Plot Overview
Two years after the Helghast assault on Vekta, the ISA is bringing the fight to the enemy's home world of Helghan. Taking the role of Sev, the battle-hardened veteran of the special forces unit known as the Legion, players will embark upon a mission to the planet Helghan to capture the Helghast leader, Emperor Visari, and bring the enemy's war machine to a halt. For Sev and his squad, the invasion of Helghan is just the beginning. Tasked with securing Pyrrhus, the Capital City, the team quickly discovers that the Helghast are a formidable enemy on their home planet. Not only have they adjusted to the planet's hostile conditions, they have also harnessed a source of power from the environment that can be used against the ISA. Sev and his team soon discover the fight is greater than simply addressing the enemy forces; the Legion must also learn how to handle the effects of the fierce enemy planet.
Gameplay
As we all know pretty visuals mean nothing without great gameplay, Killzone 2 looks to fuse together incredible graphics with immersive gameplay to draw the player into the Killzone universe.
Gameplay Features -
- First Person Cover System - Never attempted in an FPS before, KZ2 will feature a cover system that stays in first person all the time, making KZ2 a more tactic based shooter than a run and gun game.
- Hit Response System - Every bullet you fire in Killzone 2 will have a different impact on the world around you, and every Helghast death will be unique. Shoot a Helghast Soilder in the shoulder and it'll rock him back, he'll clutch it and cry out in agony, shoot him in the leg and he'll crumple to the floor, shoot him in the head, well the result is very satisfying :)
- Improved Gunplay - One of the main complaints from the original Killzone was that all the guns felt the same to use. In Killzone 2 this has been rectified and now every weapon has a distinctly different feel to them. Combine this with the Hit Response system and you have the perfect combination for some seriously satisfying shooting.
- Vehicle Based Combat - You're not just on your feet for this one, Tanks and other vehicles are in, making for some truely chaotic gameplay scenarious.
- Destructive Enviroments - Killzone 2 features a high level of destructivity with everything from cover from entire buildings ready to be blown to pieces.
- Chaotic Warzone Atmosphere - The developers of Killzone 2 Guerrilla Games wants to make it feel like your in the middle of a chaotic warzone, with explosions, soilders being killed and destruction all around you, Killzone 2 is striving for the 'fish out of water' feel.
Multiplayer
Online Features -
- Maximum of 32 players online, minimum of 12
- Badge ****System - (Think hybrid of TF2 and COD4) Players can choose what ****they want to be and then level up in that ****to fully unlock that ****s abilities)
Rather than adhere to a rigid character ****system, Killzone 2's online mode allows the player to mix abilities from different roles to better suit his / her preferred ****of play. Abilities are represented by badges: the primary badge defines the main role of the player character, as well as its outward appearance, while the secondary badge serves as a complementary ability that enhances the main role.
Although their player characters look different, both Helghast and ISA factions have the same set of roles and badges to choose from. Here they are, from left to right:
Rifleman:
The default multiplayer character is assigned when no primary badge is selected. A secondary badge may still be added. Riflemen can start with most weapons, except for the specialized ones.
Engineer:
Primary badge ability: Sets up an automated turret which targets the enemy.
Secondary badge ability: Repairs ammunition dispensers, mounted guns, and automated turrets.
Medic:
Primary badge ability: Revives downed team mates.
Secondary badge ability: Throws a health pack, which can be picked up by other players.
Scout:
Primary badge ability: Uses a cloaking suit to become near-invisible.
Secondary badge ability: Tags all on-screen enemy players with a hidden marker, which broadcasts their coordinates to team mates.
Assault:
Primary badge ability: Dons heavy armour twice as strong as normal.
Secondary badge ability: Temporarily boosts running speed.
Tactician:
Primary badge ability: Throws a coloured smoke grenade, which serves as a spawn point.
Secondary badge ability: Requests air support from a sentry bot which targets the enemy.
Saboteur:
Primary badge ability: Assumes the disguise of a randomly selected enemy player.
Secondary badge ability: Throws a sticky, proximity-activated C-4 charge.
- Clan Valour System - Clans bet Clan Valour (the games currency) before the start of the match, winner takes all, making clan matches a lot more meaningful.
- Five game modes including Assassination, Body Count, Search & Destroy, Search & Retrieve
- Built in system for regular Clan Tournaments (a ladder supports 256 clans)
- There are currently 8 maps
- Dynamic missions: Comp controls, one round might be Body Count, next (all within same match) might be Assassination .etc
- Global dedicated servers
- You'll be able to keep track of your online stats (over 100) via Killzone.com
- KZ2 Multiplayer has been in testing globally for over a year.
