Missed out on a lot of key games in history (Halo, Super Mario Bros, Doom, Ocarina of Time, Mortal Kombat, Grand Theft Auto III just to name a few). Not really that good if you ask me.

If we go by that then about 99% of ps3 games can't be mentoned in the same sentence now can't they?

99% of PS3 games are generic shooters that have been done YEARS on PC before?

Halo was easily as big a landmark as any of those other games. Console FPSs and online gaming on Xbox Live and PSN probably would not be the same today without it.

Halo... ... For real? There is NOTHING new or ground breaking with halo. Have you played any of the FPS games that shaped the FPS market? Clearly not... Because Halo sure is not one of them.

A lot of online FPS have adopted it since Halo introduced it. And also:

"Microsoft's Xbox Live service popularised matchmaking for console multiplayer games, with its flagship Halo 2 title being the first to use a ranking system and a variety of playlists. Other major games have gone on to adopt this approach, and it is now the most popular method of arranging online games on consoles."

I'm no Nintendo fanboy but even I know when I played SMB2 and SMB3 how ahead it's times the games were...and still are enjoyable to this date.
Same as with Doom and GTAIII...and to a lesser extent MK. I haven't played OoT but I'm sure it's easily one of the best. But Halo?
What did Halo do to be original? .... *crickets* Halo doesn't even deserve a mention when there are games like Half Life out there.

Sorry but only a plank of wood is so foolish that it cannot recognize the fact that Halo: Combat Evolved revolutionize console FPS with quick buttons for grenade and melee, rechargable shields, control scheme and so on.

Hell, I don't even like Halo: Combat Evolved in the first place. Yet I can see how it influnced gaming today.

How about the rechargeable shield?

Halo: Combat Evolved is often credited for the first appearance of regenerating health. However, not only wasn't it the first, but it did not even have regenerating health. Halo featured a traditional health system, as it was the player's shields that regenerated. Subsequent games in the series, starting with Halo 2, added true regenerating health, although the original system made a return appearance in Halo 3: ODST and continued on in Halo: Reach.

In truth, this popular method of health control appeared long before Halo. The 1992 first-person shooter Faceball 2000 for SNES and Sega Genesis had it. It also was used in the relatively unpopular comic book game, Wolverine: Adamantium Rage, which was released on the Super Nintendo and the Sega Genesis in 1994.

yeah, i'm not sure how a hacknslash is the best way to show "evolution" of this gen. Maybe an rpg or something would have worked better. Also, everyone knows halo did nothing overly original, it just combined great ideas from all the best games to make it what it was. the games before halo though. Marathon? that was pretty original.

Metal Gear (cinematic), Shadow of the Collossus (artistic), Gran Turismo (first successful sim racer on consoles, why do you think MS has Forza?), Final Fantasy VII... Just to name a few and none of them generic but all considered c l a s s i c s. Halo is nothing when compared to real FPS like Half-Life and such and even less when compared to real c l a s s i c s like Mario and Zelda. All the boom of Halo was thanks to the novelty of online gaming. Now you can play basically play any game online and Halo is not the most popular game any more, Call Duty is right now and you know why? Cus it's all about trends.

Metal Gear is not a Sony franchise and GT is nothing when compared to real racing sims like iRacing. See how easy it is?

Halo was only a landmark for those who didn't play FPS's on PC. All Halo did was bring that experience to the consoles. I thought the games in the video were pretty good choices. I enjoyed every one of those games a great deal. The "Hands" of the video were off on all of the games except Rock Band. I bet I know which game he likes to play.......

I actually enjoyed the video, damn Final Fantasy VII music is awesome, also that little bit of music towards the end reminded me of the Robocop title them for the Gameboy, which I am now listening to. I also think this is a very good video to start a massive and heated system war over previous generations of gaming, because this generations become a boring argument of pretty much sales and Metacritic ratings, unless......

Yeah...the fact that it catapulted console FPSs from obscurity to the dominant genre of video games is what makes it so influential, for better or worse.

Halo was revolutionary. What are you cows talking about? Goldeneye started console FPS, Halo improved it in anyway possible. 10 years later FPS' are the exact same as Halo CE.

How is that the history of gaming? They left out the PC altogether.
