[QUOTE="velocity99"]Reason i don't want a wii is exactly that; i'd feel stuck in last-gen. All i really want is brawl, i could really care less for mini-game collections and galaxy. Brawl isn't enough to justify what's essentially a gamecube with motion sensing controls for $200 more than a normal gamecube. Not to mention, it's drowning in shovelware, the multiplats are horrific, and even though it's capable of decent graphics, 90% of the games look like crap. There. I still want one, just for brawl...dotWithShoes

You must not know much about the Wii hardware and what was and was not included on the GCN. I remember playing my Mario Kart Double Dash online with my friends, Melee with my friends, being able to download & play NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, and other games on my GameCube...I do remember having to have a memory card to save my games on my gamecube.I also remember EVERY GameCube game supporting my Widescreen TV. I mean, I remember that, so it must be true that the Wii is just a GameCubewith motion sensing, faster CPU, faster GPU, more ram, larger media, internal memory, online capabilitie, and widescreen support... Nintendo added all that to the Gamecube and made it smaller.. and for only $200 more than the Cube costs.

Faster processor and GPU than the GC but less than half as good as what it standard today. But the GC had something the Wii doesn't... more than one or two good games.

Said I wouldn't listen em elsewhere, guess I'll have to here.....

Only one or two good games eh? Lets see

Boom Blox, Mario Kart Wii, SSBB, SMG, MP3:C, No More Heros, Super Paper Mario, Okami, RE4, RE:UC, Zach & Wiki, Rayman 1&2, MLB Power Pro's, the Lego games, PES 2008, BWii 2... A large collection of quality VC and WiiWare titles, as wellas the entire GCN library...

Yeah, The Wii doesn't have more than one or two good games. Thats one thing the Wii has over the GCN, it has its great games, has the great games from the NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, NEC, and every single one of those great games that you refer to on the GCN.

No. Just No. Do you realise how many average titles you listed there? Granted, the Wii has had a large impact on the industry, but that doesn't automatically mean that it has AAAA/AAA games everywhere you turn.

its closer to a little over 1 1/2 years since launch, not 2 years. there's a 5 month difference in your thinking... thats a considerable amount of time

Stevo_the_gamer

Meh - it's still getting closer to that two years mark. Close enough to me; hence why I said within almost. Doesn't make much of a difference, the Wii's library still doesn't hold much ground when compared to the other library's.

i hear what youre saying, but almost half a year is a significant amount of time nevertheless

I wonder, there are so many GC classics littered around, it's a shame that guys like me missed out on it, so yeah, the Wii is great if you want to play the classics you missed out as well as the classics that are being dismissed by those so called "hardcore gamers".

To the guy who posted why hermits and sheeps are able to coexsist in harmony, I think that they both have one thing in common that they can bash the other guys about, that they both have controllers that are much superior for shooters.

To be honest laddy, 7.0 = 70% = C- = Average. Here, at Gamespot, 7.0 to 7.9 is "Good" though. But average can replace that as well.

lol. so to you 'Good' means 'average' now

the percentages arent comparable to those of school grades.

even here at GS: an average or mediocre game is either 5.0 or 5.5

Ok. Even if it's rated 7.0 or lower, I wont count it out. A lot of games I love to death are rated poorly. I guess it can be seen as average, although the scores implies its still a good title.

Hating any console is pretty dumb. People who have a 360 would like to own a Ps3 if they got it for nothing. They would find something to enjoy. Same with the wii

For one, I wouldn't say a game which is mediocre... meaning inferior in terms of quality as average. You can do as you please, you're entitled to your own view as I am when it comes to mine. Some games which score a 7.0 are average, generic games. Fuzion Frenzy 2 for example, it's an average game - but received a 7.0 here.

True - I, myself, admit that some poorly rated games have brought me more entertainment then some of the highest ones.

Stevo_the_gamer

Granted I don't feel like joining a discussion which I was not involved in - but I have to give my two cents here, so please bare with me. :P

You listed a mere fourteen or fifteen titles by the looks of it - which is great and all, but within almost two years of launch - you can only name that many titles off the top of your head? Granted I can probably name 50+ titles for the Xbox 360 off the top of my head and god knows how many with the PC. Granted, you gave him an example and his closeminded attitude was clearly shut up and was shown in the right direction.

However, let's not hide behind the VC and backwards compatibility. This is the Wii's library we're talking about, not some rehash of old games we played many years ago. Again, considering only a mere 30% of titles score ABOVE 70% at Metacritic - that's not a lot of headroom to work with. I would rather have the console in which more than half of the games score above that.

But hey, we're all different. But the Wii's library, as a whole, is a laughing stock to me.

Those Xbox 360 titles you can name off the top of your head are great, but remember.. It had a year headstart, and more developer support than the Wii has., Mainly because no one expected the Wii to sell as much as it did(honestly, did you think it would be this far ahaead EVER?).

No. Just No. Do you realise how many average titles you listed there? Granted, the Wii has had a large impact on the industry, but that doesn't automatically mean that it has AAAA/AAA games everywhere you turn.

KOTORkicker

OK so I listed what you believe to be average titles? 13 of those are AA or higher, AA/AAA are average games now? My personal opinion is that Zack and Wiki is a AAA game, as is MP3 and SPM. Besides, scores mean little to nohing, as I have enjoy many MANY 'average' games in my life.

Again, a "Good" game which receives a 7.0 here or a 7.5 can still have average elements. Again, a good game can still be average. Example. A game can apply all the aspects of a FPS rather well(Good), and the overall score of the game can be a 7.0; however, since a lot of other FPSs establish the same good elements of FPSs, the game which received a 7.0 can still be considered average. Hell, an easy example of this is Halo 2 for Vista.

dotWithShoes

Of course, but you also have to remember that even if you compare the Xbox 360s first year's numbers compared to the Wii numbers all the way up to NOW. It was still higher than what the Wii offers. Which is sad, IMO. It was quite the shocker to everyone to see the Wii sell that much. And developer support is still weak for the Wii - thank the hardware for that.

halo 2 for Vista is such a bad example. it came out over 2 years later, no improvements, and it looked like crap. thats why it scored so low compared to its console counterpart

can you actually give me a good example of what youre talking about?

Yes, that is correct. That's why it's average when compared to other PC FPSs. Not a difficult concept to grasp. Ask any PC gamer whether or not Halo 2 Vista is an average FPS - and please, tell me what their answer is.

I highly doubt lemmings/hermits/cows are jealous of the Wii. They might be jealous of its sucess, but thats about it.

As long as they have the games they enjoy, they dont care. Hater's just hate for the sake of hating.

It still amazes me how much stock people put into a numerical value attached to a game based on the opinion of someone you probably have never met. Basicly this generation comes down to what do you want? If you know what it is that you will enjoy, then no matter what console you buy, you will enjoy it.

I see a lot of wii bashing particularly its hardware saying its last gen, utter crap, trash, etc. And i also see when there are comparison of PC and PS3/X360 these wii haters will say "I don't care." "It's expensive." "I care about games." and many many more. Oh the irony of wii haters.

They always bash the wii and yet their PS3/X360 hardware are so inferior to high end gaming PCs. What's more they use arguments or comments used by people defending the wii whenever their PS3s/X360s are compared to the superior hardware PCs.

But the Wii's library, as a whole, is a laughing stock to me.

well to be fair the 360 has been out for about a year longer than all the other next gen consoles. Also he didn't list all of the good games out for the wii.

[QUOTE="ogvampire"]

and did you notice that little word right under the number? i believe it says "good"

if those games are average, generic games, then they would have gotten less than a 7.0

you need to stop thinking that these percentages are comparable to school grades, its not like that

Stevo_the_gamer

Again, a "Good" game which receives a 7.0 here or a 7.5 can still have average elements. Again, a good game can still be average. Example. A game can apply all the aspects of a FPS rather well(Good), and the overall score of the game can be a 7.0; however, since a lot of other FPSs establish the same good elements of FPSs, the game which received a 7.0 can still be considered average. Hell, an easy example of this is Halo 2 for Vista.

You're confusing "Average" with "Generic". Generic is a measure of content, which is what you are describing. Average is a measure of quality. Halo, Twilight Princess, Gran Turismo, and Tiberium Wars were all "Generic", but you'd be crazy to call them "Average".

The Wii is even more behind the gaming PCs, I don't get how this is a good comeback at all.... I think it's closer to self-ownage. rolo107

*facepalm* Do you know what hypocracy means? He's pointing out that it's 360/PS3 fanboys bashing Wii for graphics or power are like your regular everyday Nerd bullying Trekkies for being too geeky.

it's not entirely uncommon for wii owners to have another another gaming device in addition to their wii's. shelling out $150 for something i already knew was going to be fun as opposed to the $$$ i shelled out for a PS3 as an early adopter isn't bad. The funny thing is that this 'fad' everyone seems to brand the wii with have been outselling the competition since it launched. the PS3 did beat the wii once in japan many moons ago but the wii really hasn't looked back since. Sales = winning.. I mean, is that what companies do? I think so.. Before you point your guns in my direction, better think before you post.
