I adamantly maintain that GTA V is the more deserving, but The Last of Us is a great game (even with its shit ending)

How's the ending shitty? I thought it was completely in character for Joel to do what he did. It was predictable that bad shit was gonna happen when they got to the hospital but nothing wrong with that.

I'm glad GS still has spoiler stuff:

Starting at the hospital and fighting through all of the (I forget what they are so I'll call them the Resistance) Resistance troops felt too backwards from what you were doing the rest of the game where you were either hiding from Infected or killing bandits and vagabonds - these where real people with families and were only trying to do what they believed in (Winter was my favorite part not only because it was a growing period for Ellie, Joel and the player but because you actually felt like you had just accomplished something unbelievable -- I still maintain that Winter is one of the greatest segments ever to be put into a video game, the feelings where almost too much and reuniting Joel and Ellie was sublime.) and you were slaughtering them for your own selfish reasons.

Then comes the doctor sequence where the player is presented with the illusion of choice - which is the absolute worst thing a designer can do in a video game in my mind. To put us in that position is a low-down dirty trick....because at the end of the day and no longer how long you wait the doctor is going to die, Joel is going to pick up Ellie and while leaving kill that women in the parking garage who is also only doing what she believes (trying to save humanity).

So in the end you damn humanity all for the sake of one man who can't stand to lose his daughter...again.

So to go from intriguing in the beginning to very good to damn near perfection in Winter to a slap in the face and being told 'this is the way it is'....is a shit ending.

I disagree, having Joel do anything else would've been out of character. There was no way he was going to let Ellie be killed regardless of whether she was the cure. And the whole game is linear and scripted, why were you expecting anything different at the end? At the end you're supposed to see that Joel isn't really a good guy. I mean you've been shown lots of times that he's a scary dude. His brother was scared of him, he tortured and killed two people even though killing them was unnecessary, he doesn't bat an eye at killing around 100 people, etc. Oh and the second the doctor picked up the knife, I shot him in the face.

But, did it win GOTY here? No? Then it doesn't count.

satisfying ending..

wut?

Made Harvesters look almost good.

wut? not every ending to a game has be a happy ending.. it fit this game perfectly

Has nothing to do with it being happy or not, if that's your first assumption by what I meant you don't see the issue many people have with the ending of the game.

The ending is damn near perfect. What's wrong with it?

Its not that the game is linear, its that you are given the illusion of choice -- it reminded of a KOTOR choice except there was no choice.

There is no choice so why put us in predicament that makes you feel like there is some choice?

Especially in that one where the guard are beating at the door and they say you have to make an instant decision...when there is no decision to be made. And then to lie to her, setting the foundation of a relationship built upon a lie? Meaning its a relationship that is meant to fail.

The ending should've been where they have to go search for a Dr./scientist that they had heard may know of a way to do the operation without killing her. Then they set out to search for him & have struggles along the way they overcome. Then when they find him he's been killed & have to search for the data on how to perform it. They then find it & it is experimental & don't know if it can be done. They then go ahead & take the chance not knowing if it will kill her or not. They perform the surgery & she stays in an unconsious state. Joel then searches his soul & prays his heart out. Then he goes to sleep for the night & he has a sureal dream about Ellie. He wakes up & goes over to her still unconsious & holds her hand & she suddenly wakes up. The world is saved & you have a great ending.

I don't remember that "choice" with the guard, you'll have to remind me about that. That stuff never bothered me because they probably wanted to put you in Joel's shoes and actually execute the action regardless of what his decision was. I think that's more impactful than just watching a cutscene.

Why does their relationship need to succeed? Ellie probably knew within minutes of waking up an idea of what happened, my guess was that she understood what he did to an extent and although it bothered her, she let it slide because at that point they were codependent.

What do you expect, Joel is one of the most ruthless guys out there... The damn cannibals called him crazy, and he dislodges a guy's kneecap to get information and later beats a guy up with a pipe. You really expect him to go all like "Oh oh, im sorry guys, here, ill turn myself in, you guys kill the little girl and make a cure"

Though again, if you would have went through the logs in the hospital and maybe thought it through a bit, the Fireflies are incompetent idiots with an agenda. They want to get the cure for god knows what reason and will stop it at nothing, they are idiotic morons with power that don't think anything through. Ellie is immune, but instead of researching it deeply, they decide in literally a few hours to kill her to try to get the cure. Does that sound sane to you? Also Marlene in her logs admits that she is tired and just wants to get it over with.

The world of The Last of Us is almost without exception twisted and sick, and the Fireflies are no different. Joel didn't damn humanity, the Cordyceps are the least of their worries at this point. Any major populations are already well armed and prepared to deal with the infected, and the infection only really spreads either through bites or spores, and the spores are ineffective in open areas. After a few years the infected die and become spore farms, and these later die off too, if everyone just ignores them for long enough they will just vanish. The time for a cure is long over, and in any case, there is almost no way to get it to large populations since mass transport is gone and most of the major population centers are at war with each other.

There is no good or bad in the TLoU's universe anymore, people are broken and only want to survive. Everyone is just a shade of gray, but also, most aren't inherently bad either. The Cannibals for example, they seem pretty antagonistic and "bad", but they are really only trying to survive. They only really seem bad to you because "ew cannibalism", but you got to remember that they have families they are trying to feed, and food isn't easy to come by, as you found out at the start of the chapter.

All Joel did was save himself and Ellie, Joel is a deeply troubled individual and you can't expect the devs to give you choice if they are trying to portray a deep character. Joel did what Joel would do, and if you were shocked that that happened, you really weren't paying attention to the game.

Also the ending is perfect, what more do you want? You want a montage of Ellie growing up and starting a family or something? Just use your imagination and fill it out. Joel's quest is complete, after 20 years he finally saved his daughter and has a chance to live again after being practically dead since his daughter died in his arms.

Gamespot stands foolish amongst rest of the major review sites and industry and the oddball this year.

Instead of the megaton of high scoring games for PC, PS3, 360 etc we got a nostalgic handheld game.

Might as well get iOS and Android in the mix if we doing handheld games like Device 6, Papa Sangre etc.

You're so fucking stupid it's not even funny.

It's system wars dumbass.

And theres nothing wrong with iOS and Android gaming.

Congrats dipshit, I never said there's anything wrong with iOS or Android gaming. I'll only entertain your stupidass notion that GameSpot "stands foolish" because they had their own collective opinion away from other sites.

Don't say "we" get a nostalgic handheld game. "We," as in the more unprejudiced, less moronic gamers got a great Zelda game. You, already quite the bastion of nonsensical anti-Nintendo garbage, got nothing because you didn't play it.

Talk about what you know g0ddy. What you don't easily bites you in the ass.

Then make a specific point instead of slagging off dumbass.
Obviously your butthurt so lets break it down for your childish mind to take in.

Number of GOTY's goes against Gamespots choice.

'We' as in here in 'Gamespot'. Does this look like an IGN forum?
'Nostalgic' as it clearly is and is getting praised for it as mentioned by a lot of reviews. For example
"A Link Between Worlds is a wondrous whirlpool of nostalgia"

I've most likely played more Nintendo games than you think. Typical of sheep, attack the messenger.

Go and make another 3DS poll.

Before you call someone a dumbass, learn the proper way to use "you're" and "your."

Who cares if it didn't win here. This "only counts on gamespot" mentality makes this place hard to be taken serious. Especially since it's been proven that high gamespot reviews are mostly due to marketing dollars. Reviews here are about as relevant as VG Chartz.

So The Last of US just got a 10/10 and GOTY 2013 (ahead of the likes of 10/10 GTA V) on the biggest gaming website on the planet?

I've most likely played more Nintendo games than you think. Typical of sheep, attack the messenger.

Go and make another 3DS poll.

g0ddy, not once on this site has anyone seen a post from you that is worth more "slagging off"

Before you call someone a dumbass, learn the proper way to use "you're" and "your."

And seriously, read my post again, try comprehending it, and having a normal response. Then try addressing the actual post instead of skirting around it.

Also lol at "I'VE PLAYED NINTENDO GAMES!!1!" Good job Sally, now notice we're talking about Link Between Worlds. Don't use the word "typical" ever again also. You call people who entertain your anti-Nintendo drivel sheep because you can't post anything else worth a damn. That's so sad man.

lol. Grammar police.

Correcting peoples sentences on the internet.

That's Sad. This ain't an effing publication or article.

Like I said,

more GOTY's than Gamespots Choice

. Thats a fact. I've replied to your 'issues' and your bringing more on...

Go and take your hatred elsewhere kid.

We talking about TLOU here and number of GOTY's over GS nostalgic choice.

Still skirting around.

Don't worry g0ddy, I'll bookmark this for future reference for when other numerous other people "slag off" on you, maybe you can call them out on their idiocy as well by knowing basic first grade grammar.

Not worried about anything, clearly your the one with issues here blabadon.

Like I said, typical of sheep to attack the messenger, thats a standard. Bookmark if it helps you to sleep at night.

This isn't exactly a professional piece of article or publication I am writing, its a forum, you can take this a lot more seriously.
But when your talking informal, you are bound to make some errors.
There are people from different countries here, have some respect to those who are grammar boy.

On topic, Scratch another one for TLOU ;)

Who cares if it didn't win here. This "only counts on gamespot" mentality makes this place hard to be taken serious. Especially since it's been proven that high gamespot reviews are mostly due to marketing dollars. Reviews here are about as relevant as VG Chartz.

Well then don't come to discuss on the gamespot system wars forum. I just follow the rules.
