FF12 was better, and had a much better combat system.
It tried to change things up in a good way, and succeeded.

I hated Tidus his annoying ass...............Everybody else was cool though specially Lulu But i also enjoyed X-2 and 13. X-2 was a GREAT game i dont care what ANYBODY says. The battle system was epic.
I always felt X was overrated it was good but not that good.

Nope I disagree. I enjoyed 12 and 13 more. Also I couldint stand the very very very forced romancein x. God did I hate it.

Did you play FF8? The romance in that game was horribly done, not to mention the game sucked.
I also disagree with that i love 8... lol it seems i love the FF games that most FF fans dislike.I thought the whole garden thing was cool. Not to mention i think FF8 has one of if not the best intro in FF history.
FFX is one of my favorite RPGs. I mean no game I've played this gen gives me memories like this game did. Not even Uncharted 2 (I will have good memories of that game though). Maybe Mass Effect 2 will or Dragon Age, once I actually play through DA. But playing through FFX truly felt like I was going on a journey. You learned about the world you were taking part in and the different people. The story was great, combat was good (quick and strategic) and the extra harder bosses in the monster arena were challenging. The later bosses in the main story were also challenging if you didn't use a guide (damn you Seymour and Lady Yunalesca!). I can to this date, remember the specific tracks for pretty much every area of this game and every big event that took place. That's something that I cannot do with FFXIII.

A lot of people seem to have forgotten about, or more likely never played Final Fantasy 12.
12 was amazing, had really great graphics for the time and the PS2, had the best battle system ever made for a Final Fantasy, and the most content ever put into one Final Fantasy game. The game world was huge, the monsters imaginitive, the art direction was great. The hunts and side quests, the dozens and dozens of hours of bonus content and world maps to explore.. Final Fantasy 12 was the king of the hill of the Final Fantasy games from a pure gameplay and content perspective.
And don't forget about the gambit system, you know the one that Bioware copied, watered down, and pasted right into Dragon Age?
I think it would be hard for any RPG fan, either a fan of JRPG's or WRPG's, to say that there wasn't at least a few things they really liked in FF12.
Derek240
Notsureifserious. FF12 is one of the worst JRPGs I've played. The character development was abysmal (which is dissapointing since I think there were some good stories to be had). Yes the game was huge and there were tons of hunts and side quests, but that was the problem. The only thing to do in the game was fight (with an extremely boring system I might add). Where's the chocobo breeding and racing? Where's the card games, opera sequences, crossdressing quests, sports games, arcades, etc etc etc that give a wonderful break to the action while adding humor in the other games? In FF12, you have to mope around in convoluted sewers and other lackluster environments. The game huge, yes, but it felt amazingly empty. It also rubbed me the wrong way that every character had exactly the same moves. Litterally no unique moves. Just lazy on square's part and makes the characters boring in combat.
The only good thing that I liked about ff12 was the main story (which was remenescent of FF tactics). I can honestly say that FF12 was the only game in the series that I've finished that I was bored almost the entire way through. It's truly the definition of trash (especially to square's standards).
Notsureifyouknowwhatyou'retalkingabout. Character Developement abysmal? Really...
Maybe you were in a bad mood when you played the game, because compared to other FF games, I don't see what's lacking in 12 (besides the music), and really, you don't need crossdressing quests.
The story was great... VA, I'll give you that, but they improved in the other games. FFX was the first FF on the PS2.In terms of gameplay, music and world design? Sure. In terms of voice acting, character design (other than Auron and Jecht) and story? Hell no.
foxhound_fox
I agree.
FFX was a damn great game, and is my third favorite FF (behind VI and VII). No FF afterwards was able to match up with FFX, or most other FF's previous for that matter.
The closest one to for me was actually FFXIII. The combat system in XIII was great and the production values were superb, from visuals to music. Had there been some more content, a GOOD weapon upgrade system, and had Square taken care of the flaws in XIII's story, the game would have been a masterpiece. But overall XIII is still a pretty good game.
Otherwise, FFX-2 was awful, I have no opinion on XI or XIV since I don't play MMO's, and XII was decent, but still a disappointment to me.
FFXIII could have used a completely story. I expected them to take what they did with FFX and push it further taking advantage of hardware, but they missed that opportunity. Instead FFXIII was missing a lot of great things that FFX did have and that result in not a BAD game, but a disappointing one..

What's so great about 8? The junction system is stupid, the plot is stupid, the characters are lame (people like to say Cloud is emo, but Squall is not? lmao), the romance is poorly developed, at least the graphics and music is good I guess....
If anyones ever seen SpoonyOnes review of that game on youtube, he's pretty much correct about everything...
i kinda agree, the game just sucked you in into its world. FF11 was great as well played that for a couple of years. FF12 was just bland... idk why i didnt like. 13 well... its ok i put it on the same level of 12. For 14 it has potential, but needs a hell of a lot of work to make it shine.
I agree. FFXII was awful. I didn't like it at all. Haven't played FFXIII yet. FFX is one of the greatest games of all time.
lild1425
I still say that FF XII is NOT a Final Fantasy game, and I probably would've enjoyed it much more if it was released as Vagrant Story 2 (for FF, the battle system is garbage).
I WILL say that X had the single best battle system of any FF game.
I also disagree with that i love 8... lol it seems i love the FF games that most FF fans dislike.[QUOTE="vincent380"]

Crisis Core was actually 'AMAZING' imo. So I'll have to disagree.Ringx55
Amen to that. The music, graphics and story were top notch though the gameplay could have been improved a bit more (it's still great for a handheld game).

I like 10 but I can see how some people can hate it. 8 was just bad...
I disagree. I found FFXII to be a magnificent game. One thing I really enjoyed about FFXII is the vast amount of things to do. There's multiple side quests and hunts, places to explore and filling out your pirate den or w/e it was called. The battle system was fresh and very fun, especially once you sped up the battle speed.
FFX is overrated, imo. It's okay but not amazing. The dialogue isn't that good, battle system is average, sphere grid is boring, blitzball sucks, the main character is annoying, and it has a ridiculous encounter rate.
Totally agree. I actually played X the other day it was miles ahead in the fun factor than any other Final fantasy released after it. SHAME on you Square enix I enjoyed there games alot more when they were still considered Squaresoft..... TSK TSKbushidotu
Ah the days of Squaresoft :)
A lot of useless arguments here.
FFVII had romance.
FFVIII had even more romance
FFIX had romance.
FFX was romance.
Did people not play these games above? ''Emo filth'' or ''romantic crap'' is present in all of these.
Heck, even FFXII begins with the death of a lover/husband. Romance is here to stay!

I highly disagree, I find FFX to be very overrated. Outside of the sphere grid, Lulu, Aaron and the soundtrack the game was average at best. As for FFXII it wasn't a bad game considering all the crap it went through during development, Vaan, Penelo. FFIX was the last great FF title to grace the franchise (with FFX-2 having a great battle system but mediocre when it comes to everything else, FFXIII..well it had great graphics). I take back my statement the last amazing FF to come out was Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lions (FF Tactics remake)

TWEWY was pretty good although (not as great as people make it out to be, but really good). As for Crisis Core that game is a joke except when it came to the graphics.[QUOTE="Locutus_Picard"]

It has cooties?Disagreed....XII was an amazing game. The combat was more dynamic, there were more places to explore, and the writing was extremely sharp...rare for a FF.Lethalhazard
1) awesome avatar
2) Bland characters (except for Baltasar or whatever his name was), Vaan made Tidus look like a epic hero of pure masculinity, and an uninteresting story. Those are the reasons why I didn't like XII.
While you have a point, but the awkwardly delivered dialogue in FFX make it hard to get back into now... Though it is still a great game once you adjust. For me the last amazing one was Crisis Core. FF13 would have been amazing if it wasn't for the ridiculously convoluted storyline and the lack of set pieces/minigames. I don't want to watch something epic happen in a pretty cutscene. I want to do it myself, y'know? All the other FF's had awesome, interactive moments like when you escape from the Shinra Headquarters in FF7. FF13 had none of that. It was too much like a film.

I highly disagree more, outside SG, Soundtracks, Lulu and Aaron is the battle system, sidequests, story and the other charcters.
Story: One of the best, emotional, surprising and intresting, a journey to kill the massive Sin, what else do you want?
battle system: the same old turn based, it is showing its age now, but for a 2001, it was the best around, of course I would rather play with FFX-2 battle system , but FFX had a great battle system.
Side Quests: Blitzball kept hooked for I dun know how long, The battle arena gurantees hundreds of gameplay ours, the ultimate weapons quests were all great, some of them were annoying but I enjoyed repeating most of them.
Other characters: all were great except Riko and Waka, the voice acting was good, I won't say great, but it was their first since the series beginning.
Overall: One of the best RPGs ever.

THe whole thing with Tidus father and Sin was interesting but the cast of characters made me not want to give a damn. As for the CTB system used in FFX I can think of other RPGs that used turn based system that were better (that came out during that time) I can't even consider it one of the best RPGs. I can think of so many titles that are better.[QUOTE="jasonharris48"]

And I'm pretty sure most people would say that blitzball is garbage. The idea of a turn-based sport is pretty dopey. Why not just make it real-time?

That doesn't mean that there can't be real-time Blitzball. The sport looks so cool in the CG sequences, then you play it and it turns out to b this slow wonky turn-based sport. Making it real-time would have helped it live up to the CG sequences a bit more.
I agree that the design was unique and consistent, if you mean uniquely and consistently lazy. And I mean lazy in the way that I would call FFXIII's design lazy, in which the outside-of-gameplay combat involves moving straight forward through linear environments. FFX is pretty much the precursor FXIII in terms of design. That should speak for itself.
Instead of making a non-lnear fleshed-out gameplay environment if which there was interesting things to do and lots of stuff to see, they opted for the "on-rails" RPG experience. If you want to now a game that's the anti-thesis of lazy in the design department, look at Pokemon. It may have pretty lazy combat, but the world is so non-linear and there is so much stuff to see and explore.
