Lets wait until those games come out until you dubb them teh kings. There are a lot of promising games from other companies if you were to look at it that way.

SEGA (as a publisher) for me, which is surprising, considering I was a Nintendo fanboy back in the days. Senjou no Valkyria, 428, Imabikisou, Furai no Shiren, Ryuu Ga Gotoku Kenzan and 3 and Virtua Fighter. I'm probably missing a lot of other games.

umm no to Imsoniac. Capcom created two new great franchises, and one more is on the way while deleviring on their other franchises as well. Insoniac have not done anything special, but i do respect what they did with Resistance as a franchise. I don't thing any other company comes close to what Capcom has been doing this gen.

I'd say Valve (I'm counting back to 2006)

-Episode 1

-Episode 2

-Team Fortress 2

-Portal

-Left 4 Dead

All of these games are at least 87's compared at metacritic. If we added Steam into the equation now...

Hasn't Capcom created 3 fanchises this gen?

Dead Rising
Lost planet
Zack and wiki

Then there is The Void which could turn into a franchise.

Nintendo may not have made your preferred console, but you have to admit the first party games are wicked awesome. Galaxy, Corruption, Brawl, Super Paper Mario, New Super Mario Bros, Super Mario 64, Wario Ware Smooth Moves, Pokemond Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, etc.

I'm with you. Capcom is good, but their games always feel odd to me. And i thought Dead Rising was very overrated. Killing slow dumb zombies gets old after zombie 25,000.

That howver was developed by Iron Lore Entertainment, and a pretty weak expansion if you ask me, compared to the previous ones by Relic.

Dead Rising and Lost Planet definately do not need sequels. I have a feeling Capcom is gonna go the way of Activision with these two franchises and run them into the groud until everyone is sick of them.

Dark Void is not a Capcom game :| they are only publishing it. Ever heard of the company Airtight Games? They only made on of the best xbox games and deserve to be mentioned for their game.

Sony's games so far (developed by their studios and not including their other pwned IPs developed by second/third parties like Insomniac and Media Molecule) -

  • Killzone 2
  • Uncharted Drake's Fortune
  • Warhawk
  • Motorstorm 2
  • Wipeout HD
  • Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
  • MLB The Show series
  • Hot Shots Golf
  • Siren BloodCurse
  • Singstar , Buzz

There might be a few other ones from their owned studios that are good , but I'm not sure if Sony owns the studios or not that made them.

I think they would hold up very well to Street Fighter IV , RE5 , DMC4 , Lost Planet , Dead Rising , Zak and Wiki (unless there are others you didn't list). They have Uncharted 2 , God or War III , and M.A.G. coming from internals later this year.

It would be interesting to see other companies internally developed games.

If you dont think one of the most original and fun new IPs of this gen (Dead Rising) doesnt deserve a sequel, then:roll:

Lost Planet, was fun too, despite the hate, and Capcom look to have done an amazing job on the sequel.

Overall in terms of quality, diversity and interest, I'd give it to Capcom as well. Second would probably be Nintendo and Sony in a tie though I'm edging more toward Nintendo. Its close though.

Naughty Dog, Insomniac, GG, media molecules. Those are the developers and deserve to be mentioned. Sony is the publisher of them.

Then I guess it won't for Nintendo either as Ninteno has a lot of small inhouse studios that works within Nintendo that makes the games they release.

The same can be said for valve. Is Left 4 dead not a Valve developed game because their inhouse dev Turtle Rock did it?

If you want to view it that way, you can view the internal studios as NOT capcom because those titles weren't made by one studio. And I'm sure they different names.

So by that logic sony counts.

Myself personally I view this question as SOLE dev. As in one studio doing the work and Valve and Insomniac would be at the forefront because they have released a bunch and its been all gold.

The difference is that if smaller developer studios are the ones developing games like Resident Evil, Dead Rising, etc they are all doing it under the name Capcom. Unlike the Sony studios.

I don't care if Sony owned them, that isn't what this thread is about. The thread is about developers and unless Insomniac, GG, Naughty Dog, Media Molecule etc changed their name to Sony, then Sony did not develop them.

I view the question as I stated above I will admit that Capcom has released some good stuff but I think its silly to say the difference in name matters, Because for the most part all the first party stuff Sony devs. have come out with is awesome. They are making a game for SCEA they are all under SCEA, or SCEE, or SCEJ, SCEI. So thats all in the name of SONY.

That doesn't change the fact that they are the same.

Sony owns them 100% and Capcom owns them 100%. Why would Sony not count as a developer?

Do you agree that Left 4 dead is not a Valve game then?

I question whether you truly care because it's one big company with a lot of devs making it unfair, or solely if it's because it's sony, I mean there wer numerous people claiming Nintendo, but you didn't seem to care ;)

Okay but who developed Ratchet and Clank?

Who developed Uncharted

Who developed Killzone 2

Sony is not the developed, they are the publisher.

Microsoft did not develop Banjo Kazooie

Microsoft did not develop Alan Wake

Microsoft did not develop Halo 3

Saying Sony developed those titles will only be possible in the vague terms of Sony owns the company so Sony developed them.

Insomniac (published by Sony , IP owned by Sony , and assisted in development) , Sony (Naughty Dog studio) , Sony (GG studio) , Microsoft (Rare studio) , etc.

I'd say Valve (I'm counting back to 2006)

-Episode 1

-Episode 2

-Team Fortress 2

-Portal

-Left 4 Dead

All of these games are at least 87's compared at metacritic. If we added Steam into the equation now...

Whiteblade999
I kinda agree, they not only released the episodes, but made a awesome puzzle game(portal), and one of the best multiplayer games this generation(TF2) + L4D, and not to mention the free TF 2 updates :)

A lot of people are saying CAPCOM or SONY. These are'nt developers. They are publishers with in house development studios. If you are going to praise them then praise Team Dead Rising, Team DMC, Naughty Dog, or Evolution Studios. I would have to give it to Kojima Productions. They only made one game but that game turned out to be one of the greatest audiovisual experiences in the history of gaming. A game that was a worthy entry in one of if not the best gaming series of all time. It got a freaking 10 while we were still wading through the fallout of GTAIV. And the support with the MGO patchs (it needs a lot of them, trust me), and a lot of DLC, much of it free, with the EXTRAS options like integral podcasts have set them apart in my eyes. Depending on what they actually developed, Valve and Insomniac Games are deadlocked (no pun intended) for number 2 in my eyes.

Going by this logic, (come on man, you know hat everyone is talking about) how could it not be treasure? They have developed a buch of high quality games that have been praised by the media and gamers (however few of them there are). You're willing to give it to a dev with one game?

Valve is also a publisher.
