I adamantly maintain that GTA V is the more deserving, but The Last of Us is a great game (even with its shit ending)
It was the best game this year. Tomb Raider was 2nd best(IMO). Mass Effect 3 was the best game I played this year.
Well nothing else this year even came close to The Last of Us.
insert Joel Banderas GIF
You're right, absolutely nothing in 2014 so far comes close to The Last of Us.

satisfying ending..
wut?
Made Harvesters look almost good.
wut? not every ending to a game has be a happy ending.. it fit this game perfectly
Has nothing to do with it being happy or not, if that's your first assumption by what I meant you don't see the issue many people have with the ending of the game.
@charizard1605: he's kinda right. even ign said tlou willcontinue to be the game to beat in 2014 and even 2015
***POSSIBLE TLOU SPOILERS****
Good choice. I'd be happy with this or Zelda and GTA. All 3 were worthy. As far as the ending, I liked it because it was thought provoking. It wasn't the typical ending of A) everyone dies or B) a miracle cure happens. It was about Joel being more or less selfish and putting his love for Ellie over a possible cure for mankind. It wasn't a bad ending. It was sufficient and thought-provoking
So, basically, out of the main websites GS was the only one going against the wave... I guess they were just afraid of being called PS fanboys for giving GOTY to yet another PS exclusive
Hard to argue. Great game... Pretty decent crowd to beat out this year.
Definitely makes up for what happened last year in terms of the quality of games.

True that. There were a shit-ton of great games to play last year.
Haha, wow. Now that I read what I put, I should have said 2012. 2012 was terrible. "2013 made up for 2012" is what I meant to say. Wow, I need more sleep haha
"b...bu....bu...but only GS scores matter!" LOL
This.
TLOU won most the GOTYs.
Deal with lems, sheeps and hermits.

Gamespot stands foolish amongst rest of the major review sites and industry and the oddball this year.
Instead of the megaton of high scoring games for PC, PS3, 360 etc we got a nostalgic handheld game.
Might as well get iOS and Android in the mix if we doing handheld games like Device 6, Papa Sangre etc.

You're so fucking stupid it's not even funny.
It's system wars dumbass.
And theres nothing wrong with iOS and Android gaming.
I don't game often on consoles, but The Last of Us was a gem on my PS3. Definitely deserved the win, although the ending was underwhelming.

Congrats dipshit, I never said there's anything wrong with iOS or Android gaming. I'll only entertain your stupidass notion that GameSpot "stands foolish" because they had their own collective opinion away from other sites.
Don't say "we" get a nostalgic handheld game. "We," as in the more unprejudiced, less moronic gamers got a great Zelda game. You, already quite the bastion of nonsensical anti-Nintendo garbage, got nothing because you didn't play it.
Talk about what you know g0ddy. What you don't easily bites you in the ass.

How's the ending shitty? I thought it was completely in character for Joel to do what he did. It was predictable that bad shit was gonna happen when they got to the hospital but nothing wrong with that.

I'm glad GS still has spoiler stuff:
Starting at the hospital and fighting through all of the (I forget what they are so I'll call them the Resistance) Resistance troops felt too backwards from what you were doing the rest of the game where you were either hiding from Infected or killing bandits and vagabonds - these where real people with families and were only trying to do what they believed in (Winter was my favorite part not only because it was a growing period for Ellie, Joel and the player but because you actually felt like you had just accomplished something unbelievable -- I still maintain that Winter is one of the greatest segments ever to be put into a video game, the feelings where almost too much and reuniting Joel and Ellie was sublime.) and you were slaughtering them for your own selfish reasons.
Then comes the doctor sequence where the player is presented with the illusion of choice - which is the absolute worst thing a designer can do in a video game in my mind. To put us in that position is a low-down dirty trick....because at the end of the day and no longer how long you wait the doctor is going to die, Joel is going to pick up Ellie and while leaving kill that women in the parking garage who is also only doing what she believes (trying to save humanity).
So in the end you damn humanity all for the sake of one man who can't stand to lose his daughter...again.
So to go from intriguing in the beginning to very good to damn near perfection in Winter to a slap in the face and being told 'this is the way it is'....is a shit ending.
