The console market has always been about risks. Despite what Sony may say themselves, releasing a system only slightly more powerful, is as much of a risk as releasing a powerful one. Sony/MS can't release a traditional system that is only slightly more powerful, because they're going to need a selling point.

I personally would not buy a new console if it's just a bit more powerful than my current console.

I don't think MS are going to place all their bets on Kinect for their nextbox, because they know it's limited and only caters to a certain part of the market.

Also both companies will want to have a long life console as well.

So I just don't buy the idea that the next gen consoles won't be much more powerful than the current gen.

Go on to gametrailers and look at smb vids. The first few are previews for it. They have sub 1000 views and most of the comments are people hating on the wii. Then the game switched to 360 and the views jumped up over 100k and had glowing comments, despite being the exact same game.

If smb had stayed on the wii, it wouldn't had been reviewed, no one would had played it, it would have gotten no awards, and it would had been mocked as some unkown trash on wiiware...despite being the EXACT SAME GAME.

Why would anyone buy AC3 for the Wii:U when you have a PS3, 360 and a good PC to play on?

I suppose its good for Ubisoft to bring in some sales from the casual market, but other than that, there is no reason.
Like many, I can wait. Plenty of multiplatform + exclusive games to make a gamer avoid the Wii:U for the time being.
