How does it compare to ICO and SOTC? Is it a big improvement or just more of the same with nice graphics? I love ICO, but thought SOTC was overrated.

There hasn't been a masterpiece since the PS2 days.
Super Mario Galaxy 2.

@n64dd:
Do explain N64 inferior to NES/SNES but superior to GC/Wii/WiiU and possibly Switch?
You just went in left field and I don't think anybody is following what you're saying here.
Just explain how I'm inaccurate.

Well? Go on. List your gen 6 masterpiece titles here.
I understand that it's all subjective, but lets see it.
I'd like to see what you consider a masterpiece if SMG2 is in "Ha Ha" territory. A game that is far away at the top of its genre. A game that is so incredibly strong in its level design and variety that it makes the majority of game designers out there look like a collection of interns.
I also have a couple of gen 6 games that I consider masterpiece territory, but looking to see where you stand.

@n64dd: I've put about 2 1/2 hours into it now, I like the game itself but the HORRIBLE controls mixed with the performance is really ruining this game for me...
I don't care how review scores come to be, this level of sloppiness is inexcusable, poor controls mixed with bad performance is a nightmare, that alone should have dropped any review by at least two points.
So far, this is very much a 7-8/10 conceptual game, however with glaring problems that can't be overlooked and are so damning to the gameplay itself, this is 5-6/10 territory...
Not baffling at all. It's not an X1 game where GS nitpicks every little thing to give the lowest score in stark contrast to a non X1 game where they overlook or downplay any flaws in order to give it a high numerical score.
Don't cry lem, I'm sure GS is sorry and will work on your concerns shortly.
I'm sitting here on pc, and dont consider myself some master race asshole. It is hilarious in SW, reading some of the sand in my asshole bitching and moaning, and to me, it seems to be coming from Microsoft guys more for some reason. Last Guardian does not really look like my type of game, maybe it is, who knows, but I know it looks unique. I have not seen anything on the Xbox One aside from a game here, a game there that is not the same old, same old rehash.
The bitching is hilarious, though. As if Gamespot is a surrogate for Sony, in some master plan.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you're a microsoft guy yourself if you're on pc.
As for the game, what is frustrating for xbox users is that sony exclusives always get such high ratings just because most reviewers prefer these type of games. I have played shadow of the colossus and I can understand the high rating, it was something special, I haven't played the last guardian, nor did I play quantum break for that matter but it is kinda obvious the reviewer prefers sony exclusives. The last guardian scores higher than average on on this site, and quantum break lower than average.
Uncharted 4 and the witcher 3 get's a 10/10 on this site and is highly praised in gaming community, yet the hardcore scene doesn't even bother with these games, maybe the witcher 3, but not with the enthousiasm like for instance a elder scrolls game and elder scrolls games never get tens.
It seems like popular gaming culture prefer high quality animation and cutscenes . I could never spend my time playing single player games that don't have the interactivity of a bethesda title tbh.

Quantum Break was just not very good, and The Last Guardian looks cool and unique. I thought Quantum Break took a chance, mixing full tv episodes in with a game, but in the end it was an interactive tv show, not much of a third person shooter. That is why it got mixed reviews. I doubt partisanship from reviewers, whom have all the consoles themselves, is contributing to Microsoft's games getting low scores. I think it is their Big business, deadline heavy outlook towards gaming, like the movie industry is what is making their first party games lack creativity or take chances. I will not pretend as if Sony has all of it's shit together, but damn, their first party stuff at least looks different.
And yeah, EVERYONE was playing Witcher until a few months ago with Blood and Wine. I dont know where you were, but if you even look on youtube, people are still losing their shit over stuff they found, lore, mods, etc etc.
I've never played it, but there's reports that on the OG PS4 it drops to 10fps. And it has clunky controls and a shit camera. If all that's true, it's not a masterpiece.
All of that descibes Golden eye 64 and many other games consdered masterpieces. Just sayin
A flawed masterpiece. After credits scene had me shedding tears. The game is an emotional rollercoaster especially in its second half. I'm getting goosebumps as I write this. Fumito ueda you genius motherfucker I never doubted you and you have proven every doubter wrong.
I have so much respect towards this man and his vision. Such relationship between two game characters can only be conveyed in such manner and excellence by ueda and his team. The soundtrack alone in the end was amazing, I am flabbergasted by such experience. Thank you to all those who made it possible for this game to exist.
Looking forward to picking it up when I finally get a PS4 someday
This. The backlog is getting enormous...
@dynamitecop: Well this is CowSpot, where Sony exclusives are automatically rounded up by a point and MS and Ninty games get rounded down a point.
I just played some of it. Wife got it for me. It's good. I really don't understand why the bash of controls when Zelda titles suffer from the same(or even worse) yet no one says anything about that. I do have issues with the frame rate. I couldn't continue seeing this dip so low but it still looks amazing.
I really hope they put their shit together and fix the frame rate to an at least 30fps rate
Good to hear. But I'm by no means ready to rush out and get it at the moment since I rarely touch my PS4. Might pick it up when Persona 5 comes out because that's the only must I'm totally set on buying day one. Then again Nioh does have my attention too, maybe I'd pick up both if The Last Guardian sees a modest price drop by then. Hopefully by then too any minor annoyances or glitches are ironed out with updates.
Probably best I wait until Persona 5 comes out to pick up The Last Guardian. February would probably be best to just pick up Nioh and Nier Automata.
The 15-20 mins of gameplay I watched looked extremely linear. God, it really is pathetic how far behind Japanese devs are.
It is linear, but not in a bad way. It is very much like an ICO 2. The game is about the journey that you and your companion go on trying to escape. Each area presents its own challenges and you must explore and observe your surroundings and work together to overcome the challenges/puzzles.
@GhoX: pretty funny stuff, I still want to play it but this video kind of confirms my reason for waiting, even the worse reviews on it talk about how brilliant the game can be at times but how frustrating it can be at others and more coming down to just the functionality of the gameplay, not enough to turn me off from playing but for something that could potentially frustrate me greatly I'm going to wait for price drops just so I don't feel burned on the value of it

Sounds like you need a Pro to play it, which is unfortunate.

So basically zero replay value and $60 for a 10 hour game.
Games been out for 5 minutes. Gamers have a very bad tendency to scream "best thing ever" as if a reflex hammer has been tapped on their knee.

I don't know who the "hardcore" scene is, but TES games don't deserve 10s in my book, and I don't think the oldschool cRPG snobs - who I guess would be the "hardest coreiest" of the rpg enthusiasts - would rate Skyrim anywhere remotely close to a 10. Knock TW3 if you must, but Skyrim is so shallow! TES has been on a steady decline since Morrowind IMO - I hope 6 returns to earlier, deeper roots
It's no masterpiece, but the game is awesome for sure. I enjoy the art style, love the Trico animations, love the puzzles. It's a GAME and plays like one and that is what I ask for. Well worth the wait.
The technical issues regarding performance are not bothersome for me at all playing it in 4K on my PS Pro. Though I agree, that the controls suck, but oh well. Nothing is ever perfect.
There hasn't been a masterpiece since the PS2 days.

Totally Agree. Also, I don't think TES6 will return to form. It seems all that all of the big western RPG franchises have been on a decline for more casualization (is that even a word :P). Skyrim, aside from all the praise it got, was pretty gutted compared to Oblivion & Morrowind. I also was extremely disappointed with the gameplay of Dragon Age Inquisition, the combat was extremely meh after a short time. That being said, I'm worried about Mass Effect Andromeda..., it looks like it's adopting most of the game design/gameplay elements from DA:I.
I just hope I'm worng.

I like Skyrim more than morrowind (mainly because morrowinds combat was atrocious). I've put close to 200 hours into morrowind and almost 400 into skyrim.
The world is amazing. Graphics are amazing. Trico is so lovable. The weight of your characters movement is great.
I'd say it's closer to ICO than it is SOC, but definitely has both influences.
If you don't have a PS4 this game is worth the price of admission.
It also runs very poorly.
Runs absolutely fine for me, did you buy it?
Yes, also we all know that's not true, it's pretty common knowledge that this game chugs and runs poorly.
Runs great on ps4 pro. How far are you?
Is it me or does it feel like everyone is questioning if this game really plays a certain game? The question feels so forced. Love it how people think their opinion is a fact and if someoen disagrees that they don't own the game.
For me I didn't play it yet, but if it is like ICO or SOC then it's totaly not my type of games. I don't have the patience for them.

A lot of people have never played the game and like to put their opinion forth. Dynamite has done this on a few occasions.

What about Oblivion? Oblivion was my intro to the 360 PS3 era, and it was incredible. Skyrim felt kind of like a cardboard cutout in comparison. None of the personality Oblivion had.

Trico is what makes the game worthwhile. Its animation is so life-like. There's just a special camaraderie present that you don't see in many games.
my big issue with this game is that I far preferred SOTC than Ico. It's pretty clear that this game is a spiritual sequel to Ico
