1% higher is nothing to care or flex about.

Also I doubt TLOU 2 will have better overall sales than UC4 or TLOU, both whom passed over 15 million in sales and with TLOU1 reaching over 20 million in sales. TLOU2 could have a grand 5 million in sales it's first year but a total of 12 million in sales 6 years from now which would be around a 40% decrease in sales

@wervenom: What I am saying is that the outrage is less than what was perceived.

Leading up to the release you had all this vitriol for the game--the same-sex relationships, the story leaks, etc--and then when it comes out it sells like crazy.

Of course it will sell initially. Let's see if it has any legs. I suspect it won't.

I was scared when I saw the user reviews, but after playing the game I thought it was amazing. Definitely not better than the first game, however it is still worth playing.

@KBFloYd: 1% higher kind of feels like less. Given the fact that the PlayStation has sold a boatload of consoles since Uncharted 4 came out in 4 years ago.

I don’t like that stupid agenda they seem to be forcing, BUT I’m still buying the game for everything else.

The Last of Us Part 2 is now PlayStation 4’s fastest selling exclusive ever and 2020’s fastest selling game so far beating Animal Crossing by 40%. Only physical copies have been counted.

@wervenom:

The only people who review bombed the game were never interested in the first place. And that's why their boycott failed. All the time they wasted bashing the game just made more people curious about it.

That is 1% more without actually accounting digital sales,so yeah it should be much higher than UC4.

You people dont read physical sales only actually beat all of uncharted 4 sales by 1% that number doesnt include digital sales which we know have sky rocket since covid started,so factor in digital sales it would be way over UC.

You people need to read is on the first page.

Wow the fascists really managed to cancel this game. I wasn't thinking they were going to achieve it but I got to give it to them.

95 in metacritic and record sales. This might be the end of Naugty Dog.

@tormentos: I did read it. I'm not doubting that it sold more digital copies than UC4. Just that 1% more by physical sales isn't impressive. Its not like the physical copy of the disc is hard to find so it's obviously stocked up.

So how's the game tormy, what's your opinion on it from your playthrough???

C'mon tormy why are you dodging me (you've posted a couple of times since the above post) so again what's your opinion on the game, as the biggest cow here you should have bought it and finished it by now.

Don't tell you haven't bought the game, what's wrong are you homophobic/don't own a PooS4 or both lol.

While I'm sure it's a phenomenal game, you've got to wonder how hard it would really be for a digital store owner to arrange sales records for *any* of its own products.

On an unrelated note, has anyone seen Unsubscribe yet? Box office topper apparently.

@SecretPolice:

Poor Abby never stood a chance after the leaks came out. She was basically Joel2.0. (who was basically the bad guy in Last of Us 1) I don't know if I would've liked him if I knew ahead of time that he was going to doom humanity and basically make his entire adventure meaningless.

The biggest issue I have with Abby is that she's got no redeeming qualities to her personality. She's just all around a disgusting human being. At least Joel was relatable.

Congrats to Naughty Dog. They're known for good games with great polish. I'm not surprised about smashing the sales record.

This is the first ND game I'm sitting out since the first Uncharted released. The first was simply to dark and depressing for me. The second looks to be even more so. Thus, I passed.

What sucks is all the hate on this game will make people say naughty dog sucks now. even though they been giving us great games sense ps2. one game bad game = all the games are bad now. it's how this world thinks.

@gifford38: We don't have to comply with the mob mentality. We all know that Naughty Dog as well as almost every game company has good games they've created... even EA.

Some groups push their hate to gain power of mindset over others. I will tell you, it's ok to have a differing opinion. In fact, especially now, and especially outside of gaming, it's time to push back on the mob.

Be a free thinker.

@gifford38: dude, whatever - devs should make the games they want to make. If this game turns NathanDrakeSwag off ND so be it. He'll find something else to play.

ND today isn't the same ND from the PS2 days. There's no point treating them as such. For some people that works, and for others that doesn't. I'd rather they follow their creative leanings than listen to any of us - the industry is booming and there's something for everyone. When one dev goes one way another rises to fill the niche they used to occupy anyway. Way better than a world of monotone game standards where everything has been sanitized and morphed to one type of gaming taste

For perspective:

Chart-Track reported that sales of the physical release of No Man's Sky in the United Kingdom during the first week was the second-largest PlayStation 4 launch title published by Sony, following Uncharted 4, and the fifth highest across all publishers and Sony formats.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Man%27s_Sky#Reception

Remember how that release went?

Again, first week UK physical sales. I'm not suggesting anything about the quality of the game itself, nor denying the figures... just sharing an interesting tidbit is all.

This game sold extremely well if this info only includes physical sales.

Digital sales accounted for 66% of full game software in Q4 for PlayStation.

@mrbojangles25: Yea what I'm saying is the vast majority of people that hate the game do not hate it for those reasons. They hate it for story decisions and the reality is most people had no clue about the leaks. They saw the commercial's and had an idea of what the game was going to be and it did not meet those expectations.

I think a large portion of people that are review bombing it have played the game and are just angry. I have seen Playstation shill channels on YouTube who hate the game because of the story. Angry Joe ( say what you want about him) is not a fanboy or an alt right troll. He seems to hate it as well.

So is a 0 justified? No( not unless it's a buggy mess) but sometimes when people are so upset they will go to the extremes and I think a large portion of the fanbase is angry about the game. I also wouldn't praise sales unless it pulls a GoW or Spiderman. Which are rare exclusives that stayed in the top 10 month after month.

japan doesnt care about the last of us. and sony exclusives die about a month or 2 after launch.

it seems the more people bitch and make a big deal out of a game the more it sells. lol gamers are the biggest hypocrites of the human race.

I don't think that's true. There are two types of people not interested in this game.

A). Those who hate story driven games. Who are most likely not sitting on Twitter and diving into the leaks.

B). Avid Playstation haters. Which are responsible for review bombing every PS exclusive this generation.

The like to dislike ratio is to high for it to be just those groups of people. And some of the low scores are accompanied by a three paragraph review. You usually only write that when you passionately hate something and you usually only passionately hate a game if you spent your hard earned cash and it disappointed you. Yes some are baseless review bombs but I so think a large portion of the fanbase hated this game. Especially fans of Joel.

The reality is that the vocal minority remained a minority. All the shit a posting of there would be a reckoning and Naughty Dog and Sony would learn blah blah was nothing but, the loud minority. Reminds me of the shitfest gamergate that crashed and burned. The fact of the reality is the demographic of game creators are changing and the content are going to reflect this change. Time to put the mental gymnastics on the shelf and move on.

Lol again at this point it's not a vocal minority. I also am not sure why people are celebrating sales based off preorders. Most people are completely ignorant to the leaks. Let's see how it does in July before you take a victory lap. If they were so confident in their product they wouldn't have marketed the game the way they did.

A large portion of the review bombs are basically 0/10s that go into extremely little detail for the reason why. Yeah, I'm sure some were genuinely disappointed buyers but how the hell do you explain the bizarre 18,000 plus reviews in just HOURS after it released? And in that time frame, the user review score in Metacritic was almost a zero average. That's pretty goddamm suspicious! You telling me all those people thought the exact same thing like as if they were a hive mind? It's review bombing. And now, they're facing reverse-review bombing too. Now the score is teetering around a 4.

Either way, those people are just wasting their time. Trying to give products negative press never works out and in most cases, it only draws more attention to the product. It didn't seem to effect sales neither.

@nepu7supastar7: Oh I'm not denying it had review bombs. I'm also not denying that regardless of how terrible the writing is( and yes it's pretty bad) the game doesn't deserve a 0. There was way to much effort put into the visual and sound quality and the attention to detail is absolutely insane. The gameplay is also really good if you enjoy third person action adventure stealth games. So no it doesn't deserve a 0. But regardless the story means alot to people especially fans of Naughty Dog games and they made a large portion of their fanbase angry.

If I learned anything people generally only review something if they love it or hate it. That goes for Restaurants, services, movies, games etc. This game has inspired both sides but to say that it's this loud small minority of alt right trolls or Xbox fanboys that hate the game is absolutely not true. There are lots of Playstation fans that are also angry.( I've watched their reaction as they streamed the game).

Highly anticipated sequel to a fondly regarded title, was always going to sell well. Just as TLJ did well at the box office and GOT season 8 had great viewership numbers at the time, the question is does the franchise and by extension ND come out of this better off or have they/the franchise been damaged in some way? As much as review bombing is annoying, when it's motivated by the actual content of the product there's usually a core of criticism that rings true which usually becomes evident either in the follow up product, or the complete absence of that property in peoples mind space 12 months post launch.

This us said every single time an exclusive, regardless of platform, does well. "Oh it sold well in the first few days, but give it a few weeks and it'll stop selling like hotcakes."

Then three months later when said game is still in the top ten they disappear.

Lol again at this point it's not a vocal minority. I also am not sure why people are celebrating sales based off preorders. Most people are completely ignorant to the leaks. Let's see how it does in July before you take a victory lap. If they were so confident in their product they wouldn't have marketed the game the way they did.

I am sorry that you are still in denial.

Ignoring the like to dislike ratio and user reviews everywhere and basing everything off preorder sales is living in denial. This reminds me when everyone said rise of Skywalker was a huge hit because of the first week and then it went on to do a billion dollars less then first movie of the new trilogy.

This us said every single time an exclusive, regardless of platform, does well. "Oh it sold well in the first few days, but give it a few weeks and it'll stop selling like hotcakes."

Then three months later when said game is still in the top ten they disappear.

That's not true. Not every exclusive got anywhere near this hate. And most exclusives don't remain in the top 10 for long.

@wervenom:

"If I learned anything people generally only review something if they love it or hate it."

This is true in most cases but there are others where people openly bash something once controversy spreads around it. Suddenly it's political, then you get right wingers into the fight and turn it into some phony war with liberals and the so-called Liberal Media. And thanks to the leaker, they have key information about the game and can use it to make their review bombs "believable."

If you ONLY saw the leaks and bad reviews then you're only going to get a negative opinion on the game. Because that information is only limited to key plot twists and someone else's view on the game. Their opinion becomes your opinion and then you run around with it like you got all the answers of the universe.

While SOME of those leaks were true, they don't initially tell you everything about the story. Just enough to get you pissed off. Then YouTubers who thrive on controversy can feed on that anger and get more popularity by making negative videos. Playing the actual game in its entirety fills in the blanks and there are a lot of them that these butthurt idiots don't realize.

After speaking with several of these naysayers on various comment sections, I've come to the conclusion that they still don't understand jackshit about the story. Just what they were told and what they were led to believe.

- If you were to go back in time to before Last of Us 1 released and leaked key info on the story, you can easily end up with very similar results of disgust and hate.

*Joel was supposed to take care of Ellie and make sure that she made it to her destination. Which was a makeshift hospital with doctors and researchers looking to find a cure for the zombie virus. Ellie was the best hope for a cure.

*Joel ended up stopping this from happening, slaughtered everyone in his way and basically obliterated the Fireflies.

*What he did was a giant middle finger to the entire adventure. Suddenly, everything you did to make it that far was for nothing and basically was a giant waste of your time. But hey, at least Joel met Ellie right?

And of course, because we DIDN'T KNOW about the Last of Us 1's storyline, we were able to enjoy it free of any bias. If we did know about it then we would realize that the entire adventure is an enormous waste of time and basically Naughty Dog is just trying to sell you a run-of-the-mill story about a mourning father finding a surrogate daughter.

If we're going to blame anyone for the unwarranted hate, blame the leaks.

Bad games sell. not a big deal.

example GTA5 sold billions. and terrible game.

But most of your "preferred" games not only gets mediocre reviews, it also post mediocre sales figures as well. I mean what does your preferred games have going for them outside of your valued opinion about them?

so Doom eternal has mediocre reviews and sale? LOL!

i dont want my games to be big mainstream or else they ruined.

In comparison to most of the competition, yeah it does.
