PC gaming = console gaming.
I'm not part of that club.
Sitting upright at a desk is basically a requirement for me to play games with a high focus on gameplay that need any sort of precision, accuracy, speed, etc. to play.
But when it comes to console games I'm the same way. I sit on my knees 2-3 feet from the TV.
I just don't really play games where I can slump in a sofa 8 feet away, and turn my brain off while playing.
I'm the same way. 100% agreed.
I can play a game casually, but as soon as things heat up, I start to lean forward.
Currently I game in a recliner using a console sized PC (node 202) with Steam Controller and wireless media kb/m when needed. I boot directly to Steam's Big Picture mode as the shell so I never see Windows desktop. I use a 27 inch curved Samsung monitor that's on one of those retractable arms that I can pull closer towards me or I can use my Vive with VorpX if I want a larger screen experience. I use Steele H series wireless HP's. My consoles connect to same monitor.
All my hardware including monitor reside in an armoire so I can just retract the monitor into it, close the doors and not see any of it.
I used to have a bullshit setup like that now I just game on console. No need to stress myself out with all kinds of bullshit peripherals just to play console ports.
Odd considering you can do everything with just a Steam controller if you wanted in the same way you would use a console. Even the way you can utilize both trackpads for the on screen kb is way more efficient than the PS4 or Xbox but I'll use a wireless media one for typing addresses.
i play multiplayer on my desk 1foot away from my monitor. cant play shooters on my 65" tv sitting 8 feet away. cant see them laying on the ground and stuff.
i play single player on the tv though. its a bigger more engaging experience.
btw... i play both from the same position.... my bed is right next to me on my right side. that where i put my mouse on....and as for the keyboard? cant use it. i use one of these. i dont ever need to be hunched over.
I play in front of my TV with a controller when a game does not support 21:9 for some reason, or when it absolutely plays better with a controller.
But most of the games I play are shooters and strategy games, so yeah desk with a comfortable chair all the way !
You play on a 21:9 screen, is that even comfortable? I've never tried it.
You play on a 21:9 screen, is that even comfortable? I've never tried it.
I'd say it's a lot more comfortable for your eyes than 16:9 as your eyes have a wider peripheral vision than 16:9.
But some really lazy ports, as well as really old 2D games don't scale to 21:9, so I tend to play those on my TV.
I'd recommend 21:9 to anyone. It's as big a chance, if not bigger than moving from 4:3 to widescreen.
I have an HTPC couch setup that I use to play on a 50" Panasonic Plasma (the best 50" model). I'll upgrade to the next year's LG OLED when they drop. It has an i5 6600k, 16Gb, and a GTX 1070.
Honestly, I don't know how I'd live without this thing. Boots up instantly, has the capabilitry to do virtually everything, strong as hell gaming machine (1080p, everything 100+ FPS). Can play emulators and has a massive library. Whenever friends comes over I have a million games I can boot up and I can do it instantly. I can also LAN with my main gaming rig, pretty much making for perfect coop gameplay.
The gaming and media capabilities of everything else is kind of a joke by comparison.
I was thinking of having a HTPC setup, with Kodi as the front end...
What Case etc are you using? curious ... looking for horizontal ones that will fit in my TV Stand's compartment.
I have mine plugged into my 60" 4k TV and I use my Xbox One and Steam Controller to play my games on it.
i play o a couch with wireless keyboard and mouse + x360 controler, many times the game is better using both at the same time
my 40' tv is about 4 feet away
sometimes i put a small kids table in front of the couch for my kid to play racing games with a racing wheel and pedals
tv + pc is also the best way to play gang beasts against 4 or 5 people in the room
Fortunately you can use whatever peripherals or seating/viewing configuration you want for both consoles and computers.
I've always found it funny when people say they don't game on PC because of the desk thing.
I built a computer to replace my PS4. It's more powerful and looks way cooler while being smaller than the PS4. It's hooked up to my 47" TV. I can use all my wireless game controllers or keyboard and mouse on a nicely-sized table - whatever I want. I can sit on the couch or in the recliner, or on the floor.
I have a computer upstairs which serves as my productivity machine - and will also destroy games with whatever control set I desire. It's hooked up to my nice 2K, high refresh rate, G-Sync monitor. I can sit on my bed or my desk chair.
TL;DR: I do what I want. You smash it out how you wanna smash it out.
My PC is used a console. Couch, controller, Steam big mode. Valve are smart + PCs have just gotten way better for gaming in recent years - standard controller support is amazing.
Not only have PCs gotten more console like, consoles have gotten horribly PC like. Giant installs, updates, patches, hacked online, "Checking Licences" blah blah blah. All filth.
PC is now the best option.
i kinda do both.
my linux box is connected to the TV and i mostly play games on that using the steam controller (which is awesome). that should be getting a big upgrade come next year. the old Phenom 2 X4 and HD 5850 are getting a bit old now. just waiting for zen and Vega to arrive before i make a choice betwen AMD/Nvidia/Intel.
my laptop sits on a box which i place on my lap when i want to play games on it. i use the mouse and keyboard for that 99% of the time (i have a 360 controller connected to it but i dont know why. F1 i think.). so thats more like a desk experience.
gotta love the PC though. couch gaming, desk gaming and, if the smach Z pans out, handheld gaming to. it can do them all very well. well ok it can do 2 of them very well, portability kinda well (you can move a gaming laptop easily. but PC gaming on the move is not so solid) and handheld gaming is to be TBA. still. incredibly flexible platform.
