While many people were understandably disappointed by last week’s PlayStation Experience’s severe lack of long-awaited game, The Last Guardian, some recent news and developments surrounding the game’s progress have arisen, much to the delight of gamers around the world.
In a recent issue of Dengeki PlayStation, a Japanese gaming magazine, The Last Guardian‘s director – Fumito Ueda – revealed that the game is making progress, albeit under “completely new conditions.”
Ueda said the following in addition to the above information:
“Talks with Sony Computer Entertainment on The Last Guardian have been ironed out, and we’re making progress under completely new conditions. I’m also working on some other things that I’ll hopefully be able to show in time if progress is smooth.”
As for what Ueda meant when he said “completely new conditions,” it’s entirely possible that he was referring to The Last Guardian – which was previously only meant to be a last-generation console game – switching development from PS3 to PS4.
While The Last Guardian‘s progress may indeed be slow, gamers are sure to appreciate the fact that some light has been shed in regards to the game’s development cycle, which, in all honesty, has been quite rocky. With the game’s original announcement 5 years ago – in 2009 – and the subsequent lack of appearances at prominent game shows, it is undoubtedly good that Ueda has decided to reveal that The Last Guardian is indeed making progress.
What are your thoughts on this development regarding The Last Guardian? Are you happy to hear that the game is making progress and may be in development for the PS4? Why or why not?
Also, do you think that, after all these years, some gamers have “given” up on the possibility of the game’s release?
Back from the dead, it's still happening.
