the hate for the 3DS is strong lately

I'm hearing alot of cries about it "being a failure with no good games!", or "it's gonna be the next virtual boy!!!1". Granted the launch lineup sucks, that much I'll agree with, but let's clear two things up

1. Library

Alot of people seems to be drawing comparisons to the wii....but really..Has a Nintendo handheld ever gotten bad third party support? Unlike Nintendo Consoles, third party developers actually give a damn about their handhelds. Hell, we're already seeing this a bit with the 3ds.

For instance:

-the 3ds get's it's own version of Street fighter 4 while the wii got jack.

-The 3ds is getting it's own proper resident evil while the wii got 2 lame rail shooters.

Pair a healthy amount of good third party games with Nintendo's own first party titles like Super Mario 3ds, Kid Icarus, Mario kart, etc. and we got the makings for a potentially awesome library. Anyone who thinks that the library is going to stay horrible like it is now is simply kidding themselves.

2. Sales

Another think to keep in mind is that the original DS launched during the holiday season while the 3DS launched during the spring. Even though it didn't meet the sales projections, it still managed to outsell the DS's launch numbers. And this is with a launch lineup that only has two worth buying games. Imagine when the good games start rolling in.

Hell the fact that it already sold millions more the the virtual boy completely destroys thats argument.

Now, I'll agree that it really isn't worth buying now. The launch lineup is horrible and the only good games comming out in the next few months are Resident evil: Mercenaries and OOT. That being said I can definitely see it picking up this holiday season.

People are always quick to say what's going to die and what isn't. Remember in 2006 when the PS3 was apparently going to die? That prediction went well. :roll:

I find it really interesting that the hate went up recently, heck the haters aren't even trying anymore. Are the cows are just so piss that PSN is down that they are bored and want to bash something for the heck of it?:PAnyway the 3DS is going to be picking up pretty soon so that should come up with some ownage.

The 3DS has a great future but I'm still not sold yet on the 3D though.

I think it's a dumb handheld and I really don't care for the 3D.

That being said... 3DS will be around for awhile. Might as well accept it.

Only thing I really see anybody complaining about when it comes to the 3DS is the 3d causing headaches and/or dizziness. And that's actualy a big concern for me. If any one of the four members of my family have this problem with it, then nobody in my family will be getting one and instead we will all end up getting the NGP.

You forgot to address the headaches and dizzyness and that apparently you have to hold the 3DS in a specific way otherwise you completely lose the effect. Also that it kills babies. Though in all seriousness, the hate is funny.Haziqonfire

Sony did come up with improved batteries/accu halfway the PSP's lifespan. Adding about +50% capacity. Sony is actively increasing battery life and downlocking the CPU (like from 333 mHz max. to 266 mHz). They are aware of battery issues so I'm guessing the NGP will go the digital route to remove a powerhog like UMD. Small fixes that probably will amount to a managable battery life. I know that with questing for Monster Hunter, dubbed Freedom Unite in the US, we'd need a charger regardless.

The only criticism that makes sense is the library thus far, which is rather weak. The launch was okay but there was no platform seller available since day one. The price is decent enough for the market, I think -- as the thing still sold 3.6 million units in one month.. and will continue to sell at a decent rate once more software comes out, going into post-E3 and going into the holiday season.

Nintendo did not do enough to differentiate the 3DS from the other DS platforms. A lot of people think it's another iteration, when it is not. However, I did not expect them to have their marketing blitz now, rather, I expect it to come full force during the holiday season -- when it really matters. A lot of the complaints are overblown, I don't care if I come off as a fanboy, because those complaints just are overblown.

The battery is not terrible, the effect is not pseudo 3D, you can move the 3DS around for games like Face Raiders without losing the 3D effect, it does not cause [at least for me and others I know who have one since launch] eyestrain or dizzyness.

So yes, the launch line up could've been better, the current library leaves little incentive to buy a 3DS right now and there are too many ports being announced for the platform [including Nintendo] - Though come E3 we'll probably get concrete release dates for new titles like Paper Mario, Super Mario 3DS, Mario Kart 3DS, Kid Icarus Uprising, etc.

The hate really is for 2 reasons

1: launch lineup = fail. True for most games systems, but still never justified. Nintendo should have had atleast 1 gem.

2: 3D. 3D on SW & OT = CORP. ***** THAT NEEDS TO BE PURGED!!!. The hate and out right attack on this technology is quite strong and bloody(and mostly unjustified) Sure it's expensive and flawed now, but all new tech is, look at color tv or HD.

Many people on GS forums must have flawed vision and don't want to be left out.:P

Though this time around, I'm not exactly seeing parents with children, soccer moms, grandparents and hipsters lining up to smack down $350 for a handheld that's barely distinguisable from the DS...those 4 million something were the early adopters that will eat up anything Nintendo dishes out. The DS was cheap and ideal for small children...now it's $350 it's not exactly a present to get for your kids. Might have to sell a kidney to put bread on the table in these times of financial crisis youknow. 3DS will go down the same road as PS3 did...

I own both a DS and PSP.

So I guess I am having a love-hate feeling with the 3DS? Indifference maybe?

That's the perception, unfortunately. The reality is that it's one of the strongest launch line-ups in years. I really don't know what people were expecting, but the reviews have been undeservedly low.

The 3D (rather than a good high res screen) is what bothers me (granted I have yet to use it), but I will likely buy one before too long anyway, cause I cannot resist OoT, Paper Mario, Mario kart, Mario platformer, and more.

I made the assumption because some of the hate that's coming on to the 3DS is the same hate the PSP got.
