC over 5 months ago. It contains 8800GTX, 680i mobo, Core Duo E6600 (overclocked to 3Ghz), 3 Gigs 6400DDR2, 300Gb SATA, etc.

With your 6 month upgrade cycle, I'd have to upgrade this rig in one month. The fact is, this computer will maintain high performance for at least 3 years but probably much longer.

Whens the last time you upgraded ? Ive had this PC since around 2000,or 2001.Ive upgraded twice. One for a 6600gt video card a year and some months ago and another 512 ram around the same time. Im still able to play games that come out recently at atleast medium.

The thing your using could be a $250 dell powerhouse from walmart.

You make a good point but be prepared to be flamed for using Halo CE as an example.

Remember too many its just a average game. To many who played the game like myself around the launch period know how special it actually was.

hermits are so irritating

many console games have many more features than some pc games (halo 3 saved films, matchmaking etc) Please.

lower resolutions?cos 1080p is horribly low No, it is midrange today. Low tomorrow.

isnt streamlined gameplay a good thing Streamlined in this topic = compromised to function on lesser hardware

since when have games been shrunk when being ported from pc to xbox Any game on both platforms are technically more advanced on the PC and have the potential for being better if designed for the PC. Take, for example, Thief III. Its levels are tiny compared to Thief I and II. Limiting factor: Xbox. The game was streamlined to fit the contraints and limitations of Xbox.

The points you make are all valid and fair. The only thing I'll say is that while auto aim, increased damage zones, streamlined gameplay, lower online participants etc. are seen in a negative way by you, a lot of other people seem to like these features. Halo 1+2 are extremely popular and people don't play these games unless they enjoy them. Maybe some gamers out there prefer having auto aim, maybe they prefer streamlined gameplay, and smaller game worlds. Let these people enjoy these games if they want to, there are still PC games being made that cater to your particular needs (Crysis, Starcraft II etc.)

Yeah the Xbox has been leeching off PC for years and dumbed it down severely. Prettymuch ruined every franchise that has gone multiplat. I mean Rainbow6 and Ghost Recon actually used to be really deep tactical squad based shooters. And Oblivion's interface proved where that game was aimed to be.

Christ ruining a couple shooter franchises is one thing but dumbing down RTS to work with a controller is just horrible. Like I could not even imagine if Blizzard ruined Starcraft2 to the point where you could play it with a controller. That would really signal the end of PC gaming and hardcore gaming in general.

You're wrong about Halo though. Halo:CE proved you could do a deep shooter with a gamepad. Halo2 proved that the aim of Xbox is to dumb everything down.

I personally can't find the dumbing down of FPS franchises palattable. Microsoft's hardware intrusion into gaming has brought the advancement of PC gaming, and as a result, gaming overall, to an almost complete standstill. Look at the quality and advances of gaming from mid 90's to 2001. Look at the advances in games from 2001 to 2007. It is no coincidence that the Xbox was released during that time-frame. The Xbox has performed no favors to PC gaming. Not one benefit.

So what this is is just one huge post secretly bashing Halo, is it not? Well, Halo 2 won MP GOTY over UT2K4, so "streamlining" the gameplay doesnt mean anything

Why did you ignore the 2 posts directed to you? If you can't answer them, then leave this thread.

Otherwise, I agree that console gaming has dumbed everything down for PCs. Look at Thief, Deus Ex, R6, GR, Oblivion, possibly even fallout. And PCs excel in every platform except for Fighting. We have the mst realistic simulators like rfactor, GTR, FS X, etc.

Don't kid yourself, your logic is awful. It is not a necessary correlation that the "compromises" to a console (360) will drag down PCs. I am not even sure why you bothered to post this. Consoles reach an audience that PCs don't. If you have both a PC and a console, then you are even less affected. Thanks for playing.

Right any evidence of updating every 6 months manditory....? Nope

Evidence of getting an affordible PC last 3 years of perfect gaming. True.

There are so mand PC price debunk threads - even in 'caseys guide' its not even worth going to the effort of listing parts.

And at least PC gamers get the most AAA, AA, A exclusives every year, and the top console games, while console gamers get various watered down ports - or spinoffs.

It will be running games at settings that are above console's graphics in 3 years.....see Doom3 and Half-Life2. They looked like absolute crap on consoles and had the advantage of running at low resolutions to bump up things like textures and lighting. This is what people fail to realize.

yeah.... updating a computer every 6 freakin months to play games that have been released on console rocks! Pass. omgimba

That is so far from the truth and has been dispelled so many times.

Dispell it again please..... cause believe me.... this thing im using wont be playing crysis anytime soon

The fact is, this computer will maintain high performance for at least 3 years but probably much longer.

more like 2 years... dream on that it will hold up very well in more then 3 years...

That rig will play console multiplats at 720p till the end of the gen probably. You forget that last year all consoles output games at 480i. Most graphics cards( even low end ones) could play pretty muchall console multiplats at that res.

8800gtx's allready can play all games maxed out at above 1080p, and can play crysis maxed no probs and crysis looks better than anything shown on any of the consoles in terms of graphics/technology.

Yes he will have to upgrade to play the latest and greatest PC has to offer, but thats because it will look 10x better than anything the console will be putting out in 2/3 years time.

You make a good point but be prepared to be flamed for using Halo CE as an example.

Remember too many its just a average game. To many who played the game like myself around the launch period know how special it actually was.

WhySoCry

That game rivalled Mario 64 in the awesome feeling I had when I played it

I think Halo CE (when played on PC), provided me with one of the best FPS experiences. I enjoyed Halo CE more than Half Life 2.

Im one of the few people who would agree with that actually

Otherwise, I agree that console gaming has dumbed everything down for PCs. Look at Thief, Deus Ex, R6, GR, Oblivion, possibly even fallout. And PCs excel in every platform except for Fighting. We have the mst realistic simulators like rfactor, GTR, FS X, etc.

how do u know they were dumbed down b/c of the 360?... ohh wait u don't and u are making things up.. and the saddest part is u completely believe everything u make up....

If you don't believe that consoles have lead to the dumbing down of games like Dues Ex, Thief, R6, GR, and Oblivion, your kidding yourself.

first of all who decides whats "dumbed down"? and i see you put oblivion on that list... thats funny b/c the elder scrolls was also on the xbox... so it's only dumbed down when it's convenient..... like i said u have nothing to base it on...

The hugest and most horrible example of this is the transition from Deus Ex to Deus Ex: Invisible War. My favourite single player game ever was mutaliated so it could run on the XBox. They took out every feature, even ammo...
